True colours is actually a really good song for Hawke+Anders.

Show me a smile,
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear,
Just call me up,
cause you know I'll be there

Yeah it is XD

Ok so I'm gonna have to look it up now.

Ugh top:

Poison & Wine works wonderfully for a rivalmance.

I keep hearing Uptown Girl and Crazy Train on the radio and they remind me of Anders and I blame you people. :wizard: Look at what you've done to my brain!

I've heard I Will Possess Your Heart by Death Cab for Cutie several times these past few days, and it works nicely for Creeper!Aching!Anders (and a Hawke who might not be interested, but **** those Hawkes, they don't deserve Andersy theme songs).

Opening verse!

How I wish you could see the potential,
the potential of you and me.
It's like a book elegantly bound but,
in a language that you can't read.
Just yet.

If we're doing cheesy 80s songs, I love Billy Joel's "You may be right."

"You may be right, I may be crazy
but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light, don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know but you may be right."

Thanks to a rather heartbreaking iTunes Genius playlist I made the other day, I'm now convinced that Possession and Never is a Promise are my Hawke and Anders themes. It's funny how songs you haven't heard in years, but suddenly become reacquainted with, can take on new meaning.

Ok, here's a really weird Anders song. I actually never liked this song, even though I am a huge fan of the artist, until I got into Anders... at which point I was like "oooooh."

It's technically about something else, but I think it perfectly captures his hesitancy to be with Hawke.

I Crush Everything.

I lie below, you float above
In the pretty white ships that I've been dreaming of
And I'd like to swim beside you
Getting dizzy in your wake
Getting close enough to touch you
Getting brave enough to take you into my arms
And bring you down to be with me

But I can't do that thing anymore
I can't be the thing I was before
Maybe I am better off alone
Because I crush everything
And I crush everything
And I crush everything

My body's strong, my will is weak
I got pretty nice arms, but I hate my beak
And the dolphins are all phonies
They seem nice enough at first
But they pretend to be your friend
Until they see you at your worst and then they leave you
Without a word they swim away

So I can't do that thing anymore
I can't be the thing I was before
Maybe I am better off alone
Because I crush everything
And I crush everything
And I crush everything

And everything I want I take
And everything I love I break
Every night I lie awake

For some reason, I always hear REO Speedwagon's "Can't Fight This Feeling" whenever a Friendmanced Anders shows up on Hawke's doorstep. Posted Image

You aren't the only one. And it makes me cringe, though I love it still.

Jeez, are we showing our ages or what? Or maybe you're just into retro.

I've recently grown fond of Christina Perri's Arms for Anders and Hawke. A lot of the lyrics fit pretty well for them but particularly:

The world is coming down on me and I can't find a reason to be loved
I never wanna leave you but I can't make you bleed if I'm alone

Sarah MacLachlan's Possession. Oh. My. G*d. Once more, I am sucker-punched by a strange, not-necessarily-happy conincidence. I've said it before, but it's been a while. I am a huge Due South fan. I love the concept of it, a man, possibly one with a questionable past, willingly assuming the role of savior despite his own lack of aptitude for the role, and definitely against the preferences of just about everyone who cares about him. He has a "Batman voice," when his super-ego takes over his vocal chords and makes him say any number of ludicrous things. He means well. He fails. He falls in love, possibly to his own detriment. He has a spirit of justice inside him that prevents him from ever being quite normal. Are we talking about Anders or are we talking about the hero of Due South? So far, both. For Benton Fraser, he chooses to be the Mountie every day, but for Anders, it's become his life.

That, in a nutshell, is why I fell so hard for Anders. He is not Superman. He is a man. Or was, before he gave himself to his cause. He is still hopelessly flawed, and the "real" man makes infrequent, rapidly vanishing appearances. Now, all he has left is that long drive into the ice, in Benton Fraser's case, or the player's choice of fates, for Anders. And that is why, while I love my canon Hawke, Iain, my first playthrough as more or less myself (never to be shared with the public under any circumstances) was quite different. Suffice it to say that she was not sugar and spice, but she tried to be for him.

Due South Possession video, if you're curious.

Edit: It might also be of interest to note that Benton Fraser is irreparably broken by the choices he has made. I guess it really is not a supportable lifestyle.

Hello Anders Thread!  I've been lurking here for quite awhile, but I am shy so have never gotten the nerve up to actually post
something.   Why this particular post got me over that I'm not sure, but
all my love to berelinde for the Due South reference.   I totally agree
on the Fraser/Anders parallels although I hadn't thought about that
before.  I think I love both characters even more now, if that is
possible.  Anyways, excuse my gushing and hopefully I'll contribute more
meaningfully to discussion in the future.

For some reason, people feel the need to play "My LI can beat up your LI".

Seems more like "my LI is morally superior to your LI" nowadays. Everybody knows the mage would have the advantage in an all-out brawl. :D

Sure about that? Merrill would get so much blood on his nice robes and Fenris, with his phasing ability, is capable of the most torturous wet willies the world has ever witnessed.

I say Isabela wins. Isabela wins even when she loses.

Everytime I hear that song even mentioned, I think of Mozco's NWN2 fan fic spoofs.:wizard:

Because you're wrong and delusional, and need random people on the internet to  correct you before it's too late. :wizard:

I have to admit this... the song that reminds of me Anders and Hawke is I think we're alone now by Tiffany. The whole running away with him after the final mission.

I love Anders and yet hate him too.

I think It's the Fear by Within Temptation fits Anders pretty well.
