I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm curious, is the chance of a parent being a mage increase the chance of the child being a mage (i.e., it's a genetic trait)? If so, the Chantry would definitely get involved...

This is hard to explain but I will do my best to explain how
I see from what I gathered in the games.

If the family has magic in their line and one or both
parents are mages the chances are high to have a child with magic in their
blood. However, you do not need to have all these factors to play into a child
being born with magic. You could have one or all the circumstances of the
family and the parents and still not get a child with magic. While the chances
(as I said are high) the outcome is not a guarantee.

You could have both parents who are non-mages and have no
magic in the family line and still have a chance at having a child with magic.
How it works in Thedas is a bit tricky and hard to explain. According to Cullen,
it seems as though it becoming harder for them to keep the mages in “check”
because of the increase of mages being born in Thedas. Why this is happening or
what is causing it, is a mystery.

Ok....this discussion seems to have died...so let me ask a new question then.

How the hell did Anders make the explosion happen at the exact moment he wanted too?

I don't think they had digtial clocks back then.

Well it is very obvious a magical explosion since I doubt that even the Qunari's blackpowder is that effective.

I think his staff slamming to the ground.

In my eyes it had to be remotely trigged and not timed, because the timing was too perfect with Meridith, Orsino and Hawke standing right at the front seat and making it possible for him to hold his little speech and walk up and thus being the obvious supect which is his whole plan.

So I am betting the staff slamming.

Considering that the ingredients you collect for him before the big bang is the recipe for gunpowder, I think that it's at least part of the explosion, if not all of it. The other part being fancy, pink magic.

I'd agree that the staff slamming is what sets it off, though. And that it's tied to Anders' staff, specifically. It would just be awkward for everyone involved if one of the mages in the Gallows managed to blow up the Chantry by accident before Anders' big speech, otherwise.

Yeah, tied to Anders staff. I agre. And I also agree it is proberly a mix og a bomb + magic. But it is to lasery to be entirely non-magical.

I'd suspect that gunpowder is the reagent for the particular spell.  Magical explosive potion that requires gunpowder, rather than two separate non-magical + magical explosions.  At least that's what I imagine in my head.

Ha. That is true, but I am failry sure that Anders didn't invent the laser, so I am still saying it was a magical bomb. Made out of real non magical components perhaps, but it was definitly powered by magic.

I think it was gunpowder fueled and detonated by magic.

Ahh, OK, I see, thanks! I assumed the staff pounding on the ground was a gesture.

As with the explosion what was used, obviously what you helped him gather. But he also mentions he gather some of the ingredents already. No doubt he might have used some of Sandal's Enchanments.

You know I was digging around on Youtube, just to see what happens if you choose to kill Anders. Granted I would never kill him....anyways...

After you kill him Sebastian says: "It will not make up for what will happen, but its a start."

You know I am so glad my character is on board with Anders freedom of mages and being completely in love with him. Because I couild not even think of romancing an ass like Sebastian muchless killing Anders over him.

I really really wish you could laugh at his cheap remark of saying he'll find Anders, then you toss a dagger at the back of his head as he walks off. I may not like Merril, but Sebastian is the only companion that if I had the option of choosing to kill one, he be the first go. He really irritates me more so then any companion I have ever come across in any game.

The Exiled Prince is the only DLC I've ever wished I could return. There's very little in it that I found worthwhile (Leliana, mostly; and Seb's quests do pay well, at least).

Sebastian is not an ass. If my mother was killed I would feel the same way, justified or not.
That said Sebastian is pro-chantry to a degree which puts him in the characther I would never even look at category. If my Hawke had taken him the least bit seriously she would have killed him on the spot. Luckiely for Sebastians his threat rings hollow as he have yet to make any progress in retaking starkhaven.

No, he says that after you kill Anders. I don't blame him for doing what he did to avenge his own family. Despite what he did to avenge his family-outside of that he is an ass. I really don't care for characters who like to preach the Chantry to me in every damn converstation. Granted I am not against religious beliefs in real life nor do I follow them. I do however feel very against the Chantry and their hyproctical stance on magic. Also that damn Grand Cleric. I'll stop now or this will turn into a rant or a manifesto or both.

I do agree that I wish you could turn off "The Exiled Prince."

Considering that Anders more and less killed his mother figure I understand him. Sebastian is emotional. It is a huge part of his characther. His words are words of hatred because he is angry and hurt, and have always disliked Anders. I take nothing Sebastian says after the explosion seriously becaus he needs a long time to cool off and realize what he is saying. (Of course I could never kill Anders, so I am happy to see him stomp off in anger). I like Sebastian as a person, he is nice and wants to do good. Unfortunately he is part of what is an evil organisation and thus we will always be enemies, but he is a nice reminder that my enemies are humans too. The very fact that he is chantry makes him no-romance for me.

My biggest problem with Sebastian is actually his infamous discussion with Fenris where he wants to turn in the Malificarums. My Hawke is a blood mage. Which means that in a team of Fenris, Anders (who from my Hawke's point of view isn't a malificarum, but an abomination) and Hawke, Sebastian is talking about my Hawke. (At least that is such she will understand it). I have a hard time justifying not killing him there.

OK....I need to ask this...feel dumb for asking but, I am going to ask.

I decided to see what would happen flirting with Tallis once in "Mark of the Assassin"

Tallis asks "Just wondering if their is a husband behind your throne."

Anders: "Yes, Hawke, who is behind your throne."

What the hell does the phrase "Behind your throne" mean?

I Googled, asked my husband, dead ends all of it. Can anyone explain using crayons and paper. Sorry for asking a stupid question <hangs head in shame>.

I don't think there are any double entendres there. I think Tallis is basically asking "is there anyone special in your life?" and Anders' answer amounts to "yeah, Hawke, is there anyone special in your life? hint: he's standing right here! why haven't you mentioned that we're an item?!"

And really, if your Hawke has romanced Anders but flirted with Tallis, he's entirely justified (pun fully intended) in asking that.

To be more detailed, I think it's a subversion of the "behind every great man, there has to be a great woman" idea. Only, in this case, it's a woman who's in the position of power.

Anyway. I can only pick the first flirt. It is as long as I am willing to go for the jealosy banters... I couldn't even flirt with Zevran to hear Anders shot him down.

Normally my character would never flirt with anyone because she very devoted to Anders. I however chose to break that rule and just see what would happen. :D

I decided that flirting with a DLC character you are never going to see again doesn't count!

LOL! True, True.

Nice to see Anders be jealous and be so protective over you when/if you choose to let it happen.
