A lot of groups of people are treated badly in different countries and different societies. But to claim Bioware is making game about them... to me it's to be over-centric on yourself.

Good point.

What I like about a well written game or book is how it lets you draw parallels to your own life / reality, without actually being the same. It lets people reflect about issues that are very complex and nuanced, while still having fun. Tolkien used to say his books were not a "reference" to this or that, but that he loved how his books evoked memories on his readers. Not a top down mandatory comparisson like mages = LGBT or mages = Mentally Ill, but a way for people who see oppression in their lives to relate to the mages' opression. Be it in whatever form you encounter.

I was going to bring Tolkien as an example as I was reading first line, but you named him yourself.

Imo, well written games and books do not require any parallels and analogues. They just are.

One of worst thing I've ever read is "analysis" where LotR was positioned as figurative description of real life where "land of Evil on the east" was claimed to be USSR, same awful was reading BS about Narnia's Witch "representing" fascism.

Truth in there - is that DA2 indeed has "atypical" non-epic plot, which I prasied many times all over DA threads and will praise more. Outer "big bad evil" replaced with personal matters and social things. Straw braking camel's back - and no Archdemons needed to devastate the world.

ps: I've been looking for "Comandante A." pic to remind you that he was definetely not first known revolutionist in a history and that opressions happened all the time, but I found this one and just can't keep from posting it. :)

Not the most Comandante-ish look and Isabella's presence underlines pirate mood (with a cat as a parrot) - but thanks for the picture, it's great! :)

Yeah, I know. I decided not to googe it any further, because most of us here've seen that red+black+white Che Guevara-style collage.

Actually, he's much like that cat here, imo. Those two match perfectly. Both look pleased, lazy and just had something yummy for meal... and yet won't say no to some extra treats :)

...And you can just cut Isabella out, not to break the immersion, because he does not look in her direction anyway.. 8P

Did you get too upset by our favorite possessed mage's actions ?

Don't. Meredith had already sent for the Right of Annulment, and she was going to search the tower and find necromancy research in Orsino's quarters. Mages would have been put to death even without Anders forcing things. His surprise action saved some mages.

My Hawke did get pi$$ed at him and will be very cross with him for a while, but she let him live and joined his fight

PS: Did you see the news ? DA3 has been officially announced :)

Nay, I only got pissed at him cuz he didn't tell me what his plan was.  I did tell him that he might have made it harder for people to sympathize with his cause, but I stood by him.  My sister was a mage, after all, and a Gray Warden.  And I let him live...even ran off with him to make mage/rogue babies.  Disturbing thought, but there ya go.

And oh yes...I've already been putting in my opinions over on the DA3 forum here. :D

It's hard to tell what exactly was Meridith going to do, and how to act, but it is true. And it's directly in-game, though it's easy to miss. She did send for the Right of Annulement. Red templar at Courtyard (whatshisname, one whom you can trick about mages being dead during Thrask's quest) states this once you click him and says that "those robes gonna get what they deserve soon"(not 100% accurate quote). I'm not sure if there are more direct evidences. But this one is.

I finished my second replay yesterday night. And I'm very annoyed by the fact, that I suffered DAA import bug - I did not have Nathaniel or any other sidequests, and I'm not even sure there were any differences at all between this and my first DAO import (same warden, alive, female, noble, queen, DAA - Keep upgraded, City - defended, Architect -dead, Nathaniel lives, but was not in final party). Some metagaming suggests that Legacy recognized DAA import (the way Anders talks about Sigurn). But other than that - nothing. And Anders lines did not change at all(which I was hoping for, actually).

Could I miss something? Is there any kind of list that shows all of DAO vs DAA import differences?

As for emotions and thoughts - I enjoyed it second time, shame there was no "first impression" amusement, but I liked it. DLCs are good, and headcanon is strong. Sad it's finished... And I'm not ready for another replay yet. And not sure about where to move next... Tetris, Bookworm or Bejeweled, may be right choice, because I don't think I have room in my head for more big games and stories right now, not before they finish DA3. 8P May replay kotor or some other oldie-goldie...

Well...I have now started a second run through, this time with a very sarcastic mage. I'm....not sure about romancing the handsome possessed mage again. Maybe I'll just make myself draw it out longer...if I can control myself enough. LOL

Caelinn, oh, come on, why aren't you sure?! Surely, there can't be too much romancing Anders? For what it's worth, I romance him with a sarcastic mage and it's loads of fun, especially in MotA.

Wish I could answer but think you got it all. And Nathaniel... Some quests are easy to miss. He could be there. If he were there then DAA would influence conversation with Anders presence.

Some Anders pic for you :) (Stolen from Fenris tread)

Nope. I searched wiki and could not even find his sister that is supposed to start quest. I made several runs all over Hightown, Chantry and nearby - only person you could talk to in that area was Grand Cleric. So if she was there - she was hiding so very well. And multiple bug reported when you can't get this quest.

Shame it did not alter major dialogues. I was hoping to hear from Anders about my Warden Commander, or, may be more details about how exactly he met Justice...And also Alistair meeting - that "haven't you been a warden" banter happens no matter on import type, right? Could have said thanx to Alistair after all... 8P

Well, Anders do become a grey warden no matter what. And when they meet in Kirkwall with Alistair it the only strange thing is that busy king could remember familiar face. After so many years! Alistair has amazing memory :)

tehehe love that picture amirit!

Nrieh, if you see the dwarf asking you to find his sons then the import "didn't take". You always get a Deep Roads quest, Nathaniel if the import works, the dwarf kids if no import.

Caeleinn try romancing Fenris first then getting Anders on rebound. The dialog is priceless

Mmm... I did find myself wanting to flirt with Fenris.  This might be a good way to draw out my Anders love for longer.  I spent the better part of Act 3 only hearing "Your support has meant the world to me." from him.  Grrr.

Speaking of import bugs and "grrr" moments; I imported a save from DA:O where my Elf Warden and Alistair were still together, doing the Gray Warden thing and still in love.  Yet, when Hawke met him in Lowtown during the Qunari battle, he referred to my Warden as "an old friend". :crying:  I think I actually said to my tv "Wha....? Boy, you best not have left her.  She killed an Archdemon for you!"  Played that scene twice, and he said it both times.

Wiki states those are not mutually exclusive, fool's gold always happens in chapert 2 and Nathaniel is supposed to happen in 3 (if you have import or picked proper set profile). I had dwarven kids (fool's gold) both times (DAO and DAA imports) anyway. I don't know where the Truth is, it's not gamebreaking, but annoying. I couldn't get content that is supposed to be avalible. And I'm not replaying just to see Nathaniel.

Just....be thankful that you did not romance Zev or become an Alistair Queen, really... 8P Could be...worse...especially - in Zev's case.

I leave both DLC to do on Act 3 for this reason. Makes it a lot less frustrating. B)

If you talk to Anders in either his clinic or your home, you get "Your support has meant the world to me." If you talk to him outside both, you get "We should focus on the task at hand." I am very, very careful about never clicking on him unless we're at home. I don't mind the distant affection. I do mind the distant... dismissal.

There's a bug in Awakening were party members left at the Keep always get counted as dead even if the epilogue slides say otherwise. If you want the Finding Nathaniel quest to appear in DA2, you need to bring Nathaniel to the final battle in Awakeining.

The only time Anders will talk about the Warden-Commner is wth Merrill if the WC was a Dalish Elf. And in Legacy he will say something like he told the WC not to spare the architect(this line changes if you killed/spared the architect).

UGH.

Is it just me or all those threads about "Help I'm a manly man and Anders flirted with me" are the pits ???

FFS people! Just say no thanks if you don't want the guy. Don't go whine at BW to remove those gay cooties from your game because you are a closet ******!
