I was trying to read that thread to see what all the fuss was about but it made me want to slam my head into something hard. But enough of that. Let's talk about Anders you lovely, crazy people!

The general consensus seems to be that it would have been nice (and probably made more sense) to give Anders the key earlier. Even my Hawkes that weren't romancing him wouldn't have minded giving him somewhere other than Darktown to hang his boots after a long day at the clinic. But what I'm getting to is this... If that was moved earlier to Act 2, what sort of scene would you all have like in Act 3?

I'm not actually sure what else I would have liked to see, but I was curious what any of you thought.

I'd legitimately like to talk to him about how he's feeling. Like how he comforts Hawke after Leandra's death, only Hawke showing some pro-active interest in his well-being and maybe getting told what is merely written in the codex. I, for one, would love to hear him say that Hawke is the only reason he has any sanity at all and then point out that he's doing amazingly well considering what's going on and the whole Justice thing.

Or kitten giving. That seems like a good time for kitten giving, right?

...I've never actually not given him the key. What is this bizarro alternate conversation you speak of?

As for an additional scene, getting him a kitten. For sure.

As for other thread...sometimes I try. I really do. Then I just get all frazzled and come back in here where it's safe.

I second the giving him a kitten/cat thing.  Especially if it resulted in a  scene like:

Giving him a kitten would have been amazing. But I really like the idea of Hawke being able to talk to him about how he's doing. It would have been nice to get some of that concretely in game instead of mostly all in the codex. The codex is amazing and heartbreaking but it could have been that and more if we saw it or heard it from Anders directly. It would have been a nice touch. We don't get to see much of Hawke directly caring for Anders as he deteriorates.

Seriously, the kitten thing is so sad. I have always wanted a kitten so much more than a mabari. :( Yes, I am glad they at least wrote that into the codex though if they weren't going to show anything like that at all =/ It makes me feel like Hawke has talked to him about his problems and also helped him to control his emotions & Justice a little bit more over those years.

Yeah I really hate seeing it only in the codex. I wish we'd have been able to talk to him and comfort him after his episode in Legacy as well. I was really struck by that last night.. Hawke was mute and Isabela did the comforting!
Or can you talk to him about it in game after if you aren't doing it post campaign?

Exactly!

And, while we're on the subject of content we'll never get, I wish that the cutscene with Anders/Varric in the Hanged Man had gone differently if Anders is living with you. The way it plays out, it's like you're hardly on speaking terms with the guy. I have a hard time believing he'd just walk away.

Thus, I pretend like they're roleplaying "Missed Connections" or something and later "accidentally" run into each other in a secluded alley for...um. Yes.

@Ashyraine I did it in Act 2 and had no opportunity to comfort him. The only convo I got was about the amulet you find on Cory, and that was immediately after killing him.

Yeah, I mean, I never felt like Hawke was just completely uncaring or something. It just would have been nice to see a bit of that in a quiet conversation in game. Then again, I could always do with another conversation with Anders.

As for other thread...sometimes I try. I really do. Then I just get all frazzled and come back in here where it's safe.

You've never... what?

OK, let's take the question at face value. There are other dialogue options in that scene, and at least one of them is really, really fun. And not everbody plays through all the dialogue options before deciding which one they like the best.

In the first Anders conversation of Act 3 (if you let him move in with you, that is), it starts with Anders and Merrill talking by a window. During the course of that conversation, you can give Anders the key to your basement, the one you explored during Birthright, that later turns out to be the Den of Evil... but that's another story. Anyway, the other choices during that conversation are to duck back into the bedroom for some spontaneous together time or something else. I never picked it.

Sorry if I was confusing. I meant, I always just give him the key, and I don't have a save around that point (well...maybe I do, but I'm at work). I thought perhaps that if you didn't give him the key, there was a completely different convo? Maybe I'm the confused one. But I'll admit that yes, I sometimes don't reload the scene to see different options. What can I say, I'm a lazy mf'er sometimes.

What I usually do is give key, say we should be doing something more fun. Maybe next time I'll try some other things, for science, and not bother all of you ;)

ETA: Gah, I ate some soup and now I'm behind in the convo.

As for my kitten comment, I was mostly just being silly. I mean, it would be cute, but I agree a million times that a conversation on the well being of Anders would be absolutely amazing. It definitely feels like they just tell you how he's doing, and how he's coping (or not coping), and how Hawke is this amazing person keeping him sane, but don't really go out of their way to show it. I think the "Isabela comforting him instead of Hawke" thing in Legacy is a perfect example. I love Isabela too, so I was alright with it but...Hawke could have said something.

Maybe you could...hand him a kitten, and then ask him about his day?

The convo can go a few ways without giving him the key. But I just always have to reload and give it to him because it feels weird not to.

Oh, that drives me crazy! It feels really jarring. Even if you weren't romancing him but just his friend, he seems so cold. He seems unhappy to see Hawke, when, in every other convo he always seems so pleased to see Hawke (well, friend Hawke at least). Although, I like your interpretation of it. I'll have to head canon it that way, haha.

I'm 20 seconds away from blowing up the Elthina thread in a great display of purple fireworks. Someone stop me. Or else I will have to say I felt honor-bound to keep you out of it.

That smirk is so great though haha. I wish that had been a full blown out scene. The way he walks forward I was like "woah! Anders is suddenly past his paranoia now and something else has definitely taken over his mind." Hahaha.

That scene bothers me too o.O like even Isabela is usually "SUP HAWKE!"

Legacy was a little funny because it forced me to start talking in Hawke's place. Somehow I became snark Hawke, though, and just started saying really inappropriate things to comfort Anders.

Hah. I must have forgotten to loot the boss.. I never saw that! This is what happens when Isabela isn't there to say "loot the bodies!"  or I'm not in an MMO with them saying "Don't forget the loot, Ash"

Agreed a million times. I think they could have just had Anders say what Varric does, and it would have been fine. As in, Hawke asks Anders what he's doing there, and Anders explains that Varric buys him drinks, etc. Not perfect, but better? Overall if they had just made the scene not so "wtf why is Anders here" and more "hey, what are you guys talking about?", it could have been better.

It's an Anders' specific amulet. I think you still get it if he's not there? However, the conversation about it can only happen if you bring him along because he won't talk about it if you give it to him later. Oh, and only if you loot the boss of course. :P

At least Varric says that he buy drinks for Anders as a favour for Hawke.

Yeah thankfully I had a save right after killing the boss (called WOO I DID IT) so I was able to loot and see the convo :D Yay! And I'll get to see it again tonight, Rivalry style I guess, when Punk Hawke finishes Legacy
