I did like when Sebastian was talking to Aveline about making Hawke viscount. Even unspoiled, I knew it was never going to happen but it was still a nice vote of confidence.

He annoyed me quite a bit at the end. When I'm trying to deal with the business of Anders you just blew up a chantry and he's all KILLLLLL HIMMMMM. It was like, he kept interrupting and everyone just kept ignoring him. That at least made me laugh.

What good is a priest if he isn't a hypocrite?

For everyone he wanted to save there were just as many he didn't mind killing. Man of the cloth indeed.

Oh Act 3 Anders.... you are all sorts of special kinds of crazy.

His banter hurts me :( Maybe I'll bench him for a while.

Yeah, maybe he and Sebastian will nag on another to death while their taut buns warm the bench.

I had them both in my party and they started arguing in Andrastian and that's when I knew it was time-out time. I had a lol at how much like a hippie Sebastian seems next to Anders though, faithwise.

My dislikeof Sebastian doesn't even have anything to do with Anders, I just don't like preachy, "everything happens for a reason" people. In that banter with Fenris about the little boy Danarius killed for blood magic lulz to impress his buddies.... I wanted to reach into my screen and slap him halfway across Kirkwall. Or when he was asking Fenris when they should turn in the maleficarum, when my mage Hawke was standing right there along with his abomination boyfriend...

Just like, srsly dude? Srsly? Good for you that you found the Maker, but dnw to drag a priest around when I have a much better (and sexier and funnier) archer already :P

Technically it did happen for a reason...Danarius wanted to impress his buddies.

Of course, I doubt it would comfort him if I told him that two reasons the Chantry exploded are because Anders put a bomb in it and because he wanted to start a mage revolution (depending on which kind of reason he's looking for). Still, my Hawke tried. Posted Image

Haha, well, technically there was a reason but that banter wasn't just "it happened for a reason" as much as Sebastian making up reasons for why the Maker allowed it to happen. That's what annoyed me, and yeah,I wish I could just say "it was the Maker's will" or something at him.

...Sebastian said that happened for a reason? I guess I should be glad that the one squadmate I don't have is one that I probably wouldn't like anyway.

I honestly never took that guy with me anywhere. Except his main quests.

Not sure I will even recruit him this playthrough. I really did feel like he was messing up the drama of the ending, when I wanted to deal with Anders and he wouldn't shut up.

@Yuki THAT's the point where I started to hate him, the banter with Fenris about the little boy being killed. My jaw hit the table and he never came with me into battle again. It was also when I started to lose a bit of respect for Fenris, because after that Fenris starts to come around to Sebastians patently ridiculous arguments. From then on I was "No, my sparkly elf, I will not let your delicate ears be corrupted by the religious zealot. You're not coming with me on his personal quest, you need to remain strong against him!"

  • Fenris: Terrible things do happen, Sebastian.
  • Sebastian: But what we see is only a piece of the puzzle. Only the Maker can see the greater picture.
  • Fenris: The guilty prosper. Innocents die.
  • Sebastian: And then they are brought to the side of the Maker. Their suffering ends. There is always a greater purpose.
  • Fenris: Danarius once killed a little boy to fuel blood
magic that let him impress his fellow Senators at a party. What was the
    purpose there?
  • Sebastian: Perhaps it was witnessing that which will give you the strength to prevent it ever happening again.

Gah. Anders is so PERFECT at the end of the "all that remains" quest. No matter what you say he's just "I'm here and I'm AWESOME and I love you and..." *total melt*. That point is the best point in the entire romance IMO. Apart from the panting.

Guh. The Panting.

Another bad one is a banter Sebastian has with Anders (though I did like his cloud one, especially if Merrill is there):
Sebastian: You seem very angry.
Anders: And here I thought the Chantry was against mind-reading.
Sebastian: Did something happen to you in the Circle? I understand there were problems in Ferelden...
Anders: Are you saying a mage can only be unhappy in the Circle if demons involved?
Anders: No, it's not about Uldred. It's not about being beaten or raped by a templar - that does happen, but I've been fortunate.
Anders: It' s a larger principle: the freedom every man, woman, and child born in Thedas have as a natural right.
Sebastian: You were given to the Circle. I was given to the Chantry. Hawke was driven away from home by the Darkspawn.
Sebastian: None of us are free.

Hawke may be a refugee but unless it's Act 1 I can't say she's constrained by much. Possibly if she's a mage but then that's because of her magic which is Anders' point. And Sebastian? How he can possibly compare his willingly taking vows that he can and does get out of at the drop of a hat to go reclaim a city that he changes his mind about AGAIN to what mages go through with a straight face is beyond me. The only thing holding Sebastian back is his freaking indecision.

I've tried three of the options but not 'you should go.' I was worried that he might listen. Does anyone know?

That is, notably, the only time he doesn't react badly to someone suggesting the templars are right. He just gently disagrees and reminds you that it was one person who did this before staying with you. Posted Image

I'll save and pick that option when I get to it. I don't know if he does agree, but I also don't know what comes out of Hawke's mouth - sometimes it has very little to do with what's on the dialogue wheel!

Sebastian is looming over your shoulder the whole time you are talking with Anders, after he blows up the chantry. He practically right on top of you. Everyone else knows to go away but he clearly can't take a hint. For a chaste Prince he certainly has no sense of personal space.

I'm pretty sure Jennifer Hepler wrote Sebastian, it bewilders me that she can write my one of my most beloved and one of my most hated companions. And while I'd really like to say I don't like him because he's "preachy", Anders is just as preachy with his mage talk. Sebastian is a pretty intresting and decent character, if you think about him for a while. That doesn't mean I'm going to bring him around everywhere I go or try to hate him less...

So I basically have no reason to hate Sebastian, other than he has Andraste's face on his crotch, which is reason enough for me.

And Fenris starts to agree with him? o_o That's just... wrong. I'm glad Anders doesn't. (And I'm glad he was also fortunate.)

One of those times not having the DLC worked out well for me.

@lamppostinwinter: Not agreeing with him is enough reason not to like the character. I normally don't like characters that I don't agree with, especially when they talk about it all the time. When a character goes on and on about something I agree with, like freedom for the mages, I like listening to it.

Anyone get Anders' jealous dialouge when you flirt with Zevran? I just did, it's cute but not as cute as Fenris' jealous dialouge toward Zevran, or as cute when Anders is jealous because of Fenris :)

Dear Maker, it just took me over an hour to read the 20+ pages that popped up while I was sleeping. You guys are crazy. I love it.

I prefer the friendship romance with Anders, as, instead of helping him and J/V be content together, it actually supports Anders and gives him something other than the mage situation to focus on. A distraction, as J/V complains about, which I see as a positive thing. I believe Anders is able to be more himself when with Hawke, and having Hawke as a lover and protector allows him a bit of relief from the uncertainty, the fear, and the stress that tends to spur J/V on.
That his codex mentions him being "tender and devoted" implies to me that he's not having to struggle with J/V when around Hawke. It's hard to be tender when you're mentally warring with a spirit over whether to cuddle or work on your manifesto, so perhaps J/V has given up in disgust and has chosen to stay the hell away during the times that they're focusing on each other, allowing Anders a bit of respite.

I can imagine that one of my Hawke's actions following their flight from Kirkwall is to find a way back into the Fade where she has the chance of speaking to J/V again, just as she did in Night Terrors. I imagine she'd want the chance to remonstrate with J/V, and tell him that she supports the mage cause, but that he needs to allow Anders to call the shots more often or it will all go horribly wrong.
Anders says that spirits are creatures that respond to emotions and given how responsive the Fade is, Hawke could possibly demonstrate to J/V just what it feels like to love someone and have that person betray them. J/V has wondered what love is like before, so I'd be curious if letting him experience some of what it feels like for Hawke and Anders would have a moderating influence on him. Injecting some of that compassion and mercy back into Vengeance. This all sounds like I'm suggesting that Hawke and J/V have passionate Fade sex and maybe I am, but there are probably other ways to express yourself in the Fade that would get the point accross just as well.
It might not have any effect, or only a temporary one, given that it's Anders' head he lives in and not Hawke's (and there's a thought for later), but, by the Maker, my Hawke would want to at least try. As much as she supports their crusade, it's breaking her heart to see Anders lose himself.

Well David Gaider did say that Anders is a nickname because he comes from the Anderfels. Just read the Anderfels codex and it says 'The Anders, too, are a people of extremes: The most devout priests and the most deadly soldiers, the poorest nation in the world and the most feared."

He spent his first 12 years there so maybe part of his extreme views on things is a part of his heritage and made it easier for Justice to manipulate.

I don't think he spent his first twelve years there or he wouldn't have ended up in the Ferelden Circle. I suspect they moved to Ferelden when he was a child or even earlier.

@Threeparts: I think Justice hasn't interfered with Anders and Kaya's relationship because she supports the cause too. She helps mages, kills templars, and probably proof-reads the manifesto in her spare time. Even if Justice doesn't like spending one waking moment on something other than the cause, he might know a good influence when he sees one. Now, for a Hawke who isn't dedicated to the cause like Kaya... I have no idea how to explain it.

And I definitely agree with what you said about the Fade. :D That would be adorable.

I doubt Justice likes Anders partner period. Even if you play a Hawke who supports him, Hawke is still a distraction.

Aw, I always imagined my rogue-romancing-Anders!Hawke proofreading the manifesto too. It's all over her mansion, after all.

Also, seconding everything Threeparts said.
