Getting ready to submit my Anders based story for the writing contest....:( Nervousness!

Me too!  Aggggg!!!    Well... mine isn't Anders based, but I do allude to him.  Couldn't write a DA fanfic without him in there somewhere!

I don't like my story's title (Crimson Snow).  The working title was better, but not the right tone for the story (A Lamppost In Winter).

Good luck!  <3

Good luck to you both!  I am in the same boat and about to submit.  I have a second friend offering to check it over right now.  As long as it gets reviewed quickly enough I might do a second revision but I think it is close to its final form.

As to the types of playthroughs, if you look earlier in this thread there was a post about Anders by the developers.  If you friend him, he comes to accept the merging of himself and Justice better, if you rival him, he separates more strongly from Justice.  As for myself, I will say there are tidbits that you learn running the templar side that you won't uncover from the mage side.  I did manage a templar run-though but I really hated it.  :/

Edit:  Oh my, I got the top spot.  Let me see if I can drop a pic in.

I am glad you liked the pic, nirvana6794! Well, I took the plunge and submitted my story for the contest. I did not use Anders name although I had originally planned to. Since I drew in a cannon side character, I realized they may or may not have directly met Anders based on who the player included in his/her party. So I referenced the events involving him but did not directly name him. (I also wondered if side characters would know who did it. If the Circle Mages were not out front but in their cells at the time they may not have gotten that memo.)

But I do believe some of the others on the thread did include him. If so, I'd like to read what you wrote. Message me if you want to share your story! I've submitted so I'm safe to share it with. ^-^  (Like maybe Slyborg??)

I know I included him, in a very vague way that only I know refers to Anders directly. And the protagonist of my entry is an OC, but a key feature of my postgame headcanon. I posted it (and the rest of that particular fic) and my other fics on my Tumblr. I'll PM it to you. : )

According to Asunder, people do know who Anders is, because he's expressly referred to, by name, more than once. I don't remember by whom, so it might not be totally common knowledge, but there are references to "the apostate Anders", even early on.

I can PM you a copy once my beta gets done reading it! My story is basically my fantasy for an Anders DLC with both Hawke and the Warden helping Anders and Justice to be free. I wrote it without including any of the relationships my Warden and Hawke had with him other than being his friend nor did I specify sex or fighting class so Hawke+Warden will be ambiguous.

Anyone else ever wonder how they could've used a PDA conversation option to enhance the characters and up the emotional impact of everything? I actually think about this a lot. Fenris being awkward and "what is hug?" once you get back with him in Act III. Anders being romantic and totally into PDA all through Act II, but he refuses to engage after his Act III quest, whether you help him or not. Merrill, on either relationship path, being all sweet and adorkable and youthfully enthusiastic about getting snogged in public. Isabela gets told off for getting too hot and heavy until she admits she loves you, and then she's more subtle (but not too much, because she's Isabela).

Yeah, I think about it, and we need more discussion here, because we're slowing down to a crawl. Anyone else have thoughts?

nirvana, I agree 100%. I really miss the interactions you could have in DA:O. I see Fenris being embarrassed , Merrill happily holding hands, Izzy patting Hawkes butt, and Anders being loving and attentive. ( until Act 3 ) Seb would keep telling Hawke not to touch him!

I think anything that adds to the game's relationships is a good thing. As awesome and expansive as The Elder Scrolls games are, there is a lack of relationships. And Fable's gimmicky relationships are annoying. I hope BioWare keeps it up and doesn't dumb them down anymore.

I'd love for an LI to touch my PC's shoulder lovingly once in a while or occasionally ask for a kiss.

I really wanted Anders to touch my Hawke's shoulder when passing her in The Hanged Man when he finished talking to Varric about the Black Marsh. I did love all his 'oh thank goodness your safe' speeches whenever Hawke escaped a bad situation. xD

I love this thread although for lack of knowledge (still have yet to replay Awakening and DA2), I usually just lurk. You guys are like the oracle for all things Anders. I admit I have read more fanfic about Anders than actually played with him (hrm, that didn't sound right). As far as I am concerned, it's all about the story. I play these games for the story and adventure rather than combat and tactics. I'd like to see less excessive characters, since when you think about it, if this was RL, you'd basically think you're travelling with a bunch of crazed nutjobs. Subtlety and tact is the key. After all, you don't really want to attract too much attention, do you? So, same issue with the LIs. I'm playing DAO now and the party banter is wonderful. For example my male PC just spoke to Isabela and got a scolding from Morrigan. Hilarious! Tiny little things do a lot for the romances. When I first played DA2 (I romanced Anders), the first real love-type dialogue (evil dialogue wheel!!!) was something very brash (forgot what). I mean, my Hawke just met Anders.... why would she say such a thing to him? She had little positive feedback from Anders and so there would be no reason for Hawke to already want to date him (unless you have the personality of Isabela). I was looking for romance dialogue or actions in between but saw none until far into the game when it was to confirm a relationship. But almost all attempts to speak with Anders till then were, "stop bothering me." So I really think a slow and subtle growth of the relationships (with all characters) should happen. Less concentration on quests and more of the in-between. Mind you, Bioware's games have been the best in terms of relationships from my limited gaming experience.

UGH.  I hated that scene.  When my Hawke was in a romance with Anders, and Anders walks by with nary a look ... and Hawke asks all dumbly, What was ANDERS doing here?  At least, I guess, in my head I could pretend that Hawke was just jealous of Varric.  He was all, "What you doin talkin to my man, dwarf?!"

@motomotogirl: xD Yeah, kinda a dumb question since Anders and Varric are BFF's and all.

I hated that scene too - at least for an Anders-romancing Hawke. It makes sense for a Hawke who isn't romancing him/is rivalling him. It's just so jarring, the way he hurriedly leaves when Hawke arrives, the way they side-eye each other as he does, the way Hawke asks "what was HE doing here?", the way Varric says, "Blondie didn't tell you?" and proceeds to tell you that Anders regualarly comes to the Hanged Man to hang out with him and Isabela, which APPARENTLY Hawke knows nothing about. (Not in my game - in my game she's there too, of course!) I'm thinking Hawke would have said, yes, well, I know *that*, after Varric explains about Anders visiting the Hanged Man all the time.

Such an odd scene. I ended up headcanoning that Hawke and Anders had had a massive row beforehand or something - allows for a kiss-and-make-up later on. But it's quite baffling really.

The unfortunate part is that we'll probably never know what got cut out and what never made it past recording because of the ridiculous time constraints put on DA2. For all we know, there was a physical interaction engine that as scrapped in the end, like Ser Pounce-A-Lot was.

Honestly, when I realized that they ditched the kiss-on-demand thing, I was shocked. It made the relationships feel so real and personal, and by the time I noticed it was gone I was already pretty involved with the game emotionally. It seemed sort of glaring, considering that they included it in Origins, which didn't have the same emotional impact in any way.

Just little things, even if it was just being able to squeeze your LI's hand or put your hand on their shoulder or back, would've been so great. Forget about being able to hug or kiss them, really. Just being able to touch them would've added so much to the game.

@Nirvana:  We could beg!!  Maybe they will give us the "outtakes" of their writing or what hit the cutting room floor effectively.  (I would feel like a Mabari begging for scraps. @-@  But I would SO eat it up!  Ha!)

Welcome, welcome!  I haven't met anyone mean in this thread.  Just lots and lots of fan love for Anders.

@All:  For the bar-room scene where Anders visits Varric and Hawke is all "What was Anders doing here?"  Consider this option:  Anders is noted as becoming increasingly paranoid.  It may be that Hawke is surprised that Anders was still willing to go out from Darktown alone.  (More of a surprise that he might not be as mentally bad off as he/she was fearing at the time, especially hearing Anders laughing for a change.)  :wizard:

That scene is actually a glitch.  You were supposed to only get that if you end things with Anders and he leaves the party after Dissent.

@Gyrefalcon: That's an excellent point and could very much work. In my headcanon he touches Hawke's shoulder and she squeezes his hand as they pass. Actually since Anders is always in my party I just imagine they went there together and he went to chat with Varric while she settled things with Isabela.

Really?? That ... makes so much more sense! I'll just ignore it in my Andersmancing playthroughs from now on, then. A bit like how there were problems getting Varric's Friendly Concern quest to trigger for any LI except Anders ...

Thanks for the heads-up!

You're welcome. It was jarring for me too. It would be nice if they corrected that in a patch.

I agree with everyone else. I mean, really, the look Anders gives you as you walk by suggests that things aren't going well between the two of you.

You are entitled to believe that  but its a known fact that its a glitch.

It was discussed way back when this thread started.

Its even mention on several past threads that list bugs.

You have the option of having Anders leave the Party in Dissent.

That scene is only supposed to come up if Anders has left the party. Its a glitch pure and simple.
