It's an Anders' specific amulet. I think you still get it if he's not there? However, the conversation about it can only happen if you bring him along because he won't talk about it if you give it to him later. Oh, and only if you loot the boss of course.

Yeah, he has a Tevinter amulet on him that more or less proves to Anders that Cory actually was a magister like he claimed. You can then have a small conversation with him about the implications for mages, the Chantry, and so on.

I don't hate Sebastian or Elthina but I certainly don't like them. I do appreciate that they are socially relevant characters but in my opinion...they represent everything I loathe about establish religion.  

I have a neighbor/gaming friend who lost her brother in law in the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995.  They are hardcore gamers and they played DA and DA2 and both told me the actions of Anders did NOT offend them because its a game.

They told me people have to move on. People should keep the memory of their loved ones but don't let it be the focus of their life because then the terrorists have won.

I don't necessarily *hate* Elthina, I just hate how she blithely chooses to ignore everything going on around her. And the few times we DO talk to her it seems like she is just pretending to care. You tell her about Alrik and it's like "Oh. He was murdered!" you ask her to take a side, and she is like "Well, I feel for the Mages..I do, but I can't do anything. They have to solve this themselves." It's just like so frustrating because there comes a point where I feel like she stops being stupid, and just flat out doesn't care. That's why she bothers me so much, because she does nothing and claims that she is trying to maintain peace by doing nothing.
