This. Also, I really hate that it takes Hawke THREE YEARS of LIVING TOGETHER to give him the key to the cellar. I would have given him the key at the beginning of the Act 1 break, romanced or not. It's so ridiculously convenient.

Agreed. Although, it would have to be the start of Act 2 since she didn't have the house yet.  I suppose he still could have snuck into the empty house to escape Templars.

I'm not even romancing him and he gives me that.  I'm SO convinced that no matter what he totally has a crush on Hawke, whether he/she goes for him or not.  *giggles*

Yeah, I feel like it's pretty safe to assume that Anders has a thing for Hawke no matter what you do.  That's especially obvious when you romance Fenris and get some dialogue and a bit of party banter in which Anders is very obviously jealous.  XD

Put me in the "Anders has the hots for Hawke, period" camp, too. I've done two playthroughs now without romancing him, and I had to wrestle with myself to NOT flip that romance switch partly because he is so clearly into Hawke.

One romance to go, Anders, then you will get all the Hawke loving you can stand, baby.

Yeah, I agree about Anders being smitten by Hawke no matter what. I kinda wish he weren't since it wouldn't be so hard to romance someone else. I like that Fenris and Isabela get together and feel bad when I'm off with Fenris and he's all jealous and stuff. Poor Anders :(

Anders is totally into Hawke, and I think from a game perspective, they did it that way, and made you notice, on purpose. Much like Alistair was tied to the major plot points in DAO, so is Anders tied to the major ones in DAII. I think the writers want you to get involved with those characters by making them stand out and showing they clearly have a thing for your character. After all, it has the maximum impact if your character is in love with Anders and then the Chantry goes boom. Maximum emotional impact, and it adds an entirely new set of complications regarding your final decision of Anders' fate.

That, and they like to make us cry ;)

What I want to know is why can Hawke use the cellar to get back into her estate? :D

Anders would think his man is being puerile while Hawke slowly amasses clothes/books/materials for him untile he realizes one day that he's still spending most of the time at the clinic, but he comes home to the estate. I've also got it headcanon that Anders found his idea for an explosion in one of Hawke's books on natural philosophy.

Aw, no way.  He obviously got the idea from Varric's "Hard in Hightown: Siege Harder", during an episode where Donnen Brennicovick had to flee from a massive explosion that destroyed the Viscount's Keep by body-surfing on a qunari.

Okay, this is evil of me... but... if you went with Fenris then, when he left, went for Anders... Fenris threatens to kill Anders if he ever breaks your heart. Well, he does, kinda, right? Shouldn't Fenris then do the "I'm gonna kill you bastard"? Or he's far too respectful to take the decision away from Hawke?

In a way, it is possible. It's would just take a lot of metagaming. Hawke would have to side with the templars, but let Anders go so Hawke and the team can fight him, and then you'd have to make sure Fenris gets the killing blow. Not that I would ever try it. I will have a Hawke who starts out with Fenris and ends up with Anders, but Anders will live in every playthrough.

That is so beautifully stated... wonderful.

Thanks! Posted Image I'm glad you like Kaya's reasons.

I can never flip-flop between them so I am never going to get that circumstance...
And *ahem* during my templar run-through, Fenris was my man and he totally killed Anders.  It was sweet in some way because my Hawke was completely "I'm not attacking him, I cannot do this to my friend" and then Anders froze her o.O and Fenris KO-ed Anders in 2 seconds flat after that.  (Mind you, Fenris is ALWAYS setup to KO anyone going melee on Hawke but whatever, it was SWEET damnit!)

It just occurred to me, that it would be interesting if Anders could resist Hawke in some variations of their romance.
Then again, I think that after hearing another "I'm a monster. I will only break your heart." my fem!Hawke would dose him and tie him to her bed, challenging his Warden endurance up to the point where it would be only possible for him to moan "Felicitate me".

I was thinking of the moment that deed is in her hand, which was at somepoint between Act 1 and Act 2. Off-screen, so there could be a random occurrence of Hawke waking up with Anders curled up beside her because he stopped by to chat with Sandal about enchantments and then it was late, so...

Re: Anders having a Hawke fetish - it really makes that "I have lain awake every night aching for you" line a bit worrying. If you don't romance him it's no wonder he blows up the Chantry. It's either that or explode from sexual repression.

Here's a video of someone friendmancing Anders with m!Hawke. I've never tried the f!Hawke one (mainly because I only play males), but just that Anders warns her beforehand not to get too close to him because he'll only break her heart (which doesn't happen with m!Hawke until Act 3), while he's a little happier to indulge in some early flirting with m!Hawke. Aside from a few special lines for both, there's also background about his past love that never gets mentioned with f!Hawke. It's up to you which way you prefer though.

Never played a male Hawke, so I never knew abt Karl. But I totally got the vibe that they were together. :P

I made this earlier but with out font.

I think you got a different copy of the book, because mine is just porn.

Not that I'm complaining. But the only explosions I got were of a far more, er, sticky nature.

On a separate note (because I just got home and am catching up on 18 pages of forum discussion) let me just say the rivalmance is cringing!! My heart can't stand Anders reading his manifesto to Hawke trying to justify his ideals. It hurts me extra that he DOES believe in the Maker, he just refuses to accept that He would make mages as they are and then hate them for it and set his chantry after them. Also someone said earlier that Anders is selfish and stuff because he used Hawke and then told her/him that he will always have higher priorities than her. That leads me to believe every style of playthrough creates its own alternate reality or something, because in the friendship romance Anders constantly proclaims his love and thanks Hawke for loving him and supporting him and my favourite line: "You are the most importaint thing in my life, but there are things more importaint than my life or yours" I think that says it all really. Its up to your Hawke to choose if he/she wants to bind herself to a person like that.

*squee* I love that line.  I so love it!
It's partly why I'm so swooning over him.  Partly why I can never even do rivalry (without romance)... I just squee whenever he starts talking like that.  I just wish he'd read the manifesto to Hawke either way.  I can see Hawke helping him to proofread and give him ideas and whatnot.  You get pieces of his manifesto anyway around the house... so... blah!

I feel like such an idiot. I only just remembered the Amell cellar entrance in Darktown actually IS -right there-, you know, right outside that clinic. I'd been idly wondering "wait, did Hawke spend the past three years having a cellar dug?" ... yeah. I would love to be able to take that shortcut to get back into Hawke's house, now.

Or picking it up, swooping onto the bed in bare feet, and reading dramatically from it from Anders goes "hey, lay off it!"

Until Justice comes out to play. Then he has to pass it back.

Yeah, I hate that. (Partially because I visit him the most in Act 2. Even when I don't actually have a quest to do so.)

Ewww.

I wonder if Isabela and Varric have written any "friend-fiction" about Hawke and Anders, like Isabela did for Aveline and Donnic?  I would pay so much for a DLC that simply added that banter.

Isabela: I've written more.
Varric: Yes!  ::reads:: "Justice is righteous... Justice is hard", the mage moaned as he pressed himself against Hawke's lithe form--
Anders: Andraste's great flaming ass!  What the HELL are you two talking about?
Isabela: Nothing!
Varric: Just a little friend-fiction.  There's a really good bit about your staff of vengeance later on.
Anders: I am both horrified and intrigued.

I know I went into the game planning on making my Hawke a foil to Anders. Goodnaturedly mocking of ideals is necessary for that.

When's the best time to make jokes? When things have gotten as miserable as they possibly can and they only look like they're going to get worse. If your lover is slowly disappearing, then the best solution is to poke fun.

Bethany says (I hear, I always do mages) that Anders reminds them of their dad. And if you pick some of the green diplomatic options, your mom will say you remind her of your dad. I always found that added an extra level to the relationship. Malcolm mighta liked Anders. What an odd, sad thought for Hawke.
