I don't know about any of you, but I was just profoundly relieved to see that the default world state in the Keep showed him to be alive!

It probably doesn't mean anything. I mean in the keep, you could say that Wynne is alive but in Asunder:

But the Keep is only for recording the choices we made in the games (and the world-state which pertains at the end of each individual game) rather than reflecting anything that happened in post-DAO/DA2 material such as the novels and comics.

Hence, Wynne has to be alive in Bioware's default (which, according to the Keep, she is), otherwise the events of Asunder couldn't happen as they did. Likewise, Alastair has to be alive and ruling for the internal coherence of their own canon.

If Anders is alive by default, that suggests to me that they might have some future role planned for him, otherwise he would be dead, like Loghain. 

 

That's my hope anyway, FWIW.

I thought the "Friend Cullen" part was from DA:  Origins mage tower segment.  Did it show up in DA2 segment of the Tapestry?

Also, they had reused his outfit for a generic 'apostate' mob from Hinterlads. At first I was almost shocked, because the hair matched too. But I've seen plenty of those 'clones' later on.

I don't think so. Unless DG had already confirmed, that the Inquisitor had personally killed Anders in Hinterlands, along with dozen of his brand new clones. And Varric did not say a word about it, lol. 

 

I think all of you can imagine what my first reaction was like, though. I mean, before I could piece things together. That outfit was exclusive after all, an iconic one. I don't think it was a good idea to reuse it, and even less good one - to make unnamed apostate models with a blond pony-tail.

Hmm, thanks for the extra information.  I don't have the game yet either but as a whole lot of people have been waiting to hear if Anders lives or dies for the past 2 years, I posted a video discussing it.  The contents of the video are yours to look at or not.  I did tag spoilers above the video.  News that Hawke was making an appearance has been known since Fem!Hawke appeared in one of the trailers.  I have edited my response slightly so you can explore the answer more thoroughly for yourself. 

 

However, your talk of images are something I haven't seen, I am happy to hear the news but it may be considered spoilers to others.  Fortunately, this very character thread warns that it has spoilers.

you choose if Hawke or your 'warden friend' dies. That means Warden Alistair, Loghain, or ... Stroud. Unless you really like tragic Anders losing Hawke don't import a Warden Alistair or Loghain lives game and Hawke will be fine.

You have no idea what I've been through because of that second spoiler! I shouldn't have clicked that one, really. I have not googled it any further being too afraid to get some sort of confirmation. And then I play it....

....and realize that the 'Choice' is in fact between lady Hawke and that Stroud guy. Which is not really a choice, to begin with. I have Alistair-King on my PT.

I don't like the way they handle this plot in either case - too much meta-gaming involved in this decision, the Inq is not supposed to care about any of those, Hawke, Alistair, Loghain - (s)he has nothing personal with anyone mentioned. (S)he barely knows them. It's not like Kaidan vs Ash on the Virmire! It's the player who cares and who has to decide here. The unnecessary drama. But at least I did not have to chose between my former LI and my former PC. Hawke must be on her way back to Anders, and that's 'official'. Which I'm glad for.

The Thread has grown so quiet.  Finally saw Varric in Inquisition and he had more information on where Anders went after the mess at Kirkwall.  Probably helpful for the fanfic folks out there.

They left all the DAII characters fates pretty open-ended.

 

Probably a good idea.  The last thing anyone wants is for one of their favourite characters to die off-screen.
