Don't get me started.

There was a time when I was all about the sex. Seriously. But now? Forget it! Do you want the romantic content of your game to be nothing but

Cross-dresssing dwarf: Hey, sugar.
PC: I'd hit that.
Cross-dressing dwarf: 40 silver
PC: (zipper sound)

Fine by me!:wizard:B)

C'mon! And that was actually 75% more dialogue than they had in a typical Blooming Rose Encounter!

I know, which is why I say The Pearl>>>>Blooming rose.

But for me, romances aren't that important, and I'd probably be happier with a brief, but ill fated love affair than a long drawn out one that makes little sense, or holds little interest. Romances might be an aspect of a character I am playing, but are not that critical in a good story, or for an interesting character. If they couldn't make them unique or interesting, I'd prefer they left them out.

And stuck with inexpensive, meaningless encounters in your nearest house of Vice. B)

Actually, I find it difficult to find a long story engaging if it doesn't include some form of romance (excluding short stories, because I can think of many counterexamples). It's specifically the length of the narrative that makes the difference. Doesn't have to be a full-blown, dramatic, angst-ridden affair or a syrupy "happily ever after" deal. It could simply be a passing mention of one of the secondary characters having a happy family life (as a stabilising force to counterbalance whatever's going on in the main plot, for example), or a past relationship that didn't end well; an ill-fated love affair, as you put it. I could probably count books and films I genuinely loved but which didn't include any kind of romantic relationship on the fingers of one hand.

I guess I just consider it as an essential element of a fully rounded character. Makes them more human.

Of course, if it's a badly written romance, it doesn't enrich the story. It's just that the solution isn't necessarily to remove the romance. It could simply be to write better.

This is relevent to absolutely nothing we've been talking about, but I have this sudden desire to write an AU fic with the DA2 gang having a pizza party at the Hawke mansion and everybody squabbling about what toppings to order.

Anders would probably eat anything you put in front of him, but if he got to choose, he would probably want extra cheese. He is Fereldan, after all.

Aveline would probably go for the veggie pie. It's healthy and not too spicy.

Bethany woud go along with whatever everyone else decided. She doesn't like to make a fuss.

Carver would get the meat-lovers' special, with extra sausage.

Fenris would probably like anchovies and black olives. It's a Tevinter thing.

Isabela likes sausage. She also likes clams, though, so it would depend on her mood. Whichever she ordered, though, she'd be sure to make a joke about it.

Merrill would want pineapple. She's not afraid of the unusual.

Sebastian wants plain cheese, nothing exotic.

Varric likes his Chicago style with sausage and peppers.

Hell, if no one else wanted it, I would just steal Varric and have some Chicago style pizza with him. It would be glorious. And hey, that's a ton of food per square inch, so I think Anders would be in on it too. I would be all about a pizza party with Varric and Anders.

Pizza parties inevitably turn sexy right? Right?

Oh, that takes me back to my uni years (not that it was that long ago...). Nom nom nom!

But to keep this on topic, Anders would probably wolf down his own pizza, then finish whatever anybody else left over too. Grey Warden appetite and all that.

The more I think about it, the more I just want to steal Varric and Anders away from the sadness that is DA2 and get an apartment somewhere. Seriously... the whole "affable, flirty, platonic best friend who is also a writer and who gets along with your kind of troubled but passionate boyfriend" thing sounds like it would completely fulfill all my social needs for the rest of my life. Damn fictional boys, why must you be so fictional.

Pineapple pizza is unusual in New Jersey. Actually, it's pretty unusual anywhere in the U.S. that isn't the West Coast. New Yorkers have been eating regular  pizzas (tomato, mozzarella, onions, peppers, meats) since around 1900, but the pineapple pizza in the '50s in the Pacific Northwest. You'll have a hard time finding it at all on the East Coast.

We don't really do sweetcorn on pizzas, either. The only time I had it, I was staying with friends in England. It broke my brain.

Sorry for the derailment.

Pretty much this.

I sort of worry that my Hawke's ability to handle Anders' crazy is directly impacted by her access to Varric. So, in other words, he can never leave her side. She and Anders came back to Kirkwall and are hiding in the cellar during Cassandra's interrogation.

I would like to imagine that this is exactly what's going on at the end of DA2, but Varric pretends he doesn't know where Hawke is. Once Cassandra leaves, he goes back to Isabela's party ship where he lives with Anders and Hawke. They sail the seas together where no one can find them. Hawke and Anders lounge in snuggly cardigans, while Varric tells them delightful tales.

Cuz, you know, the alternative is that Varric really doesn't know where Hawke is and Anders is dead in a ditch somewhere.

I think I'm going to have to add Varric to my "secret post-game A-team" group. (Warden, Zevran, Anders, Hawke.) For game balance, I think I have to add in Sigrun, too. This is getting better every minute.

NOOOOOOOO!

Varric definitely knows where they are. He was on his way to pick up Antivan take-out when Cassandra's thugs caught him. He's dragging his feet in the beginning because he's upset about leaving his dinner on the side of the road.

I agree on all counts, and throw in Fenris and Shale as well. Need a dose of grumpy snark in there too.

Come to think of it, yes, chicken and sweetcorn is a British thing. 'S good though (also a Brit expression).

I'm still holding out for an epic A-team in DA3. The Warden and company team up with Hawke's crew to take on Flemeth. It would be awesome.

Don't let me down, Bioware!

Oh my god, the universe would implode. Whether from awesome or from the sheer amount of Dysfunction Junction, I'm not sure.

...That reminds me, I'm going to have to write that 'family outing' fic with the Cousins Hawke and Amell, one of these days.
Ah, there's nothing like a cheerful romp in the countryside with a couple of apostates, a cranky templar, a possessed revolutionary and a pride demon. What could possibly go wrong?

Janders: HOGGING THE FRIED CHICKEN IS NOT JUST.

Out of curiosity, who's the pride demon?

Just don't forget Varric. No family outing is complete without a dwarf lounging in the shade, wondering why people go through all the trouble of packing enough food for an army, lugging it halfway across the Free Marches, and sitting in an ant-infesed sand pit to eat it when they could have rented a banquet room at the Blooming Rose with much less effort.

See, when you say "ant-infested and pit" it makes me wonder if they are giant ants, and then my muse beats me over the head with a vase and kidnaps me, and my bills don't get paid because I need to write this oh my god.

Ants. ****IN' ANTS. :C

Lol a pizza party with Da2..... oh the possibilities.

As much as I would like my warden reappearance... wasn't there something about the wardens story being done? I hope for a cameo at least but I am not going to get my hopes up for my epic team. Hell I doubt the Da2 chars will get more than a cameo in da3. Forever sadness.....

On a much less depressing note... why can I not see Anders eating pizza but totally nom boning all the buffalo wings in sight?

All the Dragon Age protagonists' stories end with their games and those games' associated expansions, as far as I'm aware. That's why I don't expect them to return in game, and instead they return in off-camera daydream adventures... which are so much more varied, intimate, and spectacular than a game is capable of rendering. There was the time that Mahariel killed an ogre with an acorn... good times.

There are so many possible fates for companions, so many possible different love interests, so many different possible Wardens, that really including them ever again would be almost bound and guaranteed to be a disappointment.

On a totally random unrelated note: I'm having a weird problem with the K!Meme. I'm refreshing a *ahem* particular story like once an hour, and sometimes no new updates show up... until suddenly it turns out there was an update like YESTERDAY, and there are already twelve hours worth or replies, but they didn't show up the other TWELVE OR MORE times I've refreshed since then. It's infuriating! Anyone have any idea why that happens?
