Seven years after the end of the Blight, Kirkwall is no longer flooded with refugees. If the Chantry ever did shelter refugees on the premises, you would have seen them in Act 1, not Act 3. Also, the refugees mostly wind up in Darktown. There's nowhere else for them to go.

Maybe in your headcanon, the benevolent Chantry is taking in refugees, but canon Kirkwall is a very different place.

Well first off I don't think you would see them as their not going to animate a bunch of people and that part of the church would not be the refugee's are kept. Second, its not my canon, as you saw in Lothering, the Chantry takes in refugee's. Lastly, even after the blight, you clearly saw people from Kirkwall were still there, when your displaced from you home, most people cant just simply go back and were more than likely stuck there.

That was Lothering. This is Kirkwall. And I don't buy the excuse that nobody wanted to do the animations. Pre-rendered cutscenes do not require the resources that game-play does. If they wanted to to show that the Chantry was housing the homeless, they could have put one single person in the scene who was not wearing a Chantry uniform, whether templar or cleric. They did not. You see fleeing mobs during the Qunari attack. You see them in an area that is much more challenging to render graphically than a silent chantry at night. The reason you don't see them is because they aren't there.

As someone who has made cutscenes...the chantry explosion was pre-recorded not.."live" if you will. Big scenes in Origins such as when Loghain addresses the Landsmeet, the army marching on Denerim (where the Warden was not present) those are all pre recorded so they don't take up as much memory. So I agree, if there were a lot of people there we would have seen them fleeing.  If it was live, such as the landsmeet or whatever, each additional npc would cost performance. But this is not.

Nice to have an expert post the technical aspects of it. :wizard:

WOAH. I didn't know that Morrigan's picture was on the final page in Varric's book when it closes shut.

"Death to all pigeons!" is the best battle-cry ever.

But yeah, it's not like we haven't had heaps of foreshadowy things involving either Morrigan or Flemeth already...I just hope they actually end up, y'know, amounting to something.

I never had Shale. I have the DLC code or w/e in my DA:O box but I thought I couldn't use it since it was expired (since I didn't actually end up playing the game till like 2 months ago lol but I'd owned it for a quite awhile) but I think someone said it still worked for them once...wish I had tried it before doing my whole PT lol

I'm pretty sure the expiration dates were either wonky from the beginning or ended up being removed. If you ever replay DAO, give your code a try (if you still have it, that is). Shale is really worth having, if only for the chuckles.

You know what sucks...that quest you're supposed to get for Merrill at the start of Act 2 still never triggers for me or well it does, and then says its completed. I think this video I'm looking at right now is of it for a Templar Carver...I didn't know she talked to you about what happened with your sibling. That's sweet. Wish I could find more of these. I'm just assuming this is that quest since I've never gotten this convo with her lol

They cut it for Warden Carver, I still get it for Templar Carver though. Don't know about when the Sibling dies.

They cut it? o.O Then why does the quest still show up and then just go to completed. I thought it was a bug, I always read it was a bug....

They cut it due to a bug, and apparently fixing it might have caused problems later in the game as far as Merril goes. Thats what was said anyway.

They could have retrieved her remains. They could have sent some Templars or used the guard.

Seriously though....most of the Fetch and Deliver quests have no releveance in the game.

When Hawke brings them back to the Chantry brother in the sleeping area, he says "Well, bless my spirit., I wondered where I left these," or something like that. Obviously, Darktown is not a priority.

No.

That is just a stock line that people say.
I brought back a guy's cream for his rash and he said the same thing.

Stock lines.
I got the line "I... i never thought I would see these again... thank you"

The quest is telling though.
She went to Darktown for the Chantry.
Then was murdered by someone there.

Now how many people are going to line up to be the next one to go down there?

Actually, this one isn't. It's unique to the Chantry brother and unique to this quest. I've done every single fetch-and-deliver quest in the game through multiple playthroughs and he's the only one that says "bless my spirit." Epic hair-splitting, but true, nonetheless.

Edit:

"The quest is telling though.

If they are as benevolent and self-sacrificing as some people seem to believe, one would think that might serve as encouragement. Why send missionaries to places that are already converted?

Makes sense.

Way too many thieves trying to knife someone in the ribs down there. Hawke can't swing a dead cat without being swarmed. <_<

Really don't understand why people would see Hawke...whose made a living killing people and go "OMG he has money! ATTACK!" and think that's a good idea. :pinched:

Also...her body was found next to a slaver in Darktown, Danzig. Not some random refugee that decided to gut her. Anyways, those quests honestly have no relevance which is sort of annoying. I've only maybe ended up doing like 2 of them. I seriously wonder why they were even bothered to be put into the game..

Actually many modern day missionaries put themselves in harms way, so yeah you'd think they would at least try. So what you are saying is if say...a modern missionary was killed by a random thug in a neighborhood, the organization that sent this person would consider everyone else in that neighborhood that might actually *need* help a lost cause? If so...I'm not sure I want part of that religion.

Ha! My favorite guard in Denerim.

But for the most part at least the Warden was attacked there was traps around. Lousy traps but hey...they tried more than just throwing themselves in droves at least.

The Qunari consider the bodies of their dead to be husks.............

Does that mean the Chantry basically do the same thing by not retrieving that poor sister's remains?
They let her rot there.

Which makes them hypocritical to Qunari...heathens since they are doing the SAME by leaving her body.

For one...if the Chantry really was hoping to have a presence in Darktown - they would go with Templar guards if they knew it was dangerous down there but still wanted to bring food/water to the needy. If one of their sisters randomly went missing that would have caused quite a stir. It makes me feel like those remains are really old or something, given the fact that the guy you return them to is "Archivist Plinth" you would think he would have buried a relative o.O

Half the reason Anders has no trouble getting spotted by Templars/Chantry priests is because they're never there.
