Well, that was nice of him. If I had known, I would have brought Justice along. At least I know for the next playthrough that my Warden decides to spare the Architect.Lady Dino wrote...

Speaking of the Architect...
Anders was all for sparing him in DA:A but Justice, as it's been said, really wanted him dead. Although it's probably a moot point if you killed Archy, I wonder what their stand is on the affair now that they've merged.
On a side note, my warden was actually able to convince Justice to stay with me despite letting the slimy sob live. I swear he was so much more persuadable before.
I did bring Anders, and he was okay with it. I don't think they would go for it now, judging by their reactions to the Rock Wraith and Torpor.
Yeah he was upset but he let the warden do what she thought was best. He gets extra pissed when the Mother reveals that Archy started the blight but he never turned on me.

Yeah I'm kinda surprised why some people are shocked that he would do that... I mean, if he blew up the chantry, then sided with you with the Templars, I think he'd be about the worst hypocrite ever in the history of... ever.
I guess people saw letting him go as being merciful and that he was ~throwing it away~ by going to fight for the mages? Or that by letting him live he should have been grateful and stuck by your side or something? I have no clue, but there's no amount of mental gymnastics that allows me to see Anders siding with templars to kill mages and annull the Circle.
I think if he had tried to, the other companions would have reacted...poorly.
Anders: Hey, guys. So I thought...well, I missed you and thought you could use some help.
Hawke: You're going to aid in the Rite of Annulment?
Anders: Maybe?
Aveline: **** no, you're not. Not after 7 YEARS of EVERY conversation being templars are horrible, this and mages are slaves, that.
Varric: She's right, Blondie. We did put up with a lot of your rhetoric.
Aveline: And the only tolerable thing about it was that at least you were sincere in your beliefs.
Aveline: Without that, you're just an ass.
Varric: And crazy.
Anders: Fine. Let's fi-
Fenris: *wipes off blade* It is done.

Props to the writers for making conjuring such emotions in me when Anders did what he did. I officially hate him, and I think I will be executing him every playthrough. Shame, for I was planning to romance him next playthrough, but now that won't be happening. Or it might, but I will have to kill him and that would be difficult. Who knew Anders to be a terrorist? It's so sad... if only we could have saved him from Justice.
Anyway, that's all, really. A true shame Anders had come to that.

It shows how much conviction he has. He wanted to help the defend the mages that he started the war over.
Oh I totally get it. Just me as the player didn't like having to follow through with the killing is all.

@Lady Dino Anders was NOT happy with the idea of sparing the architect from my understanding. The only one who actively approves of it is Nathaniel as far as I know (I've never taken Oghren down there so maybe he does too?)
I think I recall Oghren also thinking it was a very bad idea but at the same level of disagreement as say Justice.
Edit: to say nevermind... I was wrong.

Why not a terrorist? You keep pushing people into a corner, they react. Often violently.
It's a bit sad to see this word applied to him, because I've often seen it as a dehumanizer. It's not a person who is scared, or a person who is so convinced they're right, or a person that wants the world to change, or a person at all. It's a terrorist. It's no longer a human.

Oghren and Velanna also. I remember because I had one game where my party in the final was those two and Nate. No one was a happy camper as we killed the fairy darkspawn.Miri1984 wrote...

Sorry, but... he killed a place of sacred worship to achieve a war between two leading factions. That is a terrorist, by definition. It isn't dehumanising, it's just what it is and it doesn't make that person less of a person, it's just what they go by.
I still liked Anders, I find it sad it came to that.

Doesn't mean he isn't an awesome lovable character at other times.

However I cracked and I'm writing a fic where Maria, my canon Hawke, gets Anders a cat. It's sort of lighthearted because we need happy Anders! Just for a bit at least. Definitions are squirrely things. *shrugs* If I saw terrorist used more objectively, I would be more willing to use it. I don't. I see it as a dehumanizer. And dehumanizers give me pause.
It's a difficult thing.

Yeah, I think people are thinking it's suddenly horrible to like a character who is by definition a terrorist. You don't have to like what he did. He's still a character in a story that had a role to play.

To be fair, he did have a group of templars with him when he came to face you. Against you and Danarius though it's just him.shaneho78 wrote...
Speaking of Fenris, he submits to Danarius without a single struggle when you give him up but is willing to fight you and 3 other companions to the death?
Although I was willing to give him up, I definitely would not fight him so it's just Danarius plus maybe a few flunkies. Anyway my point is that Fenris is a cautious person. He wouldn't even take on the slavers on his own until he got some backup (namely me). From what i can tell, although he hated mages, he's no templar lover and has no vested interest in Kirkwall apart from me. It's very out of character for him to fight me especially after witnessing me destroy hordes of templars, mages, abominations, demons etc in the last 7 years or so. Anders, I can understand. He was willing to give his life up and he felt that his mission is already accomplished. Maybe he wanted a glorious death.

It's... difficult. It's one of those words I'm uncomfortable with. In my personal experience, it's never been that plain of a word. So, difficult.
