That's the thing about Anders. He's possessive, clingy, and borderline creepy with his expressions of affection. Meanwhile, Fenris minds his own business and goes about his day not wanting to dwell on what transpired between him and Hawke. In my game, he said something like, "So you and Hawke are living together now? Break his heart and I will kill you." Like a friend whose intentions is only to look out for you, while Anders uses your breakup with Fenris as an opportunity.

I guess it's true that Anders always had feelings for Hawke. It's up to you whether you want to leave them unrequited or not.

Yeah, Anders is not a healthy guy. I was pleasantly surprised at the difference between the two: Fenris, for all his problems and lack of memory, is almost -- a healthy relationship. Anders is most likely not. I imagine that's why he can move in so bloody quickly and make declarations of love so easily. He does love you, but he's obsessive and possessive and petily cruel at times.

In my game, Hawke picked up a fixer-upper problem case and he knew it. He isn't exactly happy about it (especially because Anders keeps looking like one of those old houses you're going to do better to burn downfor the insurance money), but it's not exactly sensible who you end up being extremeley fond of.

I've pretty much convinced myself that either way, any relationship with Anders is going to end in a murderous rampage.

Situation A: You leave him, temporarily forgetting that you're breaking the heart of an emotionally unstable abomination [demon-possessed-mage[/s] man who's timesharing his body with a very, very angry Fade spirit. MURDEROUS RAMPAGE ENSUES.

Situation B: You don't leave Anders. Unfortunately, this means you're both in pretty much constant danger (...like you weren't before). One day, you are accosted by a Templar. Or questioned by a Templar. Or perhaps the Templar is asking to borrow a cup of sugar. It doesn't matter. The point is, there is a Templar, and he is bothering you. MURDEROUS RAMPAGE ENSUES.

Situation C: You are out walking with Anders. You trip over a cobblestone and skin your knee. That cobblestone has harmed you. The cobblestone must die. MURDEROUS COBBLESTONE RAMPAGE ENSUES.

And so on.
...Well, at least it will be exciting. :3

LMFAOOOOOOO! Exactly.
Though the image of a templar just striding up to my apostate Hawke asking for sugar is great.

EDIT: Actually, I have a Fenris/Anders romance related question! I assume if you go and sleep with Anders and do not crush his heart afterwards, that stops the Fenris romance. My current MANHAWKE totally wants to rebound after Fenris had his little freakout, but I promised myself I would reach Fenris' damn conclusion at least once before I do Anders' all the way again.

Yep, it does.  I did this on my Anders romance PT.  During the 'break' with Fenris, she slept with Anders and told him that Fenris left her.  That ended things with Fenris and solidified them with Anders.  You should be good to go if you go that route.

Naw, I want to keep Fenris, not Anders, this time around. I will just let Anders EAT MANHAWKE FACE and then be all "argh I can't do this Anders I'm sorry :crying:" when he shows up at the house.

One thing that I never would have expected from Anders as an LI is all the borderline creepy expressions of affection. I always imagined him to be more of a casual romantic? His desperation for Hawke makes me sad, because it really seems like he pins pretty much all of his happiness on Hawke and he doesn't even have to be treated consistently well to get there or stay there. Knowing how many players despise him, it seems like something cruel that BW has done in giving us this intensely emotional, devoted and broken man and making him someone who can also inspire so much hatred.

And this isn't even getting into the tragedy of where he started in Awakening.

Yeah this. It makes me want to be nice to him since he's screwed regardless.

Poor guy just wants a rock. Not that having one helps much.

Okay so I'm continuing my For science! Rivalry without romance Anders playthrough.

I got to the Justice Quest and helped him out, Justice told me to GTFO again but instead of sounding lost and afraid Anders said there had to be something he could do before walking off.

Hopefully this is the right track.

Hey Ryzaki!

Please keep us updated! I'm so curious...Do you know what you did differently this time to get his varied response?

Nothing that I didn't do on the rivalry romance path. I'm continuing to plead with him to see things from the normal person's view, try to work within the system, that Vengeance is dangerous. (Granted a few convos were overridden by romance dialogue sadly D: )

Shouldn't be much longer now before I know if it made a difference.

I also ratted him out to Cullen. The look on Anders' face.

I just ate 12 sausage patties.
I had all of my focus on DA2 (Arishok fight) and I just ate whatever my BF set in front of me for dinner. I know this is totally OT, but....12 SAUSAGE PATTIES! Oh god, I feel the heartburn coming.

I ate German red cabbage. ugh.

That sounds....positively terrifying. :?
lol My BF has no clue what to make for dinner when I ask him to cook.
I mean, really? I feel like making him write an essay. "Sausage patties - breakfast. Unless I'm craving them. Spaghetti or something equally delicious but involving chicken or pork - dinner. Turkey/cheese/ham sandwich - lunch."
I once asked him to make me breakfast, he made me two eggo waffles....and mashed potatoes. Ahhh well, I still love him.

German food can be awesome or terrifying. :D

My husband can cook some awesome food though. Not bad for a dude who had a refrigerator full of Miller Lite and ketchup when I met him.

One of these days, I'm going to have to do a rivalmance. I was intending to use my MageHawke and Fenris, but MageHawke is just too damned nice.
And I'd use AssassinHawke and Anders... but AssassinHawke likes Justice (or Vengeance, or whatever the hell he's calling himself these days). Like, a lot.
Curses.
One day, m'friends. ONE DAY.

Showed the game to my inlaws who were over for dinner. Specifically the Anders intro scene.

"How did you get that guy to look like M___?"

Me: "I didn't." rofl
Them: Well, that's weird.
Me: "Yeppers.
Them: "Is he famous?"
Me: "In a way."

OMG I was dying.

"in a way"

Believe is or not,  my own MiL asked me how much I could make "renting him out."
He was standing right there too.

What if you lie and say nothing happened?
(While Fenris runs around with your crest on his belt and a red something tied around his wrist)

I didn't lie to Anders, so I don't know.  I never took an official broken heart option with Fenris.  I just slid right into Anders (harhar, no pun intended).  Fenris will wear the crest and scarf for the remainder of the game even if you have hooked up with someone else, just FYI.  It's actually kind of sad in a way.

In real life, that would be the most unhealthy and dependent relationship ever and I would recommend that sane people run away as fast as they can.  But Anders is such a woobie.  He NEEDS his Hawke!

Well on my Pro-templar run I told Cullen that I suspected 'one of my companions' of plotting against the Chantry (I couldn't tell Elthina because she kept brushing me off with a 'I hope you're not trying to talk me out of staying again' and I wasn't about to say it in front of Anders!) and he replied that he was also suspicious of Anders and had ordered a raid on Darktown to bring him in but Anders was nowhere to be found. Evidently, Cullen hadn't heard that Anders had openly moved in with Hawke...

Ahh! I missed that on my pro-templar one, glad the opportunity is there to tell someone, I kept going back to Elthina and Sebastian with no luck. Thanks! Poor Cullen - not the worlds greatest detective there

I know what you mean. It's like I'm some kind of hapless observer who can see the train wreck coming, but can't do anything to stop it.
Anders is all sweet and desperate and sad and okay, maybe a little bit crazy, but Hawke is no paragon of emotional well-being either. And it just kind of clicks.
And I'm standing behind them both, frantically waving my arms and screaming "MURDEROUS RAMPAGE PEOPLE, MURDEROUS RAMPAGE"
But do they listen?
Noooooooooo.

I make a horrible relationship guru. >.>

It's also the reason why I miss Awakening Anders something fierce, but the story wouldn't be what it is without him being that woobie. He seemed more confidant, but then again, I know it was bravado and deflection on his part, until he warmed up to me and his fellow party members.

I wish Oghren, Sigrun, Velanna, and Nate went to Kirkwall and held an intervention with the WC as the mediator, and Zev and Leliana there ready to cut a **** should they try to run.

So in all my play throughs so far I run off with Anders at the end. I wish I could get myself deviate and try Fenris but I haven't been able to.

My husband asked why my "champion" would run off with Anders after what he did and I told him well she isn't right herself. She lost her Dad three years prior to the game, lost her brother and home at the same time, sis gets sent to circle and her mother gets killed by a crazy killer, among the other bad things she witnesses. Oh I failed to mention the love of her life has a spirit in him driving him mad.

So it was either jump off a cliff...or run off with Anders. The second seemed more fun...LOL.
