Ideally, shouldn't you be able to get this same reaction from siding with mages if you're on a rivarly path? I don't see why deciding to save the mages from Anders's stupidity should automatically undo all the work you did rivaling him. Ah well...my ladyHawkes do love running off and becoming fugitives with Anders. And when I get tired of the angst, my non-angst ending ladyHawkes still have Fenris.
You really should.
It's epecially jarring after the whole "I have more and more" blackouts with the sad face and then he turns around and "Justice and I are one." It's so...gah.
Then there's the whole "did the spirit make you do this?" and he goes no. But apparently said spirit stops him from undoing it? BAH.
Stupid bugs. This is even more annoying than my companions randomly deciding tostand around twiddling their thumbs while an Ogre hurls rocks at me.

That friggin' thing still bugs the hell out of me. I imagine it kept all my lady Wardens up at night. Especially my Dalish lady, especially after running into poor Tamlen.

Okay, I'm just gonna say it. The reason I am having difficulty taking anyone who wants the templar-siding rival Anders ending seriously is because the damned kiss is always mentioned. That kiss, that to me, after all his dialogue in that scene about how he can't live past this and how he wishes that Justice rather than Vengeance emerges from his corpse, seems very much like a "goodbye" whether physically or mentally or whatever.... just, SO not worth it.
Plus, it's like half a second long anyway.
I agree, the whole thing had this kind of last words vibe. But apparently you still run off with him? Hrng.

Pssh, I couldn't care less about the templar stuff, and I really have no desire to side with the templars other than for that to get a different ending. Then again, I've sided with the mages through two playthroughs, and I am getting a bit tired of their douchery as well. lol! I'd be just as happy if he got the angsty guilt ridden stuff from siding with the mages on a rivalry playthrough; I just want it to be different from the friendship path stuff, and do want the kiss! If that make my argument invaled, then meh, but I want my romance to have proper closure! Gah! I got a kiss with Fenris at the end, and I felt royally gipped after I sided with Anders through the whole game in my friendship romance and got nothing for agreeing to run away with him. Is that so much to ask for!? *curls up in corner and cries*
You need a kiss for proper closure? I can't even imagine Anders feeling like kissing ANYONE after what he just did, he was pretty emotionally exhausted, and drowning in guilt and self loathing, even on the friendship path. It's like Justice did what he needed to do and went off to relax in a nice warm bubble bath while Anders was left dealing with the emotional fallout. Sure you don't get a big steamy kiss but you DO get a verbal "I Love You" Fenris doesn't do that (no idea on those other two) but they do both give closure in their own ways.
Well, there was closure, but I did the Fenris romance first, and I.....I just wanted a kiss okay? My ladyHawke felt rather let down after she basically gave up any chance at a normal life to be with him. That's just me, though, and I'm weird like that.

And good news, I can post my fanfic. Bad news. I still have no title.
Call it "The Untitled".
I ended up calling it "For the Birds" I'm sure I'll get it to make sense at some point.

I don't think Anders should be able to side with the templars. That's like Alistair saying "LOL K let's bring Loghain with us! It'll be great!" except a million times more effed up. I *DO* think we should get some different ending dialogue for a rivalry romance, though.
Also, has it been confirmed that Anders actually can side with the templars WITHOUT using that debug trick or whatever? Has anyone been able to get it work in just the plain vanilla game? When I tried it out of curiosity, I couldn't get it to work.

Guess its a bug keeping it from triggering because I am getting the dialogue to argue with him about his methods and how demonic Justice and Anders is relenting.
It just doesn't change his dialogue at all during blowing up the Chantry. Which i think is the bug. I think those talks are supposed to lead to a different dialogue branch during the Chantry incident. It just refuses to trigger. The default tree is where he always goes "hell no I'm not sidin with the templars." but it also says he and Justice are one. Something he doesn't believe fully on the rivalry path. And it says he knowingly planted the bomb and willingly went through with it. Something defintely not true on the rivalry path.

I can't either.
I've tried like five times with every friggin' dialogue option EVAR. And all I get is, "I'd rather die".

Not gonna lie, if Anders tried kissing my Hawke at that point in time, even if they're fighting for the mages, Hawke would deck him. Hell, he probably wouldn't even want to look at him for the moment, even if they're possibly going to die very soon.
Anders: (goes in for a kiss)
Hawke: DUDE! WTF! You really think I want you all over me right now? Really? You just BLEW UP A FREAKING CHANTRY. Just to let you know, I'm siding with the mages because THEIR DEATH WOULD BE UNFAIR. Not because I agree with what you've just done. BAD! BAD ANDERS! -slap-

What kind of normal life are we talking here? The life of a normal vigilante noble who can't mind her own business and gets caught up in anything remotely interesting that goes on? That sounds kind of like a contradiction of terms. My ladyHawke felt rather let down after she basically gave up any chance at a normal life to be with him.

Exactly the point I made yesterday.
Hawke is exactly like the Warden. She was automatically doomed to never have a normal life, so what exactly is she throwing away by running away with a wanted apostate? Hm?

As I see it Anders was never supposed to have a happy ending. Might as well make it as bleak as I can.
I originally wanted a lighter ending but now...now I want my heart twisting ending.
And the best part? Justice can't be blamed.
When has complete degradation of a character ever been sexy or desirable? I cannot even make this work in my brain without latching on to crackpot stuff like the Ketojan parallels, let alone think that anyone would find it satisfying in the least that their Hawke ends up with a man who has, basically, allowed him/her to replace the demon that has been plaguing him for years.
And who's to say that Justice can't be blamed in the end? Justice actually has more control over a rivaled Anders because he is literally taking control on a regular basis and making Anders do things that he doesn't want to do. There is no real indication that Anders will be able to stop that from happening again. And, with the final twisting of his ideals that comes with making him annul the Circle, there will be so little of the Anders who has been able to fight him left...
There's unhappy endings (almost any where Anders is killed, or dies protecting the mages) and bittersweet endings (the friendmance ending where they run away together). This ending is ****ed up in a bad way because it completely destroys a character to their core, rendering them almost unrecognizeable. If you want to make it happen in your game, awesome. But please be prepared for people who actually like Anders as a character to find the whole thing absolutely repugnant. Because it is.

As for Anders completely losing himself. Odd how he seems completely in control of himself during the speech then.

Varric: So you're running off with Blondie
Hawke: Yeah, I guess so. I just... it'll be hard, y'know? Life will never be normal again.
Varric: Ah, you mean you'll never get to murder raider gangs by the dozens.

Hawke: Of course I'll still do that!

Varric: ::sigh:: Somehow I don't think you'll find your new life too different, sweetie.

The chance to setlle down in a forest somewhere and have little broody elf babies, what else?! lol! Basically, I meant she was opting for a life where she'd always be on the run as opposed to one where she might possibly be able to quit looking over her shoulder so much at some point. Then again, considering the kind of people Hawke attracts, it might be better to be on the run.

Either because they're fighting a war or in hiding (with Anders railing against Vengeance) happy ever after just isn't in the cards.
I got rivalry points with Anders without being overly nasty to him. Hawke was abit crass when it came to rogue mages (and sent all of them to the circle with the exception of bloodmages who were killed) but he never insulted Anders or anything. (He did constantly grind Anders gear with how he felt Justice was a bad influence and he needed to seek out more peaceful solutions.).
