DA:O didn't have me this hooked.
I feel extremely awkward, never had this same feeling with a book or a movie. Haha, I am so obsessed. Sometimes I'd just turn around and tell my bf "Man, so depressing..."
Now whenever I'm about to speak, he's like "so depressing, right?".

Ah... but the Fereldan circle's NOT free. Even if you asked for the boon. Alistair told Margaret, "Even I can't go against the chantry."
Huh. Because I had Anora as queen in my game, and the first bit of Ferelden rumor that Biff the bartender told me was that the Circle of Magi in Ferelden had been recently freed, and that nothing good could come of it. Weird. Maybe Anora just has more spine.
And I can't decide if I want both the Warden and Hawke in DA3. Mostly because if my Amell and my Hawke ever meet each other, they'll probably try to kill each other. And my poor Warden...my Hawke will probably win, as usually happens when a person with scruples fights a person without.

I almost always get a bit out of hand with my fandom, but this time does seem particularly bad. After all, it seems to be the first time it's actually driving my husband crazy. He has been teasing me mercilessly. "You do know it's a digital character, right?"

No, he seems to only say it when my Hawke falls. Party members you romance seem to react strongly to you falling in battle. When I heard him yell that I was quite suprised.
Awesome.

Well, my Al's probably catching enough flak because he's banging an elf mage on the side.
I'm pretty sure Moira and Margaret would go out drinking together, leaving Alistair, Zev and Anders blinking after them in confusion.

I had been listening to this song for about two weeks before the game was released.
It fits shockingly well, considering the end game.
Good Weather for Aistrikes by Sigur Ros
(If you don't like seeing boys kiss, don't look at the link)
I Slide Forward
Through My Head
I Think Half Way
Backwards
My Soul Still Sings
The Anthem We Wrote Together
We Had A Dream
We Had Everything
We Rode To The End Of The World
We Rode Searching
Climbed Skyscrapers
Which Later Exploded
The Peace Was Gone
Balance Leaks Out
I Fall Down
Slide Forward
Through My Head
I Always Return To The Same Place
Total Silence
No Answer
(But) The Best Thing God Has Created
Is A New Day

LOL THIS!
I took Blood Mage this time around (I'm being evil muahaha)... NOBODY notices.
I'm sad.
You can be a mage in front of the entire population of Kirkwall and still have Carver saying, "We should be careful."
It's like the biggest black hole in game writing.

Mine too. He was on the couch the other day while I was playing, and I had just gotten dumped by Fenris. I said something about it, and how I was going to run to Anders for consolation, and he said "You know... I could be your rebound. Just saying." I felt bad. Sort of.
But he went through the same thing with Alistair. He'll get over it.

She obviously doesn't get her wish if that hint at her disappearance holds any truth, however! XD So yeah, vast preference to continuing the Champion's story, or a new protagonist who's all about busting the Warden, Hawke, and Maric out of Flemeth's Gaol of Heroes. 8D

Man, people have mentioned Anders despairing cry if Hawke falls in battle. Now I wish my Hawke wasn't Miss Indestructible Two-Handed Warrior. Seriously, a high dragon tried to eat her and she barely got scratched. =(
I'm a very destructible 2H warrior - it's my weakest class, and I'm playing on hard. I (embarrassingly) dropped like a fly last night during a little misadventure with some shades (was on the Prime Suspect quest). Hmm, I did hear Anders yell something but couldn't quite make out exactly what he was saying due to all the noise. I just heard him shout Hawke and some other stuff that I didn't catch. Oh well, I don't expect that I'll have much trouble accidentally dying again at some point - maybe it'll be quiet enough to hear the whole thing next time!

This is me sincerely hoping for either continuing to play Hawke in DA3, or a new protagonist. I love my Warden, don't get me wrong, but she's the hero that ended the Fifth Blight - how do you top killing an archdemon and living to tell about it? She'd vastly prefer to retire in Amaranthine (or Weisshaupt, but her loyalties would be honestly torn between Ferelden and the Wardens) training new Wardens than go get herself involved in saving the world again. She obviously doesn't mind taking care of darkspawn troubles, though.

See, Anders is the first video game love interest who's monopolized my attention so entirely. Alistair was nice, and Garrus was great, but Anders...YUM. But I think as long as I remember who can give me actual physical snuggles, my boyfriend will just laugh and humor me like he always does when I'm in BioWare fugue mode

I didn't see it as that bad. Regardless of how you come to get rivalry with Anders, from the dialogue it seems like you don't have a problem with Circles but you can tell him that you agree with his cause but not his methods which would also cause friction. It doesn't mean that they hate each other or anything like that and my Hawke would definitely not stick around for mere animal attraction or co-dependency given how difficult the relationship ALWAYS is even if you're the world's biggest supporter of mage rights and thinks merging with Justice was the best idea Anders ever had.
I know what you're saying, and rationally, you're probably right. I was speaking more from what I was feeling as I watched the whole thing unfold. I started the character in question specifically because I wanted to see the rivalry romance path with Anders and how it played out, so maybe that's the problem; I wasn't as invested in her from a story perspective so much as an experimental standpoint.
She was a mage as well, which added an extra dimension of tension between the two. There are finite conversations you can have with any of the characters in-game, and in the Rivalry romance path, during at least 3 of them Anders makes some off-handed comment that involves killing you. By the time Act 3 rolled around, I personally just could see no good reason why these two people would stay together when they seemed to have zero common ground between them, unless there was some utterly base and selfish attraction. It felt angry, dirty and cheap, and like I could have picked up something healthier from the Blooming Rose.
But that's what the Rival!Mance so damn good, ESPECIALLY if you are a pro-templar mage.
Of course the relationship isn't healthy. But nothing that happens to Hawke or Anders is very healthy. One of her siblings dies, her mother is used in an experiment, her other sibling could die / be sent off / be imprisoned, and she's constantly hounded by corrupt templars & Maleficars. Anders is possessed, had an incredibly bad spill involving cannibalism, nearly kills people when pushed to the edge, and is ALWAYS on the edge since he's in the middle of a city that represents everything he despises. Neither of the characters are very healthy.
If there is anything I've learned, its that Jennifer Hepler is VERY talented at writing twisted, heart wrenching, cruel stories. So I wanted to get the full effect and get that mad tension and darkness she is good at.
Going Rival!Mance with Anders reminds you just how dark he is. I assume he doesn't kill a Rival!Hawke because she is in such good sorts with the Templars, that killing her could very well make him Kirkwall's number one target on the Circle list.
It requires a bit of imagination, but I always imagined Rival Anders & Hawke using one another in their relationship to keep eachother alive. A Pro-Templar Hawke would definitely have enemies in the Mage Underground that Anders could protect her from. Likewise, Anders needs Hawke to keep the Templars from gunning him. The way they use one another is just disturbing, but I much prefer a Wuthering Heights sort of fantasy relationship. It makes it so... disturbing and fascinating.
I had this argument with a buddy of mine, that there was no way to justify a Pro-Templar Hawke and still defend Rival!Anders for his actions and the romance. I wrote a lengthy character study on the two, and it seems well received.
But yes. At least once, everyone should try a Pro-Templar Mage Hawke rivalmancing Anders. Than, for the extra kick, Side with Orsino. It profoundly alters the way you see the game.

Regarding the Circle boon, didn't Gaider say that nothing would come of it because the Chantry wouldn't agree to something like that?
I've heard the Anders "No, don't be dead!" cry a couple of times. He sounds so heart broken there that I wished I could give him a hug.

Luckily for me I married a blond Englishman so often we like to play "the naughty mage and the hapless recruit" or the
"secret desiring demon and the upstanding knight?"

I know Gaider said that, but in my game, the Ferelden rumor mill claimed that the Circle had been freed by Queen Anora. *shrug* Maybe it's a bug, but it's in my game! So I guess it happened?
And I do still love Garrus to little bits. He is my favorite functional relationship. He and my Shep are wonderful for each other, without weaknesses when they bolster each other. Anders and my Hawke are my favorite dysfunctional relationship
