Now I really have to make up a warrior.

My first Hawke was a rogue, because I really wanted to play a non-mage/super-protective-of-mages character, and I liked all that zipping around on the battlefield. Now I'm playing a mage and attempting to rivalmance Fenris.

But I think I did that all wrong because now I always end up standing next to Anders while we both zing spells, with a perfect view of all his sexy mage moves, and it just makes me want to romance him all the harder.

My warrior pretty much started training so she could protect Bethany and be as intimidating as hell when she did so (I only wish Hawke could successfully intimidate more people, but she keeps insisting on using the dagger when she's got a big-ass sword strapped to her back...). And DW rogues are awesome (I so miss my DW warriors, though), but 2H can kill hordes at a time and there is something so intensely satisfying about...everything a warrior does in DA2. I started a male mage last night (and I hate him already) and immediately switched to Carver after the first group of darkspawn because mages seem so static. I get so bored when I have to micro-manage Anders in the High Dragon fights.

All that power at your fingertips is a nice idea, though. When Bethany randomly whips out some glowy hands to show Vincento that she and Hawke can be trusted to help Feynriel, I'm pretty sure Hawke had a bit of mage envy.

Err... sorry for interrupting the dirty talk and if this has been asked before, but:

Towards the end, Anders and the lute and Hawke complaining about Anders not picking up after his own dirty socks? Where does this happen? It sounds like something you get for examining something inside your house XD

Catching up from overnight.  My husband can't pick up his own dirty socks either.  And Alistair had sock issues, too.

I'm sensing a trend.  Should I be scared?

I've always played mages. Have like 8 Mage Wardens and 1 rogue that I created but got bored of. So my first and second Hawke are mages, but I'm currently playing a 2H - warrior and I'm loving it so far :) She is very protective of Bethany and Anders hehe

What is this about a lute and Anders? I don't recall anything from DA2 hinting that the two are related....
Or about socks.  I'm mad that I somehow missed some stuff!  I always had Anders in my party!

When you click on the lute in the bedroom after romancing Anders, Hawke will say "Anders has many talents; playing the lute is not one of them."

I've never gotten an of the bed ambient dialog, though. Only the stupid paw prints one. Sadface.

I usually played rogues, and to a lesser extent warriors, in DA:O but this time around I just can't stop making mages. They're fun as heck to play, sure, but I just get so much more out of the story as a mage, I can't help myself. I've been meaning to make a Stabby Rogue for a while but I just can't stop making mages! Is there a support group for this?

I only ever get the paw print comment too. I remember being sad about it my first playthrough. I figured after Anders moved in and kicked the dog off the bed, there would be something Anders specific. Never happened though.

Although, mentioning Anders and bed in the same sentence makes me entirely lose my train of thought...

I feel a bit ridiculous at times, playing a mage. I'm running around Kirkwall setting off huge fireballs and lightning storms EVERYWHERE. How is nobody arresting me? It feels a bit...broken.
Though I guess no matter what you're always running around with mages doing stuff like that.
Also, I'm not sure if it's been suggested but Alice Cooper's Poison makes me think of an Anders rivalmance.

*snip the sexy*

So hmmm... yeah, I love being a mage.  I always play long range AOE types. I do love that when they come close I'm hitting them over the head with my staff, it's hilarious!
In other games mages are tough things... they're either sorcerers with very limited number of spells (it's okay though) or wizards who have to pick their spells every day (infuriating!)... but Bioware makes mages that I have fun playing as and fighting as.  I rarely take over my warriors because I'm so obsessed with tactics, except in big battles (hello Dragon) where I'm pretty much micromanaging everything.
But I can see enjoying the chopping down guys aspect of warrior... I loved the mano-a-mano fight with the Arishok (except as an archer, that was a joke!)

It hits a little too close to home for me. *is Anders* The only thing missing is a cat slowly usurping his pillow.

Ok I don't feel bad for having 3 mage wardens (I modded an extra Cousland to be a mage too) and 2 mage Hawkes, now hehe. I have to say I actually prefer the Hawke/Carver sib rivalry over the Hawke/Bethany sib love.

I was a bit bummed about the sib rivalry between Carver and Hawke. I've never had a brother and wanted Carver to at least tell my LI (Anders) that he'd be watching him like a hawk(e) :3

You know, it's funny but in DAO I loved playing 2H Warriors and second favorite was rogue. I only have 1 mage import, but in DA2, the only characters I have are mages. I find it way more enjoyable to play a mage in DA2, plus the storyline just seems to beg for it.

So was I! All he whines about is himself throughout the game. I have a hard time being nice to him.

After doing the Act3 Sebastian quest, I think Elthina brought this on herself. I tried to send her away, I really did...I even thought "Go away with Sebastian!" Really, how stubborn! And it is not like she wanted to do something remaining there, no no, she just wanted to stand there with her flock >.> I think she wanted this somehow, he even saw the "troubled" Anders, I think she imagined something, and still wanted to be a sort of martyr. Andraste did not volunteer for the flame, but she did somehow >.<

And btw, thanks to Ryzaki for posting that rivalmance dialogue with Justice showing up. I didn't expect that to happen :o Poor Anders, he was really losing it...

I just did this again last night. She arrogantly stands there and says she's the Grand Cleric, "who would dare kill me?" Well, for starters, Anders is right behind you...
This seems like the perfect time for Sebastian to speak up about Hawke's crazy apostate boyfriend - he's RIGHT there! But nope. /face palm

I think that if Elthina doesn't see her death coming (I personally believe she does know), she at least accepts it. I think she knows a lot more than she lets on when she meets Anders in the chantry after Anders and Hawke have been off "collecting potion ingredients". She even tells Anders she hopes he found what he was looking for in the chantry.

And on a tangent (yes, I am tangent girl!), is anyone else completely horrified by some of Sebastian's party banter? During my last playthrough, Sebastian told Fenris (with Hawke and a romanced Anders standing right there) that they should turn Anders and Merrill over to the templars, that it was the Maker's will. Even Fenris was like "you take that up with Hawke, dude, I'm not going there."

Sebastian's offer to have a chaste marriage crept me out more than any of Anders' crazy antics, more than most things in the game. I felt like I was watching something out of a cult documentary. But that's just my opinion of course, and this is an Anders thread, so...

Yeah, I think Elthina might have seen her death coming, but if that's the case, her martyrdom disgusts me. I didn't want to kill Anders because of that, too.

I like the way mages work in this game and the way they tie into the story, but I just can't give up my lock-picking, back-stabbing, shadow-stepping ways. In almost all other games I'm ranged (magic or physical) or healz; the DA games are the only ones in which I've really gotten attached to being melee, and now I'm addicted.
At least it means that anyone threatening Anders will very quickly find a blade at their throat or in their eye, a la Zevran's cameo.
