Oh wow.  That sort of confirms what I always thought about Nate & Anders.  I take it that is a sound file that didn't get used?

Disappointing Anders fight:

So I (pro templar) spared Anders' life and told him to get lost after he refused to join me in the fight against the circle. He then made a badass "i'll stop you" reappearance in the gallows courtyard. I was expecting him to unleash the full power of justice and give a really good fight or betray his principles and go blood mage on me. Instead, petrify + assassinate followed by twin fangs and he's dead in 4 seconds. Most underwhelming fight ever. To add insult to injury, there was no death cutscene for him and his remains was simply called 'circle mage'.

Does anyone feel that Anders should at least get a dignified boss fight of sorts?

I say it again: Kirkwall = Hellmouth. There's just no other explanation for all the weird, ****ed-up **** that happens there on a near-daily basis.

Oh totally.. Now that you've said that, I'm going to think of Kirkwall no other way.

Fenris dove for him before I could even think about it, but his body disappeared for me. Did you see it, or was it a pile of loot?

It was loot. To think that even Bartrand's body remained after death.

Pretty much any companion that fights you in the gallows gets an underwhelming death. Fenris went down in a single assassinate shot for me and that was it.

Speaking of the Architect...

Anders was all for sparing him in DA:A but Justice, as it's been said, really wanted him dead. Although it's probably a moot point if you killed Archy, I wonder what their stand is on the affair now that they've merged.

On a side note, my warden was actually able to convince Justice to stay with me despite letting the slimy sob live. I swear he was so much more persuadable before.

I think it would make him a villain which perhpas its how some people see it but I dont think it is how he was intended.  Orsino for example... they made him a boss fight and I feel they almost had to slip the blood magic/creepy experiment in there to make him a real villain even for a second.  Also I feel making him a villain would take away the emotion of the moment.  It would change a deeply tragic element into *battle music* boss fight!

Also I think Justice is for the moment sated.  He does not need more.  What drove him for so many years is done, now all that is left is waiting for the pieces (ah ah) to fall.

If you rivalmance Anders and side with the templars in the end, you're forced to kill him, aren't you.

...Seriously? Justice can be persuaded? The guide book lied to me! xD

I did bring Anders, and he was okay with it. I don't think they would go for it now, judging by their reactions to the Rock Wraith and Torpor.

If you side with the templars and let Anders live you have to fight him, period. Rivalry, friendship, romance are all irrelevant.

Yeah, that's weird. There are Circle Mages in that fight, so he must just disappear no matter what.

I think it might allow the handwaving of another of his deaths.  "What, does everything in a robe look alike to you?"

Yeah I'm kinda surprised why some people are shocked that he would do that... I mean, if he blew up the chantry, then sided with you with the Templars, I think he'd be about the worst hypocrite ever in the history of... ever.

What you say makes sense, I just wish there'd been some closure for him and Justice in a cutscene. Not sure what he would say but...something.

I know how to deal with things like this; pick a side and fight it
out." It was so much better for her to finally be able to make a choice
and feel good about it (because killing all the mages because of one
apostate's actions? Um, no.). Also, everything Anders said started
making perfect sense

In my opinion he hoowdwinked you just as he had hoped to hoodwink others, perhaps you wee blinded by the romance.  His actions were almost a deflector for all of the other bad actions by apostate mages in the game, as in 'put it all on me' when he was just one of many that could be used to justify a hard line by the templars.  I was a mage in the game and at the point of decision i may have decided to support the mages or I may have said I will not choose (can't remember if that option was a valid one)  but after Orsinios little trick there was not much doubt in my mind that this group of mages were more rotten to the core than other wise.

Oh, trust me, I see that angle of things. I was just discussing an idea for a fic with a friend last night wherein Justice is helping manipulate Anders into the romance with you the whole time because he/they need Hawke to protect them and help them complete the Chantry mission. Thus why Anders immediately invites himself to move in (at Justice's manipulation), because they'll be safe from Templars there, etc. Some of it is Anders, the more romantic parts, but some of it is Justice, and the more the two become merged, the less manipulation Justice needs to do to encourage Anders to complete the mission. But even if you come from that angle, there's still an Anders in there who cares about you. So, sure I can see the "hoodwinked" angle, but that wasn't my character's feelings on the matter. My personal feelings are way more complex and would take a long time to explain.

As for the mages vs. templars, Meredith was just as out of control as some of the mages by the end. But even then, not all of the mages are bad; Bethany and Merrill are good examples. The whole thing with Orsino just made me go...  REALLY? I agree with the poster who said a bit back there that Kirkwall = Hellmouth. The thin Veil affects everything badly here.

I guess people saw letting him go as being merciful and that he was ~throwing it away~ by going to fight for the mages? Or that by letting him live he should have been grateful and stuck by your side or something? I have no clue, but there's no amount of mental gymnastics that allows me to see Anders siding with templars to kill mages and annull the Circle.

I was just a little surprised that after you let him go and he thanks you for letting him live, that he comes back to try to kill you.  I would have expected him to just run away at that point and not come back.  Though, I suppose, I do understand why he came back like that to fight you if you sided with the templars.  I was just bummed about it at the time as I didn't particularly want to kill Anders.

Yeah he was upset but he let the warden do what she thought was best. He gets extra pissed when the Mother reveals that Archy started the blight but he never turned on me.

It shows how much conviction he has.  He wanted to help the defend the mages that he started the war over.

Anders, as he says, is the cause for mage freedom. That's all he is. If you plan on killing the cause, you have to go through him.

Or something. I'm distracted by thoughts of breakfast-lunch and the fact that my insomnia goes away when I don't try to do early morning wake ups.

To be fair, he did have a group of templars with him when he came to face you. Against you and Danarius though it's just him.
