I really didnt like Anders in the first game, love him in this one. Think what he did at the end is unforgivable though.

From what I've seen in both, Anders' is a little more "I'm so sorry" than Fenris'. I found Fenris' to be more about him, than about your FemHawke losing her mother.

I was so devastated after the mother died. Even though I knew it was coming, I wasn't prepared for how emotional it would be for my character. I paused the game to wipe away my tears, and my 14 year old son looked at me like I was crazy.

Having Anders come and offer comfort (and many other companions while traveling around) was unexpected and very welcome. My PC was touched by the sweetness of her resident apostate.

I was starting to tear up the whole way through that quest and then when Anders showed up to comform my hawke, i lost it.

The first thing that came to mind was, Bioware why did you not do this in the first game when a cousland pc kills Howel.........

I don't know about anyone else, but I was getting Harley Quinn/Joker type relationship vibes if Hawke agrees with Anders and runs away with him at the end.

Oh, the sex scenes I looked away for similar reasons, as they were indeed sort of awkward! The Anders kiss, though, I just felt like a third wheel or something and that I should maybe tactfully leave the room because oh my goodness pardon me I didn't mean to intrude is it getting hot in here? Basically I averted my eyes in DA:O because it was bad awkward, and averted them in DA2 because it was good awkward.

You know even though I like Anders. I really wanted to kill him for what he did. I ended up sparing him because I didn't want him to become a martyr. But damn did I really want to kill him.

Seriously. That's why it surprised me that my companions actually noticed, since they didn't in DA:O. Reactivity to various decisions is nice. It makes it so much more immersive that way.

I had to step away from the game for a moment after that quest, with some tissue. Once I had composed myself and went back to my house, there it was again when Anders came up.

What an emotional plot line in the game. I wish I could have done something to save her and I spent an hour looking up if I could have prevented it.

Even my husband said it hit him emotionally when that happened with Hawke's mom.

Dunno if this is off-topic in this thread, but has anyone figured out if Anders has a theme on the soundtrack? Fenris has a named theme, but I figured all of the companions have them, even if they're not explicitly named after them. I thought it might be "Rogue Heart" - seems to fit.

If I remember correctly, his gift is an escape route. Would he really go all "I don't want your stupid escape route. It'd probably lead straight to TEMPLARS anyway"?

No, he's pleasantly surprised and says something like "Every time I think you don't understand you go and do something like this."

That's the beauty of fiction!  We can indulge in these fantasy relationships that would be remarkably unhealthy in real life.

Aw, Rival Fenris gets some foreshadowing in if you take him to the Fade, basically saying that he hopes he's not around when Hawke's trust in mages blows up in her face.

I have to thank you, leggywillow, I had no idea how awesome romancing multiple LIs in one game would be. I even got Isabela in on it and when Anders and Fenris started sniping at each other, she told them to get over themselves, "I did her, too."

LOL!  I didn't get that!  Be warned, though... if you flirt or sleep with Isabela, your ending is probably going to glitch and Varric will say that all the companions left Hawke "except for Isabela" instead of Anders (or Fenris).  ::grumble::

I was desperately hoping to have Isabela chime in with something but she never did.  D:

Oh, I agree.  It's an exceedingly messed up relationship on both sides.  Which is part of what makes it so delicious.  But if anything, my Hawke can be even worse than Anders.  I doubt she would've felt the same guilt that Anders felt over blowing up the Chantry and sparking a war.  She's more like Azula than Harley Quinn.

I was actually thinking it might be "Mage Pride". I'm trying to play the game and pay attention to when songs play, but I get so distracted, lol!

Apparently Anders is such a devoted boyfriend that he refuses to leave my Hawke's side, even though he's no longer among the living.

What can I say? It killed me to do it but Meredith had a point about letting things go unpunished, he was getting increasingly unstable, and my Hawke was too rational for any fantasy 'love conquers all' illusions.

Oh my goodness. THAT had me laughing so hard I snorted coffee!! Dear, Bioware...rewrite please. XD Make sure Fenris does a crazy eyebrow thing and that Anders appears rather steamed around the collar (maybe a little pulling at the collar for emphasis) and we've got an oscar!
