Cassandra interrogates Varric in Hawke's house, so I assume it the blast didn't affect it too badly.

Really? Cool.

Yeah, check out the scene at the end where Cassandra walks out of the building. It's your manor, Amell crests and all :D

Wait, I noticed that Varric was being interrogated in his favorite chair from the Hanged Man.  Did they happen to drag it over, or might we infer that Varric has taken up residence in the Hawke mansion and is keeping it safe for you?  :)

I've heard a crazy conspiracy theory that Hawke didn't exist, and was just a unifying character in Varric's fictional version of the ragtag group of companions who defended Kirkwall from the Qunari and such. Maybe the mansion was Varric's all along. XD

By the way, there was some discussion before of "if they did a movie who should play Anders". And I know Nikolaj Coster Waldau came up. I would like to throw my vote in for him as well. I know some of you know him as Jaime Lannister but this guy has a lot of range. There is a fan video that went up on the George R. R. Martin LJ pages showing what he had done before "Game of Thrones" to introduce people to him.

It is on YouTube and called 2 Good 2 be true. But it has some NSFW bits so I don't think I can provide a link to it. (The segments used are very short, mostly it is a wide range of his work from playing a dorky security guard to a scoundrel and a lot in between.) So if you only know him from Game of Thrones, I would suggest checking out his other work. I really think he could do the tortured Anders...Justice. Ha ha ha (pun so intended!)

Oh, and it occurs to me that they would not have to work that hard for a story.  They can just do Dragon Age 2...from Anders perspective.  There are so many questions we have about what he saw/experienced that we didn't see as Hawke.  It would be awesome to see them all answered, on the big screen!

I cast my vote for Joe Anderson (ha!) myself, if he wears pretty brown contacts.

Hmm he's not a bad candidate either. He has the hair and facial structure for it. I don't think I've heard his voice though. Better the person who can deliver those lines than one who looks closer but can't pull them off. Moot point I suppose unless Bioware gets some movie moguls interested. I hope Jennifer Hepler gets to write the script! It would be nice to prove that video game movies can be great, not just bad to okay.

Joe Anderson angsts well, and he can be really ridiculous when he wants to be.  He's English, too, and has a nice speaking voice, so he might be able to at least come close to doing Adam's work justice.  In all honesty, I think he looks like Kurt Cobain, and several aspects of Anders's design echo that for me, so that's probably why I see Joe Anderson as him for a movie role.

Modern AU Grunge!Anders ftw!

Hey has anyone gotten this dialogue with Anders in Legacy?

Anders: I've tried to forget about this side of myself. Justice is... so strong. Sometimes the Wardens seem insignificant. But seeing that poor bastard brings it all back. The Darkspawn taint. The call of the archdemon. It's inside me, as much a part of me as Justice.
(If Hawke has a humorous/charming personality)

Hawke: Ooh, baby. Tell me more.
(If Hawke has a diplomatic/helpful personality: )

Hawke: Maybe there's a cure.
(If Hawke has an aggressive/direct personality)

Hawke: Never bothered me before.
Anders: You should find someone else, love. You don't want all the ugliness I'm going to bring into your life.
Hawke: I'll... take it under advisement. Nobody's perfect.
(Or)

Anders: There's a lot of ugliness in my life. You should stay away from me.
Hawke: Not a chance.

Yes, I got it -the bold part. I remember exactly the lines, but I can't remember when in the story it happened or what triggered it.

Can't recall that I have, but then I usually do Legacy in late Act 2.

I do it right before the mess with the Arishok in act 2. I've also never gotten the carta banter about Sandal's possible heritage. Anyone got that?

Incredible art pic on Deviant Art with Anders

[img]http://anders-fanclub.deviantart.com/gallery/27641858#/d41yalp

The background looks so Spring-like. And Anders looks...happier for a change. Not so haunted.

Question:  I was just combing over some DA:  Awakenings videos for more of Anders old commentary and came across the Broodmother going on about "hearing the song again".  Is that related to the lyrium idol?  It has been a long time since I played Awakenings.

The idol isn't in Awakening.  The closest thing is probably Justice's lyrium ring, but that wasn't insanity-inducing and was just ordinary lyrium, too, not whatever the hell the idol is made out of (it's not totally clear if it's actually lyrium or if that's just what Hawke and Co. identify it as).

"The song" has come up whenever the taint is involved, too, because that's what the Wardens' Calling is--the taint eventually starts to poison their bodies, but they begin to hear the same "song" the darkspawn hear that drives them to seek out the Archdemons.  Chances are the Mother talks about "the song" because she was the first darkspawn the Architect cured and she's experiencing some sort of Calling herself.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if it's the same song in both cases, but I think the lyrium song and the darkspawn/taint song are different.

Sorry for derailing the discussion, but something just occurred to me. Anders is right. Yes, I know, we all know that, but I'll tell you WHY Anders is right.

Mage!Hawke and Bethany never succumb to demons. Why is that? Surely, of any mage in Kirkwall, they get attacked and cornered the most often. Right? And wasn't one of the objections to mages that when they were cornered they had a few more options than regular people?

I counter with this: the Kirkwellian mages turn to demons because they don't see another option. They're not really taught to fight. Yes, the Force Mage specialization is Kirkwellian, but just because you know the spells and the theory behind them, doesn't mean you know the practical application. Hawke and Bethany do. The mages who turn to abomination do so because they don't know any other way to fight, unlike Hawke and Bethany. They only know the theory behind their spells, not the practical application.

Had the mages been allowed to, or even encouraged to, know defensive spells like, say, Wynne (when you get her, she knows Earthquake and Stonefist and Rock Armor -- all defensive), they wouldn't be turning to demons in self-defense.

When you only know one way to address a problem, that becomes your only way to address said problem.

I've actually always wondered why our mages in DA2 could do cool flashy moves with their staves but all the other mages in Kirkwall can only zap people DA:O style.

That actually makes great sense, Sialater.

It doesn't matter how much the Gallows's mages know about the theory and application of their spells if they're never given the opportunity to put them into practice. It makes them vulnerable because they don't build up the proper stamina to cast without being given room to exercise that, so they feel cornered more easily and resort to blood magic and consorting with demons to make themselves stronger. And that explains why they DA:O mage it up instead of the staff twirling combat-ready casting we get to use.
