The Anders Thread: Flash Fic Contest! Details on Pg. 2274

I posted a link to the fraps in the other thread if you're interested. Not sure how I feel about this ending. It sounds like Anders agreed to be executed after you "restore order" from some of what Hawke says. It's also interesting that you can woo Merrill back over from the mage side and she's all "hawke is my people" to Orsino which is pretty lulz.

I dunno, it would seem to me that if Vengeance can assume direct control and make Anders blow up a damn church, he wouldn't just sit idly by and be like "LOL OK I AM DONE, YOU CAN GO HELP TRY MAKE EVERYTHING WE FOUGHT AGAINST ALL THIS TIME HAPPEN".
Though the telling him he needs to try and make up for what he did isn't so bad, but still.
That's why I said it made no sense for the templar side.
The mages side though maybe with a brief scene of Anders struggling against Vengeance and gaining dominance for a brief time (in which he gives that speech) would've been awesome.
Edit: Even better if it had occured after a rivarly screaming match with Hawke about how Vengeance just caused the deaths of innocent people and may have doomed every mage in Kirkwall to a slaughter.
2nd edit: The weakness line could be about him not being able to stop himself from blowing up the Chantry instead of slaughtering his fellow mages.
ugh. I want that speech for my rivalrymance. It would've made it perfect.
Instead he acts like a bit of a psycho on the rivalrymance because he goes from all somber to happy and chiper (as happy as he can get in that situation which is a lot happier than he is then the last convo at the rivarlymance).

I'm certain that, towards the end, that's the only thing that's rubbing off on Hawke.
Because, really, nothing ruins the mood like sewer diving for gunpowder and quests for insane ideals.
I, for one, find Sela Petrae to be an incredible aphrodisiac. And all those raiders and mercenaries attacking me while I'm trying to get it? The icing on the friggin' cake of awesomeness.
No, but seriously, WTF Anders?
Mmm. Urine and idealistic fervor.
Thanks, Anders, this will be how I remember you.

"Destructive forces of nature coming right up."
This is the one part where Howden's voice just really, really throws me off from Ellis'. iirc, the line in Awakening was "Destructive forces of nature coming right up," but in DA2 it's changed to "Destructive forces of nature coming up," and that single missing word just throws me completely out of the moment. Like climbing a set of stairs with one step in the middle slightly lower or higher than the others.
As for the exploding Chantry, I'm guessing that it wasn't just the Chantry itself that was hit - the courtyard where we first meet Sebastian is usually bustling, and then you have all the mansions up near where Fenris lives, beside and behind the Chantry. Debris and the shockwave would do plenty of damage, even if the explosion itself was magically contained. There were plenty of fires burning in both the cutscene and in the streets afterwards.
After that scene and running through Lowtown, I looked up and saw that the tops of the buildings seemed to have blackened scorch-marks and I got all excited. Then I reloaded an Act I save and saw they were already there and was sad again. It would have made a nice touch, otherwise.

I was mostly neutral until the end, other than supporting the circle and avoiding deaths. Anders at 100% friendship.
That's the sad face he gives me when I tell him I'm trying to defend the city. *sigh*
I was checking out my screenshots from the final scenes in act 3.
He has a very heart-wrenching sad face.
And I still managed to forget the link!

Aww, Bethany's GW outfit looks really cute. I wish my Wardens had been able to wear that.
It's so sad to have to kill Anders there. I think I prefer it to the knife-in-the-back option, but I'm not sure. At least if you fight him at the Gallows, he gets to die in battle defending his beliefs. On the other hand, he gets his ass kicked by Hawke, who he should know is going to completely slaughter everyone she comes across and the mages will all die horribly. Soooo... there's that.

Oh, super sadness. It's those brown eyes, they just kill me every time.
As for posting pictures, the code is [*img]http://www.your-url.com/picture.jpg[*/img] without the asterisks. If you're copy and pasting a link in the standard form rather than the quick reply, and the picture URL shows up as a purple hyperlink instead of regular text, copy and paste it into notepad and then back into the form, otherwise it'll just turn into a bunch of jumbled code and a broken image like below.

1. My Hawke could not kill her friend. No matter how much at that point they did not agree. She admired and cherished him far too much.
2. My Hawke wanted him to defend the mages... the people who were going to be slaughtered because of him. And she knew that's where he'd be, she knew him well enough to know he would not run like a coward.
3. Hawke wanted to give Fenris and Anders the battle they never got to have. I'm fairly certain it's completely injust that Fenris doesn't get to kill Anders if you cannot. Anders has just broken the trust and heart of Fenris' beloved... I highly doubt that would be allowed to pass unchecked. Fenris already hates Anders as it is.
I found it much more satisfying than the backstab videos I've seen. I didn't attack him at all, he froze Hawke and Fenris insta-killed him. I wish he had been harder to beat, but whatever. His speech, his disappointment, his sadness... his explanation that he just wanted a home, not a jail cell... was BEAUTIFUL. I should post the screenshots of what he says. It's just... tear-jerking phenomenal... Hawke knew they had to be enemies, but I'm fairly certain my rogue was in even greater awe of her friend at that moment. Sad, but in awe.
He died as he should... defending the mages. Killed by his mortal enemy in battle as his friend weeped at what the world had come to.

Take out the cannibalism thing and you have my progression with regards to Anders. Add in during the Awakenings Time me thinking, "He's alright, I guess? He's sort of trying too hard. Plus he sounds like Cullen. Creepy, creepy Cullen."
EDIT: The only time I'm all "UR DOIN IT RONG NEW GUY" is when he does the "Say your prayers!" battlecry. I don't know why Ellis' way sticks with me so hard, but it does, and dammit new guy you aren't doing it right.

He did get major points in Awakening for the cat thing and being kinda weird in general... but I wasn't super moved by him and was like DNW in DA2, too many Warden pals. Now look at where we're at. Lol.

Yeah, when he was announced, I was all "arrrrgh, he was so one-dimensional in Awakenings and the Justice thing is okay I guess but I am sure he'll be a love interest and blaaaaaaaaaaargh I want someone neeeeeeeeeew."

lmao
Though I really wonder how much of that cause is his and how much is Justice.
That to me makes the templar ending plausible. I play the rivalry romance alot so the romance ending at the gallows (on the mages side) is a bit headdesky for me because of how easily he then accepts Justice who he's been fighting against all the rest of the time.
That said templar ending makes no sense beause Meredith should've skewered him. Then again Meredith isn't the sharpest knife in the rack at that point so...
I know exactly what you mean. I played the rivalry romance the second time through and it's obvious he's questioning his decision to blow up the chantry and the merging with justice. You nearly talk him out of it.
I was very disappointed that the ending was identical. When you ask him if it was Justice who blew up the chantry he says "No" even on the rivalry path. From what Jennifer Helper says he blames Justice if you rivalmance him and you get that impression from the rivalmance dialog.
I think they didn't have time to make two different ending conversations and so decided to make a one shot serves all. But it does feel like I was cheated at the end both there and in the gallows as the rivalmance path just seems to crumble there and default to the friendship one, which is sad.
However, I'd have never taken him seriously if he'd sided with the templars, he just wouldn't, no matter what happens between him and Justice/Vengeance.

I actually didn't find him that 1-D in DA:A.
It might be because I've played mages, and the idea that he and my Warden were from the same place and had the same background just, you know, added interest. And I also like characters that deal with big problems by, well, not.

I am sure Anders just wanted to die at that point really, he had to do what he did, but he even wanted to die for it. Killing him is probably the easiest way out for him, maybe it is even an act of mercy. You free him from his sense of guilt and Justice. Maybe he really can't suffer Vengeance anymore. That said, I'll never kill him, go to hell Sebastian! He is not a bad guy but..if even Fenris can support me aiding mages, so should he. I just always support the mages there because Meredith is obviouslt just looking for an excuse to invoke the right of annullment. I mean, killing Anders right there and let him rot outside the Gallows would have made a show for the people who demanded blood I suppose, killling the whole circle (which probably contained more people than the Chantry) is just madness. Even poor Sebastian should not like the idea to kill innocents >.>
Speaking of battlecries, I like a lot "For Freedom!" too...reminds me of Braveheart xD
