Yeah, I tend to like stories that rip my heart out and stomp it to mush. Honestly, nothing in DAO affected me the same way, much less the conflict in Alistair's romance. He was my favorite but it amounted to "BABIESSSS". So I just stayed on as mistress or ran off with him. Happy ending is as happy.

DA2 supplemented by the Anders romance? Bawling at every turn like a big dumb baby. Emotional impact, whee.

Totally with you here.  I tend to love the stories that are just so heartachingly painful.  DA2 was like an angstgasm.

Yeah I agree, I don't know if my first playthrough would have had that extra hard punch in the gut had Hawke romanced anyone else. Or no one.

I mean, I'd still have been bawling. But the guy getting his Terrorism merit badge wouldn't have been Hawke's boyfriend. So.

I still have a friend or two who haven't played yet and I'm trying to convince them to romance Anders their first playthrough. Hopefully they get back to me yelling and ripping their hair out and cursing my name :D

Yeeeah.

The whole second half of Anders "three years later" codex entry is a kicker, too. Something about the line where he remains a "tender and devoted lover" in private kills me.

Guuuuh, ikr?  Alistair/My Cousie hadn't even known each other that long when she was like "LAWL LET'S GET HITCHED YEE HAW."  Three years.  :crying:

This is how I cheer myself up after DA2's ending.  Isabela did offer Hawke a place on her ship and even said Anders could come along.  I like to imagine that they take her up on that for a little while until they figure out whatever the hell they're doing next.

Spending time sailing on the ultimate Party Boat would do wonders for my Hawke's mood.  I can imagine my chipper, batsh**-crazy little rogue quickly getting over her angst by climbing around in the rigging for hours.  I can also see Anders constantly yelling for her to get down before she falls and breaks all her bones AGAIN.  I think the sea air and physical labor of sailing a ship would be good for Anders, too.

My LadyHawke wasn't actually friends with Isabella, so she took off and never came back. No party boat for her. :crying: My dudes so far are all good to go, though. My first ManHawke in particular, as he is doin' Isabella's favorite blood mage, and you know she wants to monitor that situation in case she actually does have to cut his balls off for hurting her. <3

In my defense of my first playthrough, I didn't realise just how awesome Isabella would turn out, and I was still crabby about her not wearing any pants. I am a pants fascist. :(

Killed me too. I felt a little used and rage-y after the ending for a couple days but then I went back and read that and was like goddammit Bioware.

And that line about Anders repeatedly saying that Hawke's the only reason he has any sanity at all. Argh. It's creepy and sad and I love it.

Fenris is a fixer-upper. Anders is a watch-him-fall-apart-er. I prefer the latter idk.

Sheryl writes characters I would want as my BFF so I don't know if Isabela will leave the friendzone, like Leliana haha ;~;

Yeah, my feelings on Fenris are about as confused as the character himself.

You know, I swear there was a moment there where I got so fed up with all the angst and the crazy and the fear of commitment and the... blood magic... that I just threw up my hands and disgust and went, "Fine. Screw all y'all, I'm going to find someone sensible and badass with a minimum of emotional baggage. Orsino. You. Me. Bed. NOW."
...
Of course, five minutes later I was all "FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU NOT YOU TOO", but it was worth a shot.
I swear to god, Thedas must be where the rest of fantasyland dumps all its crazies.

Erm. Well, I guess ASOIAF can come too. But you get my point.

Hawke. Warden. Apparently, the only two crisis counselors on the entire damn planet.

.____.

Something about it broke my heart. It's like his "I'm glad I got to be happy for a little while" or whatever line. It's self destructive and not healthy, but I imagine that would be the reason anyone would stay around this man falling apart: because at least the process is somehow made less painful by his lover's prescence.

Presence.

Pre-- by his lover being there. Whatevs!

Seriously.  Anders undeniably has a creepy dependence on Hawke.  And it is sad and at the same time so sweet.

His last Codex entry was the most depressing and heartbreaking thing in the entire game for me.  It even beat out the big explosion and possibly murder-knifing Anders.  I don't know why, but it hit me like a punch to the stomach more than anything else in the game.  I could just see Anders in a deep melancholy, maybe not even speaking to Hawke for days, and then later see him pacing around ranting in a manic episode, working on his manifesto.

But through all that he tried his damn hardest to be a "tender and devoted lover" to Hawke.  He tried!

And on the romances, very yes. Anders makes a great tragic relationship for a story, but I definitely wouldn't want to get involved with someone similar in real life.

Unless this someone really is possessed by our equivalent of a Fade spirit, I'm not interested.
...Actually, wait, no. I take that back. If said hypothetical person did have a Fade spirit living in his head, I'd be even MORE inclined to run and hide down a very deep, very small hole, because I am squishy and nonathletic and have no magical powers whatsoever except the power to make some ****in' French toast.
I would throw many large, heavy objects into his path. And scream like a banshee.

I won't forget this.

Also, one of the main reasons I am redoing my canon is so that I can get Isabela's friendship high enough for her to not abandon me forever :crying: She is the greatest and I want Hawke and Anders to leave with her on the Party Boat too ;~;

Yeah. As someone that's done depression before and watched it, it's a **** to read.

Not speaking, not eating, not getting out of bed, then suddenly, up and busy and unable to talk about anything else but the mages -- then realizing he nearly killed that girl and spiraling down again or throwing himself at his clinic-work.

That would just make my Hawke snark more.

On a less depressing (but maybe more worrisome) note, when I click to refresh this page, it says "Redirecting to www.catnipples.com"... and I'm unsure what this means.  I'm frightened.

And on that note, I'm going to bed.  XD

...Now I can't help seeing the cure for everything that has plagued Anders--and possibly all of Thedas--being some ****in' French toast. Everybody'd be more sane and stop summoning demons all over the place if they stopped skipping breakfast?

The codex entry was brutal. I'm glad my first play through the game was a mage who romanced Anders. The only game I've ever played that made me name a savegame FFFFFFUUUUUUU

The whole thing had a kind of Padme/Anakin dynamic. The whole chantry scene I wanted to scream out "YOU'RE BREAKING MY HEART ANDERS!" and "This is a path I can't follow!".  But its not like he didn't give my Hawke a heads up. The guy delivers.

But my Hawke didn't instantly go into labor with twins and give up on life, she took control and saved Kirkwall instead.

Hawke > Padme

Heeeeeh.

I suck at this romantic, emotional thing, because my Hawke's response was mostly FFFFFFUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKKK. And anger. Lots of anger. He wanted to wring Anders' scrawny, poorly shaved neck, he did.

Because nothing says love like that absolute terror/panic that skips directly from "I'm scared!" to "I'm SO ANGRY".

*looks around*  That would be my fault.  One my images is hosted on that domain.  Work joke that resulted in me buying the domain and now I use it to park images, none of which are of cat nipples.
