I'm torn, because usually I'm 100% in favor of people having as many ridiculous options in their games as they want.  It doesn't mean *I* have to take them, after all.  But in this case, I really wish that ending wasn't there (or that it remains impossibly bugged), because it really doesn't fit with Anders's character AT ALL.  And the poor guy really doesn't need to give even MORE fuel to his haters.

I dunno, I feel like shouting "HYPOCRITE!" at my monitor every time Anders preaches at Merrill.  And I took them both everywhere in my Nightmare game as part of my permanent party.

Yes I agree, I just tried it out on my non romanced rival path as I was there and ya know for science lol

Anyway what annoys me more is there should be a similar conversation to this templar one if you do the rivalry path and side with the mages. Also when you ask Anders if justice blew up the chantry he should say yes on the rivalry path or that path has been for nothing.

I don't know if this is bugged or just they couldn't be bothered to do a separate ending but it completely kills the rivalry path for me and all the work I put in to helping Anders see what he did was wrong and fighting against it and all the work Jennifer Helper put into making the rivlary path unique. It's like he just caves at the end and reverts to friendship conversation. I really hope this is a bug, but I imagine it's probably a case of they didn't have the time or the budget and thought it wouldn't matter

I'm not sure it's all hypocrisy. Post-Dissent Anders does kind of know what he's talking about. Sure, he willingly became an abomination (even if he's kind of in-denial about this) but he is also uniquely qualified to see all the reasons that this is a problem and to try to warn Merrill when he fears that her consorting with demons will lead to the same thing...and probably would have if Marethari hadn't intervened. Hell, even Merrill told you to be prepared to kill her.

I know what you mean.  Anders's hypocrisy really, really bothered me.  While I think his case is slightly different than other blood mages, it wasn't fair how he treated her.  I, myself, as a player and my mage character, had no tolerance for blood magic.  I felt it sullied the entire mage cause and I didn't go blood mage at all in DA2 (and probably ever will), so I'm still bothered by her actions and lack of concern regarding her clan.

I'm curious if anyone romanced Merrill, broke up with her and pursued Anders afterwards, and/or if that's even possible, I guess.  Is there any conversation about it in party banter later on, like Anders trolling Fenris about their breakup and his subsequent relationship with Hawke?

I don't know if I'd go so far as horrible, but they're definitely messed up, though depending on your play style, your Hawke can also be pretty messed up. lol!

There's perfect then there's ****ed up. They can have a happy medium of begrudging loyalty.
