Sebastian is looming over your shoulder the whole time you are talking with Anders, after he blows up the chantry. He practically right on top of you. Everyone else knows to go away but he clearly can't take a hint. For a chaste Prince he certainly has no sense of personal space.
I'm pretty sure Jennifer Hepler wrote Sebastian, it bewilders me that she can write my one of my most beloved and one of my most hated companions. And while I'd really like to say I don't like him because he's "preachy", Anders is just as preachy with his mage talk. Sebastian is a pretty intresting and decent character, if you think about him for a while. That doesn't mean I'm going to bring him around everywhere I go or try to hate him less...
So I basically have no reason to hate Sebastian, other than he has Andraste's face on his crotch, which is reason enough for me.

I didn't see it as that bad. Regardless of how you come to get rivalry with Anders, from the dialogue it seems like you don't have a problem with Circles but you can tell him that you agree with his cause but not his methods which would also cause friction. It doesn't mean that they hate each other or anything like that and my Hawke would definitely not stick around for mere animal attraction or co-dependency given how difficult the relationship ALWAYS is even if you're the world's biggest supporter of mage rights and thinks merging with Justice was the best idea Anders ever had.
I know what you're saying, and rationally, you're probably right. I was speaking more from what I was feeling as I watched the whole thing unfold. I started the character in question specifically because I wanted to see the rivalry romance path with Anders and how it played out, so maybe that's the problem; I wasn't as invested in her from a story perspective so much as an experimental standpoint.
She was a mage as well, which added an extra dimension of tension between the two. There are finite conversations you can have with any of the characters in-game, and in the Rivalry romance path, during at least 3 of them Anders makes some off-handed comment that involves killing you. By the time Act 3 rolled around, I personally just could see no good reason why these two people would stay together when they seemed to have zero common ground between them, unless there was some utterly base and selfish attraction. It felt angry, dirty and cheap, and like I could have picked up something healthier from the Blooming Rose.

A question for the thread: Would your Hawke ever offer to be a vessel for J/V, in order to free Anders of his influence?
Knowing full well ahead of time that it's a deal with the devil, that J/V could change unpredictably, and he could change Hawke unpredictably, but Anders would be completely free of his influence. Would your Hawke do it, even if Anders protested?
What if the deal had the potential to make Hawke more powerful, whether as a mage or a more physical class?

A convo with Anders if you're a blood mage would be awesome.

I have a feeling this has something to do with the way that specializations are selected, perhaps in a way that game mechanics won't allow you to check. This is just a guess, mind, I don't know if that's true.
Also, with skill reset items (Maker's Sigh), there's no guarantee that a Hawke who uses blood magic will stay as a blood mage - or you might take the blood mage specialization and never actually use any blood magic. From a gameplay perspective, it's tricky.
Oh, I understand why they couldn't necessarily do it through existing game mechanics, but based on Anders' furious reaction to Merrill's blood magic, I think having a series of convos where Hawke is a blood mage could even open up an alternate rivalmance, where instead of Anders wildly trying to convince Hawke to support the mages, he's trying to get her to stop sullying the name of mages everywhere by using blood magic.

Totally off discussion, since my brain won't process more sad, I wonder if Justice remembers the Warden-Commander at all? I'm imagining Anders and my Warden running into each other and Justice being all "I recall liking this one. We should keep it." and poor Hawke being bummed that the spirit possessing his/her boyfriend prefers someone else.

Anders> Wait, what were you doing back there?

Hawke> I tripped.
Anders> ... On a knife?
Hawke> Funniest thing.
Anders> ... Huh.
Sounds like something Shale would say. xDSurelyForth wrote...

What's funny is that fact for all his preachiness he's a horrible priest. He has so qualms about killing people so long as it's under the umbrella of justice.
And I noticed the personal space thing too. Even when you're romancing him he'll never touch you but he will still stand an inch from you and hover his hand over your shoulder. So odd.

I have been lurking the forums.... and this might sound harsh but I'm starting to believe that killing Anders is the "best" choice, atleast for him so he stops suffering. But oh god, either choice is sooooooo depressing.
Poor Anders.
