It is a bit quiet around here. I had to work so didn't buy MOTA early because can't play it anyways.

I always noticed the glowy sparklefingers thing, lol. He seems to do it when in contact with Hawke. Pretty sure it is a controlled thing with some magic maybe to represent his emotions and to visibly show his adoration/want. I figured he did it on purpose. Seems to perfect to be by accident.

Plus, I think he probably knows from experience how to add a little magic pleasure to his touch .. *wink wink nudge nudge* lol.

It'll perk up after the DLC is officially released.

I had every intention of passing this by. I thought that if I bought it at all, it would only be because I was deliberately trolling myself, and my eye-rolling muscles didn't need the exercise. But then, I saw a video that made me giggle insanely and I caved in. This is the Anders thread, not the DLC review thread, so I won't say more about my experience while playing, but I will say that I resisted the urge to bring Anders because I knew that I would not be able to restrain myself from posting spoilers if I did brng him along. So if I decide to play through it again, I'll bring Anders then. Of course, by that time, everyone else will have posted all the Anders-specific spoilery bits, so it won't come as a surprise. Besides, my game is still in Act 1 at this point, so no romances.

I need to get my new mage into Act 2 before the DLC. She's still really early in Act 1. Although I suppose it's not too vitally important since I plan on having her romance Anders and I already have my canon to drag into the DLC for that.

I think I'm on a "how come I've not noticed this before" roll lately...

Just got through the post-personal quest talks with Varric in Act 3...and picked up on him saying "it's been six years since I met you dragging your tail out of Bartrand's office".

So the game takes place over 7 years total? Not 9? I thought it was "arrive in Kirkwall > spend a year working for whichever group > act 1 spans a year > 3 year gap > act 2 spans a year > 3 year gap > act 3". I'm now confused.

The fact that the Wiki states the game spans over a decade doesn't do anything to help. Image IPB

And to make this Anders related, have some Justix.

I have a question for you Anders fangirls/boys, so I'm throwing this out to anyone who can answer. I've been made aware that the glitch that didn't let you convince Anders to side with the Templars has been fixed. Yes? No?

Anyways, if it's true I'm wondering if it's only attainable through rivaling him (romance or friendship path)? I'd like to re-do my main playthrough (who sides with the Templars) if I now have the option of keeping him alive, but I also befriend Anders and would like to know if I then have to be a giant d!ck to him in order for this to work.

Thanks in advance! I've tried skimming the thread but I didn't see this answered.

It is a little confusing. I think that the acts themselves are rather short - a month or two months, tops - and then there's three years between act 3 and Varric's interrogation (I think I heard that somewhere). So it's "arrive in Kirkwall > work for a year > act 1 > 3 year gap > act 2 > 3 year gap > act 3 > 3 years of mage/templar fisticuffs > Varric gets his posterior handed to him by Cassandra.

In that case, the game spans a decade (even if it is cheating a little) and the timeline fits.

I believe the ending is fixed, but only works if Anders is a rival. =]

Yes it has been fixed as of the latest patch. It is only attainable by rivaling him also. But, on my rival playthroughs, I've never been particularly rude to him, just direct. I find the aggressive options aren't as bad as the snarky in sometimes. XD

Aha, ok. Thanks.

From what I understand, it also results in him dying anyway.

Thanks for the fast responses!

My main Hawke is a mage who is largely pro-mage, but doesn't take sides in the Orsino/Meredith fight & ultimately sides with the Templars to try and stem the flood that Anders unleashed on the mages.

Rivaling him with this Hawke might be problematic, as it might force me into being rather schizophrenic to earn rival points....  :pinched:  Ah well, rather be schizo than have a dead Anders.

Yeah there is that "implied" bit. I hate it, and it prevents me from siding with Templars with most of my rival Hawkes.

Making a rivalled Anders side with the Templars has him saying something along the lines of "I cannot live past this". So...he'll be both schizo and dead, 'm afraid.

Edit: Oh oops, sorry, I didn't notice you meant your Hawke would be schizo. Then again, rivalled Anders is schizo too, so it still works.

Oh man I don't even know how I'd max rival him and side with mages. D: I've become an expert at rivaling him, nearly maxed by end of Act 1, but it requires her to be really pro-templar.

Oh, and one more quick question (sorry, sorry)! Do I have to be in a romance with him for this to work?

I'm trying to get all the facts before I delete my entire main playthrough to start over (I despise having multiple same-name saves).

No. But you have to help him in Justice, and you have to try to convince him to undo what he did in his Act 3 QB.

Lol, I think Tootles missed the part where we said that siding with the Templars would result in a dead Anders anyway...Bad surprise in the making right there!

By the way, if you rival Anders and then make him fight with you when you side with the templars, he will NOT be available for post-campaign DLC. Tried it on both characters who rivaled him, one romanced, one not. The post-campaign saves with friendship Anders (romanced or not) always have him available. I have NEVER executed Anders. So it looks like he really will kill himself after the battle with Meredith.

Pardon for derailing with this - I am attempting a rivalmance with Anders; never tried romancing him before and now attempting to (well it was Fenris all over at first.. and it´s hard to break the habit. I´ve been putting this one on hold for too long - the character is very intriguing).

I´ve been trying to steer clear of spoilers so I thought this to be the place to get me some answers from the thoroughly educated on the matter thankyouverymuch :)

Before the Expedition I had him as a rival - not maxed, but there. 50, 60 I think? It was stated on the abilities screenl (more exact numbers would be nice indeed). After, fresh in Act II after visiting The Estate /drumroll/ I´m wondering, did I take the meet up with flirt options too soon? It only grants me friendship.
I know I can look it up myself. But the accidental spoilers are...evil.

Worst. Ending. Ever. Yet strangely fascinating, and definitely pitch black. If that is indeed how they're playing it, then I give them props for doing it the right way.

Yeah, better kill him off, if you're siding with the templars. It's nothing but mercy.
What I don't like is the "You have to pay for what you've done" - on rivalry there should be a diffrent line. Like "Ok, if that's what you want".

:crying: OMG....see I haven't touched my rival that sided with templars since I finished her game. My other rivals always go mage at the end. The other way was just too dang depressing, even for me.

Ooo, that's pretty neat. I don't think I could ever to that. There's depressing and then there's wanting to gobble on prozac while crying into your calculus book and that ending definitely falls into the latter category for me.

Don't even get me started on the fail execution scene if romanced. I mean that had so much potential to be a HUGE tear jerker. But no, I did it for science with my rival Hawkette, and it was lame. She was just like "You have to pay!" *stab* then walked away like she hadn't been with the man for 3 years. She was more upset when she killed Wesley, whom she had just met. <_<
