fine, here's a real anders.
I can truly say that if that was Anders real morph in this game that I would have NO trouble killing him at the end.

if you're goofy, so am i. my poor xbox harddrive is full to bursting with fifteen billion save files that are pretty much just variations on"Save 2XX - Darktown" or "Save 2XX - Anders' Clinic" because i just want to have the files ~ready so i can hypothetically play through nicer choices because i am the biggest baby.Leah.C wrote...
Oh, what an awful way to go to bed.
Sometimes they make it so damn _hard_ to just... click that little icon.
I have a habit of saving my game in a new slot if I know I'm going to make a decision I'll hate later, but need to make anyway. Then I can always go back to the other one if I feel like it and say, "See, it's all still okay!"
It's a goofy coping mechanism, but it works.

I always felt that thing about rivalry relationships in DA (for everyone, but particularly Anders) is that they're all talk, no action, and that's why they're still a form of relationship instead of the termination of that relationship. Gaining rivalry points with Fenris is a very different thing than actually turning him over to Danarius. When you are earning rivalry points, it means you are still loyal to the character, and they are still loyal to you, despite your disagreements.
When I wrote rival Hawke, I was imagining her gnashing her teeth in frustration that Anders can't see the mess he's made of his life, and he's just as frustrated that she can't see that he's in the right about it. She tries to shock him out of his acceptance of what he's become to force him to see that Justice has corrupted him (and ultimately succeeds when they split sufficiently for Justice to just take over and do the bombing, albeit not in a way that ends up benefiting anyone). Anders, for his part, recognizes that for all that Hawke says, she's saying it out of concern for him, since if she really just saw him as unsaveable, she would turn him over to the templars. It's certainly not a healthy relationship, but it's definitely a dynamic that exists in real life (granted, in real life, they've usually had time to build a foundation of that relationship *before* the crazy starts, but I thought it was at least a dynamic some people would relate to).
P.S. I love that 2000+ pages later, you guys are still actually talking about the character. Thanks for all the love.

Personally, I think a kitten stampede is a much more effective method of dragonslaying.

Thank you for giving us a character that's worth talking about for 2000+ pages.

So,
I was playing Legacy last night and ran across a dialog between Varric and Anders that made me scratch my head. Apparently, Anders owes Fenris money from losing to him at Wicked Grace and is paying in installments.
LOL
Now... that's not usually something you do for your mortal enemy... allow an installment plan, I mean, right? Nor would you sound amused when recounting said debt to another friend.
I doubt this means they're best buddies, but they're less hostile than we might think, maybe. I also don't know if this dialog is Legacy specific.

I love that banter. It's a pity you only get it when Anders is unromanced. I think I actually prefer it to what a romanced Anders says. Sure, it's adorable when Anders says that Hawke is cute, but I like the ambiguity it throws on Anders's relationship with Fenris.Sialater wrote...

When a fairly sizable group of people (who all have varying degrees of acquaintance or friendship with each other) coexists in a fairly small area together, they do have to learn to play nice pretty quickly, or else things get _really_ messy, really fast.
Or you just start a knitting circle where everyone gossips about everyone else behind their backs.
Anders and Fenris do have mutual hatreds of some things. Blood magic, and demons, for example. So they're not always talking at completely cross-purposes. Sometimes they're just too damn stubborn to realize it.

I've mentioned that dialogue before. I used it to support my argument that they do see each other as human from time to time, but that doesn't bridge the gap between them, or make them any less likely to be knowingly cruel towards one another.
oh are we comparing saves nowGiggles_Manically wrote...
I have 500 saves in my canon file alone.
I saved before every convo, choice, and big combat area.
On the plus side I never had to go back far in case of crashes/party wipe
