Forget the romance. I'd be happy just modding in a cat for him. Anders without a cat is like Duncan without a beard or Bhelen without ruthless ambition. It's just so fundementally....wrong on all levels. :crying:

It's like Orzammar without Bhelen. On the road to self-destruction.

OK, so... I don't remember this ever being discussed and in 2000+ pages it's hard to imagine we've missed ANYTHING. But...

In the Deep Roads quest, Nathaniel says that he thought Anders was dead and we get his wonderfully paranoid, "all mages look alike" speech. Nathaniel also gets to say, "And here I hoped Justice would be the dominant personality." Is this hinting at the merger timeline? We know that Justice lost Kristoff's head in the battle at Virgil's Keep if you didn't take him with you to the Broodmother, but does it mean that Anders merged with Justice in the middle of that battle? I mean, talk about a decision made under duress.

Of course, my Awakening import is bugged to hell and back, so I could be getting screwy dialog. Moira did NOT leave the Architect alive, for instance.

Oh wow...Nate says that eh? I have no Awakening imports where Anders died so I don't know.

@Tidra...mine too :3

On a more depressing note, WTF with that lame execution for romanced Hawke? I haven't been this angry since I killed off romanced Alistair and no one seemed to notice at the end.

They suposedly fixed that with the patch. Suposedly.

That being said, It could have been very possible for Anders to have merged with Justice durring the battle. It could also be possible that it as some time after, but still soon enough before Anders was sent away and stuck with the Templar that Nathaniel would know about it.

Anders never died in any of my playthroughs, though, so I never get that dialog. And, I always drag Nathaniel/Anders everywhere with my Wardens, and swap out the last spot depending on the quest - Justice and Sigrun and Oghrin. I only take Crazy Dalish What-her-name with me for quests relating to her, then, she ROTS ;p

Thus I get the "HEY BRO WHATS UP" talk from both boys durring that quest :P

What My Hawke/Anders are doing convo: Sadly, my Hawkes never end up running away happily ever crazy. My Andersmance ends up with him dead, because its just to tragically awesome. <3

I came into DA2 most excited about seeing Anders again, and it didn't even occur to me that there would not be a way to "save" him from Justice-turned-Vengeance.  I mean, it's a game, that means we have choices and can affect the story, right?  So, by the time Act 3 rolled around, I was gutted.  Hawke didn't even try to help Anders.

So even if I'm playing anti-mage in DA3, I'll be sad if I'm confronted with Angry Vengeance Anders as an enemy.  It will just be a reminder of how powerless I felt in DA2.

I agree with this. Whether friendshiping or rivalling, Hawke does a pretty ****** poor job when it comes to Anders (and everything else but I digress), imo.

I would have preferred if Anders is beyond saving, that's what I like about him. But I certainly wish that Hawke had a better attempt at helping him, specifically trying to communicate with Justice. Even if it failed, I believe it woul have shed more light on Anders and Justice.

I would have been more at peace with the conclusion if we had been given some sort of option to care, before Anders offers the glorious opportunity to go digging for fertilizer.  Knowing that I at least tried to help, even if I always failed, would have made it less frustrating.

Xilizhra wrote...

I don't know. Anders seems pretty together if you spare him and fight the templars.

I think Anders is pretty focused at that moment, because Justice has a very clear purpose, and they are working together.  If you rival him, and make him fight the mages, he seems broken, and as many have said, implies that he'll commit suicide after this is all over.  I don't know what the writers have in store, but I doubt that we'll see a fully "together" and functioning Anders if we see him again in DA3.

I feel like the DA writers have "NO HAPPY ENDINGS ALLOWED, EVER" written on a whiteboard somewhere.  And circled.

But that's the problem he DIDN'T die in Awakening for me.  I got the end card where he considered the Wardens his home.   So yeah... badly bugged.  And I saw no patches to DL when I got Legacy (I'm on the 360), so, kinda screwed there.

Weird. 1.3 suposedly fixed it. If you haven't already dl'd it, check again. If you did.. it might just be your import itself, which means you'll just be forced to replay Awakening just to fix it. Poor you

Totally untrue. My Angel Hawke is happily sailing away with Fenris on Isabela's boat, drinking rum, sun bathing, and singing bawdy songs. With a visit from my Tabris and Zevran!

Hawke has three years in which to be happy with any given LI after the game.  Then he/she disappears into the void with the Warden, to join the Hero of Neverwinter, Revan and the Exile.

I personally blame the Maker.

sadly i only romanced him twice but couldnt handle his mage hate and i didnt have isabella as she never came back which is probably why i didnt get that ending :{   but for anders no happy ending whichever path you choose due to his merge with justice :{

Don't forget about making Revan and the Exile canonical.  Ugh.

I honestly don't think Hawke left her LI behind when she disappeared.  Varric would have mentioned it, I think.

Total agreement here. I do not mind that Anders cannot be saved, either. IHowever, i still would have liked the option for hawke to at least try, or to show more concern for Anders own well being, outside of the mage cause or anything else, especially if Hawke is romancing him, because then Hawke's interest in Anders has gone beyond the mage cause, and has become personal.

Yet Hawke never really does this. Hell, my Wardens showed more concern and care for Anders well being, and he wasn't even possesed/crazy at that time, just really pissed off about the templars constantly harrassing him and hunting him down when all he wants is to live life on his own terms.

And yeah, I realkly wish we could have had the option to interact with Justice on his own, to see exactly how this was effecting the spirit as well. We know he is being turned dark by Anders deep seated rage, but how Justice might feel about this, or how it has specifically changed him, we never see. And we know far from being a bland, generic spirit template, Justice has his own unique personality, motives and viewpoints of his own, and certainly must have some opinion or feelings of his own after the merge.

But yeah, just because Anders can't be saved, doesn't mean I wouldn't have liked the opportunity to at least try and do something for him, instead of either letting him self destruct, or berating him for doing the merge in the first place.

And on a related note, if there is a way to help Anders, I believe the best place to look is Rivain, not Tevinter. The Rivani seers, specifically, who have long traditions and knowledge of their seers merging with helpful Fade spirits. Even if Justice could never be seperated from Anders, perhaps they might have the knowledge to help Anders learn to make inner peace and accord with Justice, and as a result, probably live a much happier life. And far less self destructive.

I thought Jade Empire's various endings were pretty awesome, and the Bhaalspawn gets several "happy" endings with the love interests, depending on your choices.

I just want to not be told my hero disappeared without her LI.  Leliana obviously didn't get to go to wherever the Warden is at the end of DA2, so I'm assuming that Alistair, Morrigan or Zevran isn't with him/her either.

I would prefer not to get cameos or mentions of Hawke and the various party members at all, if it means that it is canonically impossible for me to have a "nice" ending with them.

Anyone play NWN2: Storm of Zehir and get the reference to Casavir's fate?  I didn't even love the guy, and I was appalled.

Well unless it happens after he leaves Hawke, because he wouldn't know. But by the time he leaves Hawke s/he is still with her LI.

I'm of the view that half of DA2's story is exaggeration and hyperbole.
