Medically speaking, with neurons firing and the brain doing its stuff (there goes the extent of my medical know how), even Anders' thoughts are a physical function, sort of.  Anyway....  I wonder if Anders went to sleep with Justice in charge (would Justice actually let him sleep while in charge, however?), would Justice experience the darkspawn dreams?  I would be interested in Justice's opinion on these dreams.  Would he be immune to the emotions.  Would he find injustice on the burden placed on Anders?  Would he want vengeance on the darkspawn?

Sure, in our world, thought is grounded in in the physical function of the brain.  But Fade spirits seem capable of thinking and reasoning, without a physical form and its brain and neurons.  TBH, I'm not sure I wanna go down the rabbit hole of taking science to Dragon Age :P Anders makes my head hurt enough as it is!

But that's the thing: Fade spirits are magical beings, so they function differently. That doesn't mean that mortals do as well. Also, don't forget that spirits usually do need a host of some sort to exist in the mortal world. So they need some sort of physical grounding, even if it's not a living being with a brain and organs. Meaning that they are affected by physical things.

Also, when I mentioned taking over physical functions, I was more referring to Wynne: her spirit literally needs to keep her alive, so it must somehow substitute for her bodily functions.

There are Fade spirits that manifest without needing a host of any kind, though.  Most Desire and Pride demons that we see in Thedas don't seem to need any kind of host.  Shades don't use hosts.

I'm inclined to think that while Fade spirits CAN interact physically with mortal hosts (ie; Wynne's spirit of Faith keeping her alive), they don't HAVE to in order to manifest.  And it's probably a choice (to some degree) how much they want to interact with a physical host.

Merrill's blood magic called upon a spirit's power without becoming a host for it.  But manifestation takes energy and only powerful spirits can manifest without a boost and those that do seem to do it where the veil is naturally thin.

Marethari became the host for that particular spirit though.

But yeah, I agree with the idea that only the most powerful spirits can manifest freely (Desire and Pride demons are the two top tiers in the demon hierarchy), whereas Shades will pop up as well if the veil is thin. By the way, the Wiki says that Shades are actually Sloth demons in their true forms.

I wouldn't say a spirit can choose to what it extent it needs to interact with a host or not, but rather that it depends on their power, as stated above.

Well done on the shade spirit discovery.  I've debated which ones those must be before.  It's good to know they described it more clearly.  I am hoping we will have a guide to spirits coming out given the nature of the next game.  The "bosses" or at least unique spirits that were shown in the trailer certainly need to get categorized.  And given the length of the game, they might finally explore the question in-depth.

I thought I read something implying your choices could save the world or destroy it utterly.  Do you think this is the redemption of the Black City?  I am very excited that they are including at least hints of an elven uprising, I rather thought it would be a great thing for DA 4.  Still hoping that Anders will get one more shot.  I suspect that given the scope of this game, if there is a chance to explore more of Thedas, then we will probably be time jumping by the next one more than 10 years.  Thoughts?

I am still lamenting we didn't get the 3rd DLC for DA2.. that would surely have Anders

Legacy had a lot of content for Anders, though, so it wasn't too bad. Not like DAO, where if you didn't like the female LIs, no DLC for you.

MotA has some great lines from Anders...especially loved the one about him expressing his gratitude at rescuing him from evil Templars trying to brand him with the Tranquil sun.

New uses for the chains...:o

I'll be in my bunk. :P

That comment is hilarious and proves Anders is very imaginative. I bet he spent his first year fantasizing about Hawke in his bunk ^^

I found his whole attitude during that adventure to be very reminiscent of how he was in DAA; flirty, sarcastic, and fun.

Yeah, when people say "he changed so much" it boggles my mind. Try burning Amarantine and you see Anders furious at you for letting innocents die, just like he gets on DA2. DAA Anders is a lot like DA2 Anders, at least when Justice doesn't meddle!

Mmmm.  I took him with me to save Amaranthine...I may have to load it up again and do it the other way, just to see Angry!Awakening Anders...

I'll admit, I played DA2 before I got DAA, so I was already predisposed to like him.  I had to keep reminding my little elf Warden that she had Alistair waiting back at home for her...*giggle*:P Didn't help when he kept telling Velanna that he liked tattoos on women. I wanted to turn to him and say "Hey!  I have them, too, you know."

Which reminds me...I saw some screenshots of someone's game where they had modded Alistair to look just like Anders.  Not really sure how I feel about that.

Take him with you but decide to burn Amarantine when it gets suggested (midway through the battle) and you see DA2 Anders.

Is this another of the painful research requirements?  That Templar run one was harsh in DA2.  :crying:

Figured I'd ask for an opinion here. Do you think it's worth doing a rivalry romance with Anders if instead of being pro-Circle you be pro-blood magic/demons? The only reason I wonder is because in his questioning beliefs he tries to convince you the Circle is bad. Will he do this even if you don't support the Circle? Because I don't want to bother romancing him if it's going to be like having a friendship with Merrill and not giving her the arulin'holm but still having her act like you did during her Questioning Beliefs. Not to mention, I don't even know if I can get enough rivalry points if I only support blood magic. I don't think there's enough to get me to 100 rivalry.

Anders draws his last breath in front of the demolished Chantry.  As that happens an orange cat passes by.  The cat senses something and pauses.  An ethereal vacuum sound and then, the cat's eyes open wide.  They are glowing icy blue!

Haha, just a random thought when I read the cartoon. =]

Just a quick FYI... Dragon Age: Inquisition is the featured game in the September edition of Game Informer magazine. If you have a Gamestop nearby, you can pick up a copy there. I just got my digital edition and had to let everyone know.

And, btw...I have avoided getting a Tumblr account until I saw that Anders cartoon...and I had to give in.

Anders is nearly a Klondike bar, as in "What would you do for a Klondike bar?"

Ya know, this line of thought is just making the latest chapter of my story come out with all sorts of lemony goodness...and I've written only about half of the chapter. :P  So thank you for even more inspiration than I already had...and my readers will thank you, too, I'm almost positive.

And since we really need more of that sexy mage on this page...

I've been playing through Mass Effect 2 again, so this is just completely awesome to me right now.  An Omni-tool staff is so much cooler than an Omni-tool blade...and I would sooo want this biotic on my squad...like, all the time.  And this awesome picture is by Cygnonymous.
