Are we actually in Orlais or just at some Orlesian Noble's party? I want the shoes as well...

I was under the impression it was actually in Orlais, but it could just be a party.

Orlais is quite some distance away. I don't imagine they'd want to ruin the thrill of visiting another country just for the sake of a 2-10 hour DLC. More likely, it's a party on a noble's estate. I seem to remember somebody saying that we won't actually be leaving the Free Marches until DA3, though we will be traveling to different locations within them.

Though I could be wrong.

I do not want the shoes. I can get behind the idea of some nice garb for Hawke, and the idea of seeing our companions in anything other than their usual attire is intriguing, but man, I SO don't want this to be about the shoes. Sorry, I'm one of the people who wanted to strangle Leliana.

I'm over here in giggle fits imagining Anders in court attire.

Hawke: Just put it on, Anders. We have to blend in.
Justice/Anders: I WILL NOT WEAR SALMON! IT IS UNJUST!
Isabela: It goes with your eyes.
Justice/Anders: IT DOES NOT!
Isabela: Sorry, Hawke, I tried. All yours.
Hawke: By the way, that ankle-length skirt really suits you.
Isabela: (voice like daggers) You say the sweetest things!

Edit for ToP: I thought it was appropriate.

I don't want the dlc to be about shoes. I think that would bore me, but I kinda want a complete orlesian outfit. (We properly won't get that thought.

Oh and nice fictive banter. I wonder if our companions will have to dress up as well.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love Varric to bits and pieces.
But he virtually had no character development or progress, simply being the awesomeness that he was throughout the entire game. That's not inherently a bad thing, and certainly not in Varric's case.

I forgot about the birds in the hair thing. Did she ever mention anything else bizarre? I only remember that and the shoes.

She mentioned the plateau shoes, but that was so ten years ago.

Pretty much all my Hawke's have pretty short hair, but I want them all to have a beehive hairstyle while there.
Must look the part.

Shoes or not, the one thing I hope is that we don't get too many HORRIBLE fake French accents. Like Marjolaine. Or Isolde. At least Leliana's accent was real.

But to get back to clothes, I'm trying to imagine:

1) What kind of clothes Orlesian men would wear.

2) What Anders would look like in non-hobo clothes of any kind. Especially of the frumpy, XVIIIth-century-France variety, like that image PuppyFlavour posted on the previous page.

That, in and of itself, does not a Mary Sue make, though.

Especially Garrett.
Or it would be Adam, in my case.

I think I migh have to do a sketch of Hawke and Anders in dance costumes as therapy for what I saw in the BioWare Pulse episode where they talked about the new DLC. The character looks exactly like Felicia Day. The Tenth Walker comes to Dragon Age. (sigh)

It needn't be so bad. Yvonne Strahovski both modelled and voiced Miranda, if I recall correctly. You know how marketing is - they're probably trying to use Felicia Day's status as a rising star (or an already star, not sure just how popular she is) for all it's worth.

They should give us options. Some fancy pants for lady Hawke and super ruffly dress for dude Hawke. And of course ridiculous hair, shoes, and birds for everyone. Come to think of it, and Orlesian party might be one of the few places where Anders abundance of feathers wouldn't stick out.

There's a YoutTube video of her talking about creating the character. It really was that bad. Massive self-insertion going on. I know what they're trying to do, but it's turning me off. Bigtime. My least favorite race/class combo combined with my least favorite character elements? And all that as the entire focus of one of the few story DLCs DA2 will ever see? At this point, I'm not sure that drawing Hawke and Anders in ballgowns is enough to get me over this disappointment.

By all means, enjoy the DLC, if you can. I'm not out to stomp your buzz. I just wish they'd cared more about making something less gimmicky.

I saw the youtube thing as well... The eye wink her character did was almost enough to make me instantly hate her. I just has this stereotype of how this Tallis person is now and I am not liking it.
I am, however, looking foreward to new party banter and more dragon age 2Posted Image

What I fear is that she will be the elven woman Li in da3. There is a good chance of that which means that there is a good chance that two of the companions in da3 will be Cassandra and Tallis... Can't say I am looking foreward to that.

Naturally, I would rather have DA3 companions that don't make me want to beat them over the head with a shovel. It kind of goes without saying. But, if there have to be DA3 companions that make me want to beat them over the head with a shovel, I'm OK with them being the female LIs. Isabela is the first female romance I have ever been able to play, across every unmodded BioWare game I've played since BG2. Even modded, the only female romance I have ever been able to complete apart from Isabela is Dynaheir in the BG1 NPC Project. Unapologetic sausage-lover here. So yeah, as long as they aren't mandatory companions the way Tallis is in this, I'm content to let them rot in camp. I just got really lucky that I found all three females I found all three females in DA2 so easy to get along with.

Edit: Yami, I like the way you think. :)

As a straight female I admit that I care more about the male Li to be interesting than the female ones, I have liked all the Da females so far so I guess it is fair enough I am out of luck in da3.
Isabella took sometime to grow on me, but I am beginning to appriciate her. Aveline is slowly losing my respect each playthrough, though. Leliana also lost me in da2.

I must admit that any male Li will have a hard time in comparing to Anders, though. But I expect bioware to positively surprise me or I... I makes tons of thread about how da3 is inferior to da2. That is normal procedure, right?

It seems to be what I've been doing, ranting about this latest DLC. Posted Image

I guess I just resent being offered somebody else's fantasy instead of an adventure starring the cast we have already come to know and love. Hey, I like my Hawke as much as is healthy, but I would totally expect players to balk at the idea of shelling out $10 just for the chance to adventure with the guy. He was never intended to be anything other than Hawke, the star of the tiny little fanfic he lives in. He was never designed as support character. That's what followers are. They're support characters, designed at the outset to focus the spotlight on the PC. And that's where have a problem with Tallis. She's a fan-made original character, and the star of a web comic. She is also a character whose Sue-like tendencies are apparent in a 5-second video clip.

But I've said more than I should on the subject. I needed to vent, and I thank the Anders thread for letting me do that without condemnation. All done now. Posted Image

thank the maker for this thread - I swear it's the only place on here one can have an actual discussion without it descending into trolltastic vitriol.

I'm on the fence a bit about this one. I like Felicia Day, but this character does (on the very limited info we have) look rather self-inserty. Legacy grabbed me and pulled me in from the moment it was announced. This, not so much. I'll give it a shot though, see what else is revealed, and I'll probably end up getting it - more DA2 is always good.

On the topic of Anders, I realised something rather odd. I hate cheesy sap. I hate star-crossed lovers. I hate angst. I adore Anders. And his story. Gah.

Pretty much how I have it Tyrium. I took me a long time to figure out what it was about Anders that drew me in, and apart of the competelte crazyness, I think it is his passion. I simply love how passionate Anders is about mages, so I swallow his cheesennes without problem because it just... fits Anders.

This is about how I decided things were for me. I like a bit of angst, but not on Anders level. Somehow the cheese and the angst and everything else just works with Anders though. It fits perfectly with how passionate he is and his passion is the main thing I liked about him in this game.

Seriously, since I heard "Orleasian party", I've not been able to get rid of the mental image of Hawke and Anders tearing up the dance floor in some hot delicious tango. ... I feel the urge to draw that. *sighs*

Fascinating what the Anders thread can do to a person...

I mean, I never liked Tallis to begin with. Right after reading "Felicia Day plays Tallis and she describes her character as headstrong and sarcastic, saying that she wanted to bring a modern sensibility to the role", I thought "oh, PLEASE! And let me guess, gorgeous, witty, cute and tough and hey-guys-I'm-a-babe is also on the list?"

But now I'm close to going overboard with my dislike for her, after reading the last three pages of the Anders thread in a row. Tallis will take up a companion slot? WHAT? I loathe having a character forced upon me. Especially when it's a girl. It makes me feel a little guilty at times, what with female solidarity and all, but I have that eliminate-all-female-rivals killer instinct in video games, especially if the LI happens to be around.

berelinde wrote...

This is a major failing of mine, and I know it, but I am a lot more harsh and judgmental toward female NPCs than I am toward the boys. I know it isn't fair. With DA2's females not provoking any eye-rolling at all, I thought that maybe I was past it, but I'm starting to think that maybe they were simply well-written enough and balanced enough not to
steal the spotlight from the other NPCs or from Hawke. Now that I see the FD trailer, it's all coming back to me, and I find myself thinking "Oh, dear. It's going to be the Tallis show, isn't it?" Maybe I'm wrong.I hope I am. We'll see.

I can relate, berelinde. Killer instinct in my case. And then there was DA2, and I loved all the female characters to bits and pieces (even Merrill, who is SO annoying that I have to like her). I had hoped I was somehow "cured". But here we go again... I need to stop ranting.

The setting is awesome though, mind you. Reminds me of Hawke's comments when he sees the letters in his library "Another invitation? How many noble partys are there in a week?" And now a lavish, decadently decorated Orlesian mansion? That does have intriguing, romantic appeal. Gee... if we get one fancy dress for Anders and only ONE little quip between Anders and Hawke. That would so totally be worth it.

Hawke: I was under the impression that you had a liking for dressing... unusually.
Anders. Unique, Hawke, maybe even extroverted. But this is simply humiliating!
Hawke: Justice disapproves, I take it?
Anders: Oh, just shut up. I'll be over here.

Gave up on trying to get the scanner working, so fiance took a pic with a digital camera. He's uploading the images onto the computer now. A few things wrong with it, obviously. One, I can't draw. Two, I couldn't find any real pencils, so I had to use this weird all-graphite shader-thing with a quarter-inch thick point, so Anders's face is a little screwed up. Three, the Hawke I drew is Iain, pic to the left of this post. So he ain't the most masculine-looking Hawke out there. But the dress (and Anders's fanciest terrorist coat) turned out great!
