I've basically given up playing DA2 for Lent (and Easter feels like a VERY long time away) but I've been transferring all my save games to a new computer and just HAD to check that they had all installed properly, so I allowed myself to watch that oh-so-special Darktown scene.
Love. All over again. What's a girl to do?

LOL!

I have my main character's files saved for that scene too.

Such a shame that you cannot interact with Anders and get a kiss or go to "bed" randomly with him like you could do in DAO.

And don't get me started on his final converstatation when you side with the Mage's. Makes me wanna reach out and slap the writers each time I see it.

Hmm, yes. Could certainly do with a little less earnest talk and a little more we-could-be-about-to-die-so-let's-make-the-most-of-it smooching.

Srsly.  I plaid the Fenris romance (multiple times ) before doing the Anders romance, and in that Gallows scene, I was just like ... what the hell, BioWare?  Really?

Yes, I was frustrated, too, not even to get a kiss before maybe dying in the battle. :?

As I heard, there's an option to get a kiss from Anders in this scene. You must side with the templars, having romanced Anders at 100% and tell him to stay with you after the chantry bang. He will fight with you against the mages. In the last conversation before battle he will talk to you about Justice leaving his body after dying in the battle ... he will tell you that he'll love you forever ... and then he'll kiss you tender. But actually he kisses you goodbye, planning to commit suicide in the following battle ... because you have broken him, got him to fight against the ones whom he wanted to bring freedom to ...

So, if this is the choice ... I rather pass on the last kiss ...

Mmm, a slight aside:
I decided to do my best to make Anders in Skyrim. I mean, it's full of dragons after all and looks a bit like the Anderfels I suspect. I mentioned that Fenris' voice actor got to do some of the Imperial guard voices. (So if you want to hear a happy, non-bitter Fenris, take a listen!)

But now I am rolling in laughter from the ultimate irony! The voice of Meridith becomes the voice of Meridia (not similar at all, noooooo). And she is asking my Anders to go save her temple! Sooo, basically, it is like hearing Meridith ask Anders to rescue the Chantry from a defiler. I am glad I went with this character idea. It is sooooo funny now!

On a side note: these vocal bits would probably be helpful for anyone wanting to add a bit more variety into their video making plans. ^-^

On Topic: Cullen did say that Elthina was being cruel to string the mages along with the idea that they could win their freedom. But Elthina also makes it clear that breaking up the fight between Meredith and Orsino was about as much as she could do. Meredith is in charge of the military arm of the church so if she decides to ignore Elthina, Elthina can do little more than waver her arms around.

This plays out to its full measure in Dragon Age: Asunder the book. I think it gives a better view of what Elthina's limitation really were and what kind of fine line she was walking.

I NEVER side with the Templars, but I am aware of this scene-seen it on Youtube. I still think IF you choose (which  always do) runaway with Anders, he would show his tender/romantic side incase you all die.

Here is a sample of what could have been done.

Hawke: Then we will be fugitives together

Anders: I should have seen it sooner. All you did for me,
for the mages. I never thought in my life that I would find someone who believes
as much as I do in this cause.

<Kiss>

<Pulls away and looks into Hawke’s eyes>

Anders: We will fight for a world, were are children can be
born mages and free. Ten years, hundred years from now, someone like me, will
love someone like you and there will be no Templars to tear them apart.

Anders:  I love you
and always will. Please be careful for if you die tonight I will too.

May the Maker bring us victory or everything
else is meaningless.

I like Anders, but not the options you have with him. When you figure out there never was a potion, you should have an option to boot him then, and have him actually leave town - no chantry explosion. Even when he does blow it up, it irks me that killing him does not stop Meredith from annulling the circle. To me that made no sense, why anull the circle for something an apostate did? Should be able to kill Anders and go apostate hunting with Meredith and a few Templars, then have her turn on you over a non blood mage or a child who just discovered he/she had magic or something.

That would be so sweet and really romantic ... <3

I tried one Playthrough romancing Fenris and siding with the templars. After the chantry bang I asked Anders to stay with me but he refused ... so I sent him away. But later he returned and no matter what answer I gave to him in that dialogue ... it all ended up the same: I was forced to fight against him! I just couldn't do it ... I left this playthrough unfinished ... and started a new one, romancing Anders again and siding with the mages

Because she was looking for a justification for ROA since the very beginning of Act 3?
I've noticed that a lot of people miss subtle details that help to understand what was actually going on in DA2, myself included. Something like this (I'm Asherinka on the wiki).

Elthina was incompetent, period. And it doens't matter that she would have been a likely target for Meridiths anger, she should have booted Meridith out the moment she refused the nobles to elect a new Vicount.
It doesn't matter that the Chantry have lost control with their templars, they created the system in the first place, and as a well loved Mother, I doubt that many templars in Kirkwall would have sided against Elthina with violence, and then we have just talked about the mage/templar thing and have not touched the Qunari and Petrice situation at all.

I agree with this.

She also turned down the Divine's help to calm the situation.

I have no doubt that if Anders did not blow up the Chantry, Meradith would have turned on the Grand Cleric.

Meradith was nuts-plain and simple. She pushed the mages too far and they fought back,. Condeming the Chantry for the abuses the mages have suffered, is justification in my book.

If your going to have a military branch to protect the Chantry and the Circle of Magi, then you should take some responsiability for the actions that your army places upon its charges.

I wish I had the oppurtunity to ask the Grand Cleric, "So since your so high a mighty and close to the Maker. Does he allow mages to be raped, tortured and treated like prisoners or is this something you consider justification on treating people you claim to be the Maker's childern?"

I am fully aware of Meradith wanting to put the ROA in effect since the start of Act 3. But knowing this should have been a sign to the Grand Cleric, we need outside help, if she does not want to get her hands dirty. If you see a problem festuring, its best to take direct action and try to end it as quickly as possiable.

The explosion of the Chantry is not the cause of the war that broke out. Its a small piece to the larger problems that were festuring. IF Anders did not blow up the Chantry, no doubt Meradith would have went over the Grand Cleric's head and invoked ROA.

I, again, do not blame Anders at all for what he did. It had to be done. I do however blame Meradith and the thousands of years mages have suffered. Its not right to treat mages like criminals.

Bah, I'm on a rant now, I'll stop before this turns into a book.

Elthina's problem is that she is trying to be something she can't. Elthina can't be neutral because she is a part of the chantry which the templars untill the end of da2 is part of.
It is the same as if my bloodmage Hawke who have openly lived with Anders for three years tried to be neutral. It is not possible. By simple existing and living the way she are, she are a statement.
In same way, by simply having a the mantle of Grand Cleric Elthina have the job of a person who must act, and act according the doctrine or openly state that it is wrong, by doing nothing she is allowing Meridith to do whatever she wants and showing the templars who follow Meridith that Meridith is not being questioned.
Some positions or life situations simply does not allow you to be neutral.

I have been playing this game for some time and I got say
while I am happy to romance Anders at the same time I am pissed off about it.

To me it’s like a Twilight concept tossed into the game. I
honestly have no idea what the writers were thinking to do what they did. I do
not approval hundred percent of the whole Anders/Justice merger. I have a hard
time accepting that Anders would accept such a deal without realizing the consequences
of his actions.

In Origins, it was nice to romance someone like, Allistar.
Sure, he had issues but those issues were minor ones. The point being is you
had a rather “normal” relationship and after the night you slept with him (if
you continue the romance) you still felt you were together.

There are not a whole lot of wonderful options of who to
romance in the game.

Isabella- Total skank-I am not attracted to ****s.

Sebastian- He is so damn boring; I have to skip the scenes
talking to him because I nearly fall asleep. In addition, him being so churchy
just is not my thing.

Feneris- Hates mages, bad attitude and I am not into
romancing elves. In addition, he whines too damn much.

Merill- Dumb, blood mage and again I am not romancing elves.

The only person in the game I felt the need to romance is
Anders. Even then, the issues romancing him made me scream. The romance dialogue
plays out like a tragedy waiting to happen. You do not know when, but it is
going to happen.

The whole “I’m going to hurt you” or “This will be a disaster”
lines just did not sit well with me. I can see these lines being played out on
the rivalry romance path. However, if you are on the friendship path and want
Anders, there is no need to force these lines down my throat. I choose to be with
him, it is my choice, I know the consequences; please stop shoving it in my
face.

The dialogue when you first spend the night with him was,
well, romantic, I suppose. The problem I had with this was even at this point
the writers could not hit the “pause” button on the whole mage topic and allow
him to focus just on the moment.

Then you have the sex scene. I recall my first play through,
I let out about a dozen swear words and threw a magazine at the T.V. I have
been waiting since Awakening to sleep with Anders and all I get is my character
and Anders lying on top of each other-clothed.

I am not expecting a porn video,
but there was more shown during the Allistar and my character’s first night
then there was with Anders. Gawd, I would have sold my soul to see Anders in
nothing but his small clothes.

Furthermore the camera was pulled back so far
when they kissed or odd angles which also made me swear. Its as if the writers
want to show it but don’t want to show it. I have seen content that is more
sexual on daily T.V. shows then there was in this game. Bah! Talking about it
makes me so frustrated and turn green.

Afterwards, Anders was to stay with you and move in. However,
for some reason it takes three years for him to move into your home with you
(scratches head). It makes even less sense to give him a key to the cellar if
he is moving in with you. Uh, should that not been given to him in Act 1? At
least it could show how serious you are about keeping him safe and caring about
him.

Here are some options that would have been nice to have in
the game

*Able to talk to Anders at anytime you choose too. This way
you can get to know him more. In addition, if you want a kiss or a roll in the
sack with him you can do so. A step up from Origins would have been able to see
the scene of you sleeping with Anders, if you chose too.

*After the whole business with Ella, Anders wants to remove
the curse from him and Justice. This would have allowed a different outcome at
the end of the game. Doing this too would have an impact on your relationship.
This would also appeal to the fans or those who hate the merger or those who
are for it, given them an option to choose to keep Anders/Justice together or separate
them.

*Allowing more banter between Anders and Hawke while in the
party. Also having other party members comment on your relationship more.
Granted Varric and Merill ask about it but no one else does. I would have
assumed out of all people Isabella would have said something.

Sample:

Isabella: So, Anders, I hear that you dropped your anchor
into Hawke. I was wondering how Justice feels about it. Does he enjoy getting
involved? What’s it like for that spirit of yours able to enjoy the greater
pleasures of life?

Anders:  I refuse to
answer that question. My business with Hawke is ours only.

Isabella: Oh, come on now. I am curious if Justice enjoys it
or not.

(If Feneris is in the party)

Feneris: I really do not need to hear this. I have seen and
heard enough crazy things in Tevinter but this, is just bizarre.

(If Varric is in the party)

Varric: I have to say, Elf, I agree with you, this is bizarre.

(If Merill is the party)

Merill: Am I the only one here confused, I do not understand
what is being asked.

(If Avelene is in the party)

Avelene: I think it is best if none us know the answer, especially
me.

Anders: Can’t you people find something else to talk about
instead of Hawke and me.

Isabella: I could but my curiosity won’t let me.

*Your support of mages plays more into the relationship then
just the friendship bar. After you rescue Feneryal it would have been nice for
Anders to show how much he appreciates your respect towards mages.

*Instead of given him that amulet as a gift. I would have preferred
to give him a kitten from the litter, Merill spoke of or his friend from
Ameranthine shows up, says he/she can no longer care for Ser-Pounce-a lot, and
wants you to return it to Anders. I think the reunion of Ser Pounce-a lot and
Anders would have been adorable.

The problem I have with Anders is Dragon Age 2 is he seems
like a different character from Awakening. I still have a hard time trying to
convince myself he is the same character. I do not mind people changing like
people do in real life. I do however take issues when a character is changed so
drastically that it does not feel like the same character. And no, I am not
bothered by the voice change.

In my opinion, I would have been far happier romancing the
smart-ass selfish bastard from Awakening. Romancing Anders in Dragon Age 2 is
not exactly horrible, it can be too depressing at times but also somewhat
romantic. Given fans (like me) the chance to romance a character they been
wanting since Awakening and turning the character completely around is, just oh
so wrong. It is like a kid wanting a certain thing of candy and waits patiently
to receive it, only when the time comes, they get an apple with a worm in it.

Ooohh, yes! .... I totally agree with all that! I had the same feelings about Anders
and what the writers did to him in order to fit him to the storyline. That was no
longer Anders ... but only a character named so ... it hurts thinking about it! :(
