Anders still thinks the Circle isa horrible idea on the rivalry path. He just second guesses if the decision to blow up the Chantry is really the right way to go about it.

Terrorism is a way of life, there will never be an end to their war, they will always have an enemy to fight, and there will always be another infidel. Freedom fighters (aka patriots) do what they must until they achieve their goals (freedom for oppressed) and then most are content and stop what they are doing and maybe even regret somewhat of what was necessary to do. Freedom fighters who continue to pursue violence after their original objective is completed are terrorists. They are using their views as a means to wage war even though it's not necessary. That's the difference.

So if the mages become free without the complete destruction of the Chantry but Anders continues his war against them afterwards he is indeed a terrorist. Until then I consider him a freedom fighter.

And that's why I consider the American Revolutionists patriots or freedom fighters and not terrorists.

For everybody saying that the friendship path is encouraging Anders to accept Justice as a part of himself - I feel like that's going too far. Playing through the friendship path, Hawke constantly got the chance to speak out against Justice without gaining rivalry points, even while supporting his cause. "I don't want to see you lose yourself - to the templars or Justice." He may agree with Justice on the bombing in the end, but I don't think Hawke really encourages him not to fight Justice. Hawke gets a lot of points in the friendship where s/he can express concern that Anders is losing control.

That I can understand, though.  He's not changing his mind about the issue at hand, he's deciding to act out of personal loyalty.  Though I've heard you can also persuade him if you point out mages are slaves- an argument I wish we could have had with him earlier.

I guess my problem is that needy, clingy types make me want to run screaming in the other direction.  That was already the vibe I had from the Anders romance, apart from all the creepy "Justice doesn't want me to see you" stuff.  The writer saying "you're his only hope, except that's not much hope either" doesn't help me figure out why I would ever get my PC involved with that train wreck.

But, anyway.  I suppose in a fan thread such comments amount to flaming, so I'll quit.

Hawke doesn't know any better in DAII, but I am under the impression that Friendship path with Anders does encourage him to accept the spirit. Hepler seems to say as much.

I mean, compare Anders from awakenings to Anders in DAII. Two completely different characters. By confirming and agreeing with Anders' choices (building up friendship points), you are pretty much solidifying the New Anders and confirming his decisions.

You can still speak out against Justice, but it seems moot when Anders agrees so much with Justice at that point in the friendship.

For Fenris yeah the mages are slaves thing works (despite  him saying he doesn't care in a banter with Anders about the same thing). So to me not much different than the PC calling Anders out and him only paying attention to them and not everyone else. PC must have a louder voice or something. 
Anders is a bit clingy so I don't mind you running.  I would've ran too if I hadn't looked into those eyes long enough. 

And it is a trainwreck. But myHawke's whole life has been a trainwreck what's one more? 

As for a reason only you can give yourself that.

I do it because my PCs fall in love with Anders crazy or not and seeing Anders lose himself they try to hold on to him with everything they can because they've already lost so many others (and in some cases everyone except Gamlen). 

Edit: Yeah it's not flaming so don't be put out.

@Addai We like talking about the implications of what he's done and his character, so you're not flaming. It's actually interesting that there's such a dichotomy of opinions about him even within his fan base. I'm firmly of the opinion that Justice and Anders should be merged happily, blowing up the Chantry was the only way to free mages - but some think it's necessary to get him to struggle against Justice, some think Rivalry is better for him, some think Friendship. Some believe that the act at the end of the game was unforgivable, some believe he deserved to die for it, some would have helped.

He's just a fabulous character IMO, so many different opinions and options!

If you do the deal you can't say you were playin around. He breaks it off. 

If you lie to the demon at first yeah you can kill him and get friendship but if you actually go through with the deal? Nope.

I tried looking for the thread you're talking about but I don't see it. I don't suppose you'd just tell me?  I found thisin the DAII General Discussion Anders Thread on like, page 201, and there was no artist credit there.

I think if you say it was a ruse, you can still romance him.  I think.  I'm not testing it; I reloaded right after betraying him.

I can picture Kitty Hawke being unbelievably amused by Torpor calling Justice a prig, though.  I imagine she was struck by a huge fit of the giggles right there in the Fade.

Its only flaming if you are insulting other people. I don't think these conversations really fall under that realm.

I see what you are saying, but I chose to romance Anders because I felt more involved in the story. I was Pro-Templar Rival Mage Crazy Woman, and when Anders did what he did, it took me a good fifteen minutes to decide whether or not to off him. I had to put the controller down, walk outside, and debate that. Another fifteen just to side with mages or templars. (I went Mages. Killed Anders anyways)

He may not be stable, and the relationship maybe doomed from the start, but dear god, it makes for a wonderful climactic scene.
