Seriously, his "You don't hate me... You like me?" expression is deadlier than Qunari blow'em up powder.

Aww, I haven't gotten that line yet.  Then again, I'm pursuing him so hard that I'm probably going to miss a lot of adorable statements from his end.   His reaction to my Hawke is more like "Sweet Maker, woman, when was the last time you got laid?"

Well, that's not a direct quote, but he makes that face every time you pick anything non-saucy with a heart up until you "enjoy each other's company".
He kind of snuck up on me romance-wise, because I was just choosing the decent polite option whether it had a heart or not. I was going to attempt to take it slower, but knowing how mentally-ill, sad-faced Anders' brain works is kind of my specialty. -shrug-

Ok been flirting constantly with him. Guide says in Act 2 he will eventually hint that a night time visit is forthcoming that to visit your mansion at night anytime before the end of Act 2 and he will visit you and you can start the romance. Anyone know when this conversation is actually triggered?

Is there not a lot of romance stuff in Act 1?  I'm currently doing the Deep Roads Expedition, which I know is the end of it.  I got the flirt line with Anders right after his recruitment quest, and then I had one conversation with him in his clinic with some flirt lines.  He also showed up in Gamlen's house once to talk to the mabari (as did Merrill... the dog is just popular, I guess).

I went and tried to speak to him in his clinic between almost every quest and no other conversations or romance-furthering stuff happened.  I also dragged him along on every quest and did everything possible to raise friendship points (I'm being obnoxiously pro-mage this go-around).  Did I miss anything, or am I on the right track?

You get another couple of conversations in the beginning of Act 2 with one really big one that occurs after a totally obvious event for it to occur after. Just drop in often for a chat and go on any quest he throws at you.

@Gremnock, At the beginning of the act, I spoke to him, checked out how rad my new house was, and then went back to see him again and he gave me a quest.

Yay, okay!

I got some party banter in which Anders and Isabela chat about how she recognizes him from the Pearl, referencing some sexy electricity tricks he used.  Hawke actually spoke up and said "PLEASE STOP TALKING NOW OMG".  :(  Poor, poor sexually frustrated Hawke.  I'm not sure if it implied that he actually slept with Isabela or if he was just part of some crazy Pearl orgy.  Either way, this came almost right after Anders told Hawke "Alas, no, perhaps if we met a year ago but ALAS."  >_<

So I know most of us won't be able to answer this but is the friendship path the right path for Anders? I was inclined to believe from bits here and there on the forum that the rivalry path would be a better way to approach his romance?

Has anyone tried to romance him on the rivalry path or is everyone doing the friendship one? Right now I'm stuck between the two~

I just don't think I would have the heart to romance him on the rivalry path. :( How could you really love him when you hate everything he stands for (and will probably even die for)? :crying:

Every character I ever love dies, and for christ's sake, he has a whole branch of moves that utilize an ability called Martyr. It's so going to happen.

I think the only character I could actually get a rivalry with is Fenris, but apparently your friendship goes up with him even when he gets all pissy and storms out of the room on you. <_<

Yeah, I intended on romancing him as a rival, but that was when I thought that being his rival meant challenging vengeance as being the answer and not being blatantly anti-mage. For some reason, I love Bethany and have been rp-ing my Hawke as being her lifelong protector. For there to be any consistency, I have to go Friendly with Anders and, from his spec, it seems like it might be for the best?

Of course, my import was hopelessly screwed up (Bodahn thinks my Cousland died fighting the Archdemon, but I'm pretty sure that Anders referred to her in another conversation) so I will be playing this Hawke again, I'm certain. If something absolutely horrific happens, I can fix it on that playthrough.

I will admit that I was really enjoying his new voice until I ran into Cullen and realized how much more distinctive it was with Greg Ellis. Sometimes I have trouble distinguishing between Anders banter and random ambient talking from the mannequins around Kirkwall.

Also, I love his profile so much. I know that is weird, but there it is.

I did talk to him like you did and went to my house and went back to speak with him but he is not offering a quest. I have used flirt lines whenever it was available he is all the way at Friendship and I gave him gifts.

@Gremnock, Hmmm... I can't really remember doing anything else. I might have triggered something unknowingly. I mean, I didn't even out and out flirt with him most of the time. -shrug-
Do you still have the quest marker to visit him? Maybe do a mage-related side-quest and come back?
I didn't know I was getting in on this knowledge early or I would have taken notes. XD

Please watch at your own discretion but I wanted to share the Anders sex scene. I'm not going to spoil anything but it gave me motivation to work out a way to romance him even more. :pinched:*sighs*

Well it's just that it seems that romancing him on the friendship path is kind of supporting him to be less diplomatic and to take Vengeance out when he doesn't like something Templars are doing. This is just a guess but if he has the urges to kill Templars because of what they do to mages by being his friend you're supporting that kind of thinking, are you not? If Hawke is his rival wouldn't Hawke prevent that from happening and keep him in check and sane? I mean you'de be between him and Templars and if you play the rivalry path well you can romance him. At least from what Mike said anyway~

I don't know if I sound contradicting but with DA2 it seems by having a friendship with them you encourage their questionable believes to be ok. I mean I don't like Templars but I don't think getting rid of them it's the answer to the problem. I feel like I'm helping him by protecting him of himself? Ugh....so complicated my head hurts......

No, I get what you mean. I just find it difficult to strike that balance - I was going to play rivalmance because my assumption was that that would be to discourage him from seeking vengeance, but so far as I can tell agreeing with his views seems to up the friendship no matter what, so...

At the moment I can't really metagame, since my character is a roguish, fun loving, sarcastic but good hearted mage, and she would NEVER side with Templars, unless it was obvious that they were on the side of good and the mage in question was evil. So she's going friendship with Anders, even though I know that rivalry might be better for him in the end. The problem is that choosing those options would be directly against what my Hawke believes...yeah, this is tough. I have a feeling that what Flemeth says on Sundermount is especially prophetic and poignant for an Anders romance.

And, on another note, I would pay good money to have a full description of the night that Anders and Isabela met in the Pearl. LOL.

I just got him and did Tranquility, before I had to go to work.  ANDERS!!!  My only problem right now is his first conversation back at the clinic, of course I chose to flirt outrageously, and he wasn't having that.  Hope I didn't scare him off...:?

Yeah I went to talk to him right away just to see if I could still flirt him, and he shot me down!!! I've heard from friends he's been flirting with them in game, but he hasn't with me yet!

I am concerned..

Yeah I know. The rivalry path is a painful one. When I try to talk to him, he's like "I don't want to argue right now, let's move on..." and I'm like....Anders, I have a plan, give in!!! lol It's pretty hard. With him it feels so much easier to be friends, versus Fenris is easier to be rivals/friends with him. Ugh, I don't know what I'm gonna do. Since nobody really has an answer I'm gonna try doing the rivalry path. I'll have to go back 4hrs in my game but I'm just gonna do it. I messed it up with Anders earlier since he keeps floating around the neutral path. But I have to keep a more defined view for the rivalry to really take effect.

:?

OMG me too!!! It's a hard one because my rogue Lady Hawke loves her sister and I originally wanted to support mages but it seems you can't side with mages and have a rivavlry path with Anders....I'm at a loss but I'm gonna try it. Except since I was almost done with Act 1, I'm going back like 4hrs in my game to properly set it up so I was like I don't know I dont want to side with Templars.

And yes I'm glad I wasn't the only one freaking out at Flemeth's "advice". I was like Anders is gonna go crazy and die isn't he?!?!?! We can't be friends!!!!!:crying::mellow:

lol.....I should make my life easier and go for the friendship path but if something bad happens, I'm gonna feel all crappy. I hate tragedies and sad things. I mean I was feeling bad for my warden when she found out she was gonna have a short life and die in a ditch somewhere in the deep roads or that she can't have babies. I was all sad panda for the rest of the day. I mean I'm so like that I even avoided Ultimate Sacrifice because I didn't want to see Alistair mop around my corpse. LOL

Yeah even if its harder to do, I'm going for the rivalry/romance path with Anders. For all we know, neither path will be a happy one for Anders. The boy is full of angst!!

My favorite characters always get killed off too, so I had to check on this. If the guide isn't lying to me or trying very hard to conceal spoilers (which is really messing up my playthrough right now), there isn't a required death for Anders. It definitely says he can make it to the final battle, at least. Hawke does have the option to kill him though.

Really? That's strange, because he didn't seem to mind when my FemHawke flirted shamelessly with him right after Karl's death... o_o He was a little surprised by it, that's all. I reloaded and didn't use that save (too out of character for my Hawke), and he did flirt in my next conversation with him at the clinic. He called her beautiful and she had three ways to respond, two for romance dialogue and one to end it. It was a really sweet scene.

Okay I reloaded that part and did it again, it's the same dialogue so I don't think I missed out the first time... I hope. I was too trigger happy and didn't get the beautiful comment for the extra +5 friendship.

I'm going down the friendship path with him.  I was thinking the rivalry would be more "Look, calm down, you can't just go vengeance-ing everybody all the time" but it seems like the only way to rack up major rivalry points is to be more like "MAGES SUCK! HAHAHAHA!".  -_-  In his particular case, the friendship/rivalry seems more based on mages vs. templars than raging vengeance vs. chilling out.

I squeed like mad when Anders kissed Hawke.  :wub::wub:  It was better than the "sex" scene, IMO.  And I also snickered when he said "Justice doesn't approve" or something like that... grumpy old Justice.

ETA:  So when Anders moves in with Hawke, does he not actually move in?  Or does it happen later?  He's still in clinic, day or night.
