Also, someone in another thread compared him to Ketojan in the ending where Hawke is able to have hin side with the templars, and I think it's perfect. At that point he's so uncertain of who he is and what he should do he's handing himself over to the ideals of another and would, figuratively, destroy himself by killing the mages because that is what is expected of him.

It's not perfect, but I really like it, especially since Anders reacts so strongly to Ketojan's argument.

Hmm, I can see that.

I also think that would be the most depressing ending possible for Anders.  Talk about utter defeat.

EDIT: Uh-oh, TOP time

I forgot how to post images, so check the link!  It' a good one I found on DeviantArt.

Vengeance would probably want to kill his own host to avenge all the people he needlessly murdered. Or if he's sufficiently screwed up, continue killing both sides to achieve some twisted idea of balance.

The latter would be very interesting. I wonder who would it need to kill other than Anders and Hawke? The circles will all be free regardless. So would it just kill templars and Hawke? Or would it kill any member of the Chantry?

It obviously doesn't discriminate between conspiritors and people just trying to get along.

At the Ketojan ending. I would like that. Complete and utter defeat would be nice to see in the templar ending.

Some also do all kinds of unspeakable things....from the front. I guess it's easier to be boldly murderous when you have most of society and the most important organization in the known world backing you.

I have to say BW did a good job in making me lose alot of sympathy for mages. So many of them lie and betray you as well as the mage supporters that it gets downright annoying.

Doesn't help that almost every mage you see is a bloodmage. <_<

Then again most people in Kirkwall seem to be made of douchery. I miss Fereldan. :(

It would need to come through the screen and kill the one playing Hawke, with FIRE!

Pfft he wouldn't be able to kill me. The second he came out his magic would stop working.  And he'd be forced out Anders' body.

I don't mind superfun time. But no one kidnaps my siblings and then threatens to kill them and expects a free pass. Especially not when I gave them public support. Idiots. <_<

Eh. I can't wait for the bugged endingto get fixed.
Then my rivalrymance won't seem saw wallbangerish near the ending. <3.

As for the ending making him a hypocrite...kind of late for that.

Dude's already a self-righteous, hypocritical, clingy, preachy person.

Though I do hope the Templar ending is as dark and gut twisting for Anders as I think it is. Gah. So juicy. Can't wait for that bug to be fixed.

Even if I'm the only one here who wants it to be.

You're not the only one. I really, really want this ending. I hope they fix all the glitchiness soon! I started a rivalmance game today, but after reading that no one was able to get the ending to work right, I might just wait to finish it in the hopes of it getting fixed in the future. I don't want to spend all that time rivaling him only to get the exact same Act III scene as the friendship romance. I've already done the friendmance; I want my angsty guilt ridden rival Anders, darn it! .....and the kiss

Okay, I'm just gonna say it. The reason I am having difficulty taking anyone who wants the templar-siding rival Anders ending seriously is because the damned kiss is always mentioned. That kiss, that to me, after all his dialogue in that scene about how he can't live past this and how he wishes that Justice rather than Vengeance emerges from his corpse, seems very much like a "goodbye" whether physically or mentally or whatever.... just, SO not worth it.

Plus, it's like half a second long anyway.

Honestly, I can't see Anders siding with the templars without disgracing himself and selling his soul a second time either. It's not appealing at all.

Believe me its not just the kiss. The whole twisting his ideals around is what I truely find appealing. I want to see the buildup the self doubt and then the inevitable crumble of everything he believes.

Granted I don't expect most people to find that appealing. I do though. Very very much.

Yeah, I was about to say...IDGAF about the kiss. I can live without a kiss.
But I just want to see the dialogue. Does anyone have a video? I'd love to see a video.
But to play it? No, probably not.

Here it is.

The part about Vengeance raging inside him and not losing himself is what I really want.

All of that just vanishes if I save the mages even while on the rivalry path. It's irritating.

And spooky. It looks like Vengeance just completely took over and is reading lines at me. Eventhe creepy way he smiles when you dump him...*shudders*.

Pssh, I couldn't care less about the templar stuff, and I really have no desire to side with the templars other than for that to get a different ending. Then again, I've sided with the mages through two playthroughs, and I am getting a bit tired of their douchery as well. lol! I'd be just as happy if he got the angsty guilt ridden stuff from siding with the mages on a rivalry playthrough; I just want it to be different from the friendship path stuff, and do want the kiss! If that make my argument invaled, then meh, but I want my romance to have proper closure! Gah! I got a kiss with Fenris at the end, and I felt royally gipped after I sided with Anders through the whole game in my friendship romance and got nothing for agreeing to run away with him. Is that so much to ask for!? *curls up in corner and cries*

Well the whole damn thing is friggin' cool.

Man, I'm not saying that's the reason y'all want it. I said that it seems that way because it's always brought up and that's when my tenuous grasp of why people want this ending lets go.

If you find it appealing to turn Anders into an even more destroyed and broken person than he is, who is practically throwing himself on every sword, dagger, pointy rock and really big splinter in Thedas then more power to you.

I just hate it.

LMFAO @ big splinter.
That's what my Hawke is for. To side with the mages and try to stable his crazy self out.
Sometimes, I feel as if I'm fighting a losing battle. But it's a fun battle, all the same. Which will have fantastic results. Hopefully. :?

Your Hawke must be all kinds of messed up. I cannot imagine the turmoil in their relationship.
Because that is twisted, really, really twisted.  And I kinda love it, in a really sick way.

I am messed up aren't I?

Still this is the lady who gave us Broodmother. I don't expect her to let me down. <3

I just wish we had a toolset. This could've been fixed soonish in that case. :(

As I see it Anders was never supposed to have a happy ending. Might as well make it as bleak as I can.

I originally wanted a lighter ending but now...now I want my heart twisting ending.

And the best part? Justice can't be blamed. ^_^

And for the record, it wasn't a condemnation of the rivalry path, just the specific instance of the rivalry path leading to Anders siding with Hawke and the templars. I do agree that there should be something[/i] different for the rivalry path at the end vs the friendship path, but not to make him even more irredeemable.

I mean, I get the he's so broken blah blah blah part because that is part of the character and it is fantastic and heartbreaking and amazing in so many ways. But I just think that having Anders siding with templars should be sufficiently ****ed up and shouldn't end the same way with Anders running off with Hawke and all that. There should be a bigger consequence than that, and that is ultimately where my issue lies.

You need a kiss for proper closure? I can't even imagine Anders feeling like kissing ANYONE after what he just did,  he was pretty emotionally exhausted, and drowning in guilt and self loathing, even on the friendship path. It's like Justice did what he needed to do and went off to relax in a nice warm bubble bath while Anders was left dealing with the emotional fallout. Sure you don't get a big steamy kiss but you DO get a verbal "I Love You" Fenris doesn't do that (no idea on those other two) but they do both give closure in their own ways.

Edited: Friend Anders also mentions having babies together and such. Not so much with Fen.

Ideally, shouldn't you be able to get this same reaction from siding with mages if you're on a rivarly path? I don't see why deciding to save the mages from Anders's stupidity should automatically undo all the work you did rivaling him. Ah well...my ladyHawkes do love running off and becoming fugitives with Anders. And when I get tired of the angst, my non-angst ending ladyHawkes still have Fenris.
