I have a hard time not being mages now is because they're so fun now. :pinched:

I just went back to Awakening a couple days ago and it felt so alien to play as a mage in that game again. I'd just sit back there with my stick with Anders while mashing the A button like a fool.

His battle cries sound funny with DAO mage animations after playing DAII. :P

I found being a mage on the PC to be EXTREMELY satisfying.  I was like the battle commander... oh, enemies coming up, let me nuke them with some storm AOE, not once, but twice (hello two mage party muahaha).. and then let Sigrun and Oghren mop up the stranglers, while Anders/V. and I disable any mages or elites/bosses.

It was... epic.  Seriously... epic.  Plus I imported a character that was pretty much the highest you can get in DA:O, respecced before the end of DA:O (oh toolset!) to have the perfect complement of spells.  It was... as I said... EPIC.
I *heart* mages.

I also adore the idea of Hawkette and Anders, two mages on the run... too bad it can't happen with my blood mage :( cause my blood mage has this inability to DIE.  Redid the forbidden knowledge quest this time around and even when I wasn't paying attention enough (it's insane, that last bit, how many demons can you spawn people?!?!), my mage was the only one left alive.  Not Anders, my blood mage.  They just couldn't kill her, LOL.  I reloaded and paid attention and killed them like nothing, but still... I was super impressed.  My blood mage is a beast.

@RinjiRenee In my head, he hates those robes because his chest gets freckly when he wears them. And they stink. His commander, however, does not care. For obvious, objectification, reasons. She figures as long as she's letting him kill templars, she should be able to keep him in whatever robes she wants.

I thought that was in DA2. Didn't he just want to avoid them in awakening?

And he isn't even shooting lightning.

It is just that one time in Awakening, during Freedom for Anders. Still, it's three templars and one of them is his personal albatross. It should count for *something*.

@DragonRacer:
For rivalHawke, you could always make a somewhat resentful Hawke. She loves her sister, but thinks life might have been easier if they hadn't always been on the run. After all, Bethany will say herself that it might have been easier if she'd just gone to the Circle. Then, since she seems relatively happy in the Circle when she gets taken away, it would justify your Hawke's belief that the Circle is for the best. As for her relationship with Anders, she could still think mages should be treated better but believe that the Circle is a necessary evil. Thus she would disagree over his extremism.

I dunno. That's the best I can think of. My warrior Hawke was super pro-mage so she was friendship all the way (maxed out by the time Act 2 started). Oh, and I was the one who mentioned Anders hiding behind my warrior Hawke. I think it was just a happy fluke. As to where characters are positioned... I don't know. Even in Act 3 I seem to recall Anders always being by her side.

I was glad I played a warrior just because, had I been a mage, Hawke and Anders would have been way too similar. My first playthrough, my warrior Hawke was all about the mage cause. I figure it's a miracle the rest of the gang didn't just ditch her and Anders.

Hawke: Mages mages mages mages mages! Rights!
Anders: Mages mages mages mages mages! Freedom!
*cue hot headed revolutionary sex*

Has anyone tried having an all mage party?

Hmm, I don't think I ever did.  My "kill everyone" party was Fenris, Anders and Merrill.  Too bad I need a rogue to open chests *arg*.  I swear, all points go to cunning until 40 points on all the rogues, without fail.  They become barely useful in battle but I'm not doing another "omg, chest, but I cannot open it".  I don't think you can have an all mage party.  Bethany is dead as a PC mage and you only have Anders and Merrill.
I don't think any of the games had enough mages to do 4 mage party.

That would be a force to be reckoned with ;)

The world would explode if my Hawke and Warden ever meet.

o.O The world would be engulfed in flames hahaha.
Damn, that is an awesome party... Hawke, Anders, Merrill and mage warden... wow.  Just wow.
Except they couldn't open chests.  Yes, I am that gung ho about opening every single chest and container ever! LOL

My Warden was ready to dump Allistair for Anders. There would be a cat fight.

I was a little hotter under the collar for Nathaniel, who was that game's resident King of Brooding. When I saw him in DA2 I wanted to run to him like "NATHANIEL YOU MANLY PILLAR OF SANITY, HELP MEEEE"

. Any suggestions? Or am I doomed to play a hypocritical Hawke I can’t stand just to see the Anders rival-mance?

Someone wrote a pretty heart-wrenching pro-templar (that ends up siding with the mages but killing Anders) rivalmance story that was... oh my, made me cry.  However, in that one Hawke was using Anders in the romance for half the time and only fell in love with him after the death of her mother.  That may not be something you wish to do.
You could just do a Hawke that just wants peace, thinks the circle has its issues but just needs improvement... and is against any and all abominations (including Anders).
I did a somewhat similar playthrough, but with the added thing that my Hawke respected her friends and was just trying to keep peace... so she didn't antagonize Anders, just supported him and tried to help him, but also didn't force him to participate in bringing mages back to the circle.  We ended up friends, but I can see how one can easily achieve rivalry by just choosing to bring him with rather than leave him at home.

My Warden loved and flirted with Anders, but she was still all about Alistair. Anders was missing a certain something still. In the end, he was totally friend-zoned. So I can imagine my Warden and Hawke hanging out with few problems. Although... my Hawke would probably end up depressing my Warden.

My mage warden thought Anders was cute, but that was it. She was all serious business by this point. And missing her grey warden Alistair.
Anders and Justice were like her best buds, next to Sigrun and Oghren.
I mean, she put Anora in power just to keep her man, I'm fairly certain she wouldn't leave him for some cute boy, no matter how cute or hot he is.
Plus Alistair's face when he asks about Zevran... (oh yes, warden flirted with the elf!) I'm sure my warden did not want to see that sad face again, lol

LOL, I dunno.  I think my canon Hawke is going to be diplomatic but sarcastic at times too.  The type to say "oh yes, I summoned a demon, of course I did", LOL.
My warden was way more serious than my Hawke's going to be, lol

Haha, well yes, my Hawke was mostly diplomatic with a liberal sprinkling of snark, so she was much funnier than my Warden who was mostly about business. However, I think she would depress my Warden when she told the Warden how Anders was doing. Anders was the one to keep my Warden laughing while she was missing Alistair. Granted, since my Hawke was generally snark Hawke with friends, maybe she would find a funny way to talk about Anders to the Warden.

I really like your suggestion - think I'll combine it with the "don't like extremist views" Hawke that UpsettingShorts offered up.

As far as positioning. Maybe my save file just fluked after that, but Anders insisted on sitting in the back the rest of the entirety of Act 3... despite being always the first one I selected at party screen time (which, prior to completing "Justice", always netted him the right-hand position). Very strange, but it made it a very poetic and sad sort of thing.

My canon Warden is pretty much *shrug* about most things, but she does love the ones she loves, so meeting Anders in a post-DA2 situation would probably break her heart. I don't even think she could be jealous of Hawke, considering everything.

I did notice that position change on Margaret's game.  Are you on the 360?

I'd check again, but the Hawke I'm currently playing gets Fenris.

Even FENRIS tells him to back off.  When Fenris, broody sexy mage-hater extraordinaire thinks you're an idiot to cross Hawke, you should probably listen.

Also, Anders pic!

Anyone know what scene this pic is specifically from? I only finished one playthrough so far and I don't recall this scene?

FTR, I've had this problem before the outfit change. It seems to depend on who's in your party. I can't remember what the combo was now, but when I had those other two party members, he defaulted to the rear every time. I switched out party members and he got back into place by my side.

Hmm, now I really want to know. Like I said, I personally don't remember him changing position, but the entirety of Act 3 was a blur to me. After the "Justice" quest, I was in "Oh no, what did you do?!" mode until I got to the end of the game. I haven't gotten to Act 3 in any of my other playthroughs yet. Oh, and I am on a 360.

My warden would cry and then scream and then... I'm fairly certain some wardens would die followed by many templars.
Mage warden would end the war by killing all templars in anger.  Yeah, I can see it.
And yes... she'd miss the funny little brother than Anders was... but then again, I think she'd like this new Anders "the cause! the cause!" since she's kind of like that...

Lol, yes. This might be a problem. My Warden would be simultaneously deprsessed about what happened with Anders and find him very attractive. She was very cause oriented which is why Mr. Duty Duty Duty Alistair fit her well.

Moira Surana would go past rage to that ice cold murderous thing she gets when she's really pissed off.  First, she'd yell at both Justice and Anders.  Let Margaret Hawke have it, then pick up her sword and continue that revolution, dragging Alistair and Zevran along with her.

You know... until she disappeared.  Please for the love of God, Bioware, don't pull a Revan.

Hmmm, strangeness. My problem definitely wasn't related to the party members. By mid-way through Act 1, I had decided my A-Team was Anders, Merrill, and Varric -- in that order every time -- so that's why it caught me as such a surprise and stood out when Anders suddenly did that.

That robe thing Hawkette wears around the house is not terribly attractive.
Though I should not complain, it's better than most rogue armour which is unbelievably ugly *mutters angrily at being a ROGUE and being so unsexy*
