It's thewoofles/anniewulf's Hawke, Issac. I don't know if she's on BSN? At any rate, you can find her here on DA.

Looks at the picture. Anders doesn't seem to think that it is funny, though.

lol come on, you obviously know its that way because its a video game and they cant give you 500 sovereign, becaue it would make no sense to ever keep Fenris.

I don't know about that. If you're trying to woo the guy, selling him back into slavery would pretty darn near top the list of "Dating Don'ts".

There is that :P

All in all its just an over all JERK move, and thus bring out the worst in Anders to witness it. It's actually a very telling sign of how degridated his personality is by that point in the game. While an Awakening Anders might have said the same, it would have been made in half-jest, much in the way he joked about the dieing templar when you first first meet him. That way, should the warden (or anyone, really) give him the ".. OMG WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU" look, he can laugh and then be all "uh sorry, bad joke."

But Act 3 Anders is so far beyond Awakening Anders that even his petty half-jokes are no longer half-joking, simply because he isn't able to joke anymore. He just doesn't even care if you give him the "wtf is wrong with you!" look, because if Hawke is willing to do the deed, he isn't expecting to get one from that department, and really.. Hawke's the only person in the whole world at that point who's oppinion of him still matters.

Thus my theory that the Jerkier Hawke is, the less inclined Anders is to be a nice guy. Yes, his personality is independant of Hawkes. Obviously. Yet, in some situations, Hawke's personality does play a roll. At least a bit. A more sarcastic, or more diplomatic Hawke wouldn't see some of the more pettier bits of Anders, simply because he would have no oportunity to really display them. That doesn't mean he's not capable, and he sure as heck can be oblivious to some of the things that slip out of his mouth.

But.. at the end of the day, if your Hawke isn't a utter dick (aka, willing to hand Fenris back to Denarius), then Anders isn't going to express the thought you(and I) know he's having in the back ot his head.

Is... that made more sense then the last time I tried to explain it, right? I hope so. I'm more awake now, at least :P

You're doing fine.  :wizard:

You and River5 have said everything the way I've been trying to explain it.

IIRC, Anders asks Hawke why Hawke would get a Mermanders tattoo, and Hawke responds "Because you're my girlfriend."

But! In other news, pyromaniac03 has been doing charity sketches, and the first two are Andersy and gorgeous:

Hmmm, several totally random things in mind, so here we go...

First Thing:

Anders is seriously breaking my heart at this point. I'm on my... jeez, can't even say what playthrough at this point. Fourth? Fifth, maybe? I am doing my second templar playthrough because I apparently muffed my first one and was one "decision" short of getting the siding-with-templars achievement (because you apparently have to be utterly heartless and tranquil Feynriel during "Night Terrors"... holy jalapeno on a stick, devs!). And I'm playing a Lady Hawke who is totally fawning all over Fenris right now and practically bro-fists him after every conversation that nets the standard Fenris Smirk/Anders Seethe reactions, but will ultimately end up with Anders (and will, despite pro-templar everything all game, end up jumping ship and going pro-mage after Chantry Jenga... because my soul can't handle full pro-templar rivalmance, not even For Science, so I'm compromising with a rivalmance that ends pro-mage... we'll see if that is any "happier" than the alternative rivalmance ending).

And despite how utterly unfeeling Hawke is to Anders during Act 1 right now ("Must you really do that right in front of me?" I KNOW, I AM SO SORRY. It's... it's only For Science, DON'T HATE ME, ANDERS Posted Image ), he has started doing something that has just completely and utterly melted my heart. And makes me feel like the biggest beeyotch ever. I KNOW actual gameplay isn't choreographed to the story, but... but... I REALLY wonder sometimes. It was just some random Cave #342 and my S&S Hawke was charging forward into battle. As usual. And Fenris was running off to attack some enemies off to the side. As usual. And Anders and Varric were hanging back and providing the heavy artillery. As usual. And then I noticed some enemies pop out of the ground behind Hawke (as usual) and rush to flank her... and Anders immediately stops what he's doing, runs up to her, puts himself between Hawke and the approaching baddies, and proceeds to magically pummel them. As if, despite her stomping on all his beliefs and feelings and practically groping Fenris in full view, Anders still can't help but start developing feelings for her and moved to directly protect her. While Fenris is off being utterly oblivious to Hawke nearly getting snuck up on. And... I have Anders set up as a healer and buffer first and foremost, with some offensive spells to be used when nobody's hurt too badly at the moment. No tactics set up that equate "Hawke being attacked (by ANY type of attack) = Anders, do something heroic!". I... actually just stopped in mid-combat and stared like a moron. I was that in shock and, honestly, touched. And that's continued to happen several times now. Don't know if it's a bug or some bizarre aligning-of-the-stars thing going on in his tactics set-up, but my heart's melted even further. Which I did not think possible in regards to Anders. *wibbles*

Second Thing:

Excuse the on-going diatribe of text here... running on lots of rum at the moment... so, had a pretty disturbing thought about Tranquility. Not that the subject isn't already disturbing enough by itself, mind you, but it just sunk to an all-new level of... something unpleasant, to me. For some reason, I got to thinking about the mage origin in DAO again and seem to recall that usually being made tranquil occurs before a mage's Harrowing... happens if the mage chooses it because he/she is so afraid of the Harrowing that they would rather be lobotomized or if the First Enchanter feels the apprentice is too dumb/untalented/untrustworthy/what-have-you to successfully navigate the Harrowing. And... seemed like the Harrowing happened when apprentices were late teens/early young adulthood, as if the Harrowing were your final exam before graduating either high school or college. So... they're basically tranquiling KIDS. WTH? Seriously. Imagine being lobotomized because you were afraid you'd fail your senior year final exam. OMG, I can't even begin to describe the many levels of which that is so wrong. I... am appreciating the whole running-off-to-help-Anders-lead-the-rebellion ending all the more. Posted Image

Third Thing:

Going waaaaay back to, like, the second or third time we discussed the possibilities of talk therapy with Justice/Vengeance (via the Fade or otherwise). This song, which I've had on my iPod for years but hadn't really listened to recently, really quite beautifully sums up how I'd hope such an initial "session" with Justice might go. Also, made me think of the awesomeness that is Tempering Justice once again. Good times, good times... Posted Image

@DragonRacer You are a braver soul than I. Even on my templar playthrough I couldn't bear to make Feynriel Tranquil. And then I sided with the mages anyway. And that Hawke rivalmanced Anders and didn't go for Fenris.

That tactics thing is neat. I've never had that happen spontaneously, although I think Zev has something similar in his default tactics (Dirty Fighting on whoever attacks the Warden? Sounds about right.) I would always have Alistair's tactics set to Shield Bash anything that attacked the Warden, which saved my bacon a few times.

And I totally support the talk therapy idea. I think all my Warden-Commanders would be up for that.

The Tranquil. Guh. You know, I never felt that bad for Owain in Origins until I played DA 2. Now talking to him makes me sad. I think you're right about the time frame for the Harrowing and the fact that the apprentice can choose it/First Enchanter can decide it should happen, like with Jowan.

I wish rival Anders had a different speech during the side-with-the-mages ending, because him going from "Kill me now before there's nothing left of me" to hopeful "We'll be fugitives together" boggles my mind.

I didn't. I did turn Grace and co. over to the templars. It was my one and only templar siding run. (For science) I would never do it again, even to try rivalmance Anders ending now that its fixed.

Lol yeah I turned Grace over as well but never have tranqued feynriel. Its funny because I've had that combat thing happen with Fenris a lot but not Anders. Anders is usually hanging in the back long ranging while im either by him or up front depending what im playing. Sometimes I wonder if it is a tactics thing or a slot assignment thing. *shrug* I've never had heroic Anders although my Anders is a complete badass and I love it. He doesn't rush to my side whereas Fenris like always does even if Anders is getting beat on, lol.

As for rivalry... yeah I think I want to do another Templars PT but it was hard to get through my all rival Hawke. I don't know if I can finish a Templars PT with Anders. I probably would kill him rather than have him side with me.

1. TL;DR... Just kidding. The whole '"don't hate me, it's for science!" thing. As I read that I had visions of Anders walking in on Hawke cheating and Hawke immediately yelling that out.
My first play through (mage) I had no problem siding with the Templars. I had up till that point made such a mess of trying to be a 'good brother' to Caver that the second Caver questioned me I flip flopped to the Templar's side. Anders got the murder knife that first play through (I swear he was asking me to end his misery) but try as I might I can't do it again.

2. As someone who dose well in school but bombs on tests that thought is seriously creepy.

3. Every once in awhile I hear a song that reminds me of Anders/Dragon Age. I've even started a play list so thanks for adding to it.

Hmmm, maybe something got bugged in that playthrough of mine, then. According to the Wiki, there's something like 5 major "decisions" where you have to side with the templars in order to get that achievement (turn in Grace & Co., make Feynriel go to the Circle in Act 1, side with Meredith at beginning of Act 3 argument, convince Samson to be a templar again during "Best Served Cold", etc.). I basically did all those things except tranquil Feynriel and I still didn't get it. So, I'm taking massive doses of Pepto Bismal to ease the indigestion this gives me and am going pro-templar at every available opportunity. Don't want to have to do this playthrough again, honestly.

I will, however, never complete full Anders rivalmance with a Templar ending. Not even For Science. Just can't bring myself to do that. Ever. Rivalmancing itself already hurts enough as it is. It's like having the decision to let Anora execute Alistair if you put her on the throne alone. Yeah, you can do it... but why would you want to? *wibbles*

@DragonRacer: A pro-templar PT is one of the most heart-breaking things you can possibly do. I did one once, for science, even making Feynriel Tranquil, forcing hopelessly broken Anders to side with the templars, and killing the mages who begged for their lives. When I was done, I was full of such self-loathing that it triggered a depressive episode that lasted for several days. I can't even bear to look at that Hawke's portrait anymore. I know, the idea of feeling real guilt over something my character did in a computer game is insane, but sometimes, it's hard to step out of the moment and realize that. And then a virus forced me to reinstall DA2, I lost the achievement, and now I have to do it again. (sobs)

So, to summarize, I feel your pain. Have kittens. They make everything better.

Huhn, I think I've noticed that tendency of Anders to pull that crap, too. I just didn't know what I was looking at at the time. Carver will do it, too. It's same thing Zevran does in DA:O. Whatever's pounding the Warden/Hawke they head straight for it.

Anders, dear, you're not a tank or a rogue.... stop that.

The whole '"don't hate me, it's for science!" thing. As I read that I had visions of Anders walking in on Hawke cheating and Hawke immediately yelling that out.

Just remember... what you do in a For Science! playthrough... stays in the For Science! playthrough. ;)

Seriously though that rivalry PT I did where I was a complete douche to everyone and rivaled every single companion was horrible. I felt so hated, so abused verbally and mentally by my companions I really didn't want to finish it. I was like.. "Man, you guys suck.. why are you following me again?" It was hilariously tragic, but I felt some real guilt too.

With the Templar siding I can look at it rather objectively and not feel guilty. What made me feel the worst was how my companions all hated Hawke so much, but still followed her for some random reason. I honestly thought by the end of it all they just hung around me because of fear more than loyalty, LOL. Either way it is not an easy thing to do.

Anders Templar ending is seriously tragic. I don't really want to see it. Just like I will never turn Fenris over to Danarius I just don't want to let Anders side with the Templars. It is just incredibly depressing and there is no real reason to do it other than to watch Anders suffer. As I said I think I would rather kill him than watch him fight the people he wanted to protect and free and then probably kill himself afterwards anyways. No coming back from that.

I don't do For Science playthroughs anymore. I have such limited time to enjoy games, I'm not going to waste it by doing a playthrough where I hate myself or feel immensely guilty over the choices I make. Plus, there are some choices I just don't see the logic behind no matter what kind of character you play. Like siding with the templars. Anders blows up the Chantry, so Meredith holds the Circle responsible. How much sense does that make? And why would somebody whose father and sister were mages--who might himself be one--agree to the wholesale slaughter of innocent men, women, and children who had nothing to do with the reason the Right was called for? I can see killing Anders in this scenario. I won't do it because, again, it holds no appeal to me. But I can see the logic there. Siding with the templars, though...nope, to me it makes no sense.

And to keep this on topic, here's a commission by the wonderful Choowy for a scene from my last big fic, A Sea Without a Shore.

Sorry if this is an offensive interpretation of something that shoud be beautiful (the art is beautiful, even if it is disturbing). It's just that I can't read Russian and the translation Google gives me, "For a fanfic" doesn't help much.
