You know what, I've been thinking...
And I just don't give a damn if Anders is going through my Hawke's clothes...oh well.
Worst things could happen. :P

ADD: Just looked at the clock and realized I sent BF to get KFC FIVE HOURS AGO. He's probably shopping. And hanging out with his family. While I starve slowly over here. :pinched: How time flies when you're playing video games.

He smiles far too rarely.

His eeeeeeeeyes! I don't care if he has an entire Room of Crazy and a second, secret, manifesto entitled "Why I Am The Only One Who Can Ever Appreciate The Splendor That Is Hawke And All Others Can DIAF", all he'd have to do is look at me like that and I'd be gone.

Exactly.  I don't care if he has built a statue out of Hawke out of her discarded underpants.  He is just too cute to creep me out.

My Hawke probably encourages it.

Sanity, stability and generally not being a gigantic creeper are all horribly overrated.

What's fun about a completely stable relationship?
Like that one song says..."You're a hot mess, and I'm loving it, HELL YES."

Question for you guys - I'm sure that this has come up before in 350+ pages, but I'm not about to go through them all - do you think that the friend or rival path are better for Anders?  I went full friend, as the rival responses always seemed pretty douchy; it isn't as if he didn't already know that merging with Justice was a bad move.  As a friend/lover, my femHawke always tried to support his cause while tempering his somewhat extreme leanings.  Obviously she wasn't successful, and seeing his deterioration over the course of the game broke my heart.

Not that a rivalmance would be more successful at holding him together, but on another thread I read some speculation that being challenged helps him to claw back pieces of himself.  And, I'll admit, I feel just terrible that my character, by taking a softer approach, might have just been enabling him.  (She certainly bought that potion ruse hook, line and sinker.)

Yep, my Hawke too.  She is pretty much the most batsh**-insane and whacky space cadet Cloudcuckoolander in Thedas.  She's a strange lady, so Anders creeping her out with his insane obsession with her is not in the cards.

My Hawkettes are so not sane, they swoon at words like "I will drown us in blood to protect you" and "I would break your heart and that would kill me as surely as the templars"...
Even if they're trying to stay away from Anders, they're still swooning.
I have yet to make a Hawkette who doesn't admire and have a painful crush on Anders.

No wonder Fenris hates Anders. No wonder.
Oh Hawkette, what do you do to men? Drive them crazy, that's what!

Is it bad that I've made a save of a Hawke, Fenris, Anders and Izzy party right before a conversation trigger point, just so I can hear the two boys growling over Hawke with Izzy chiming in, "I did her too." at the end?
It's one of my favourite banters, if only because I can imagine my Hawke oblivious to the three of them while eyeing up the handsome guard over by that pillar.

@Blauwis It has been discussed at great length. Some think friend, some think rival. I think friend.

I've never gotten that banter and it makes me angry.
It's so much work to sleep with all three and NOT ****** someone off, that I completely deserve it. It's too bad I never have Isabela in my party, though...she hates everything I do.

I think it all pretty much just comes down to individual tastes. Some people prefer acceptance, some prefer the fight, and I think most people agree that he's going to be pretty broken in either scenario. We've talked about it at length and in the end, there really isn't a right answer. He still blows up the chantry, and from what Ms Hepler has said, he still wants to die for it. How you get to that point is a matter of personal preference.

In regards to Anders-ish songs, Goodnight, Travel Well by the Killers seems to really fit. Another depressing one, but ah well. www.youtube.com/watch

@blauwvis: It has indeed been discussed, many times over, and at great length. I would suggest just scanning through until you see the word friendship or rivalry. I definitely have my opinion but at this point I don't even want to touch it. My feelings on the matter just get stronger each time.

Tell me about it. I'm trying to pull a Fenris (who leaves) then Isabela (for fun and maybe a little spite) then Anders (to rebound) and it is TOTAL WORK. And still not happening for me even though I've got Fenris at 100% friendship (and OMG that was some work) and we finished his quest in Act II. *sigh* I'm about to give it all up and just fall into Anders' arms.

If that makes you a bad person, then that makes me one, too. Because part of the reason I'm trying for all three of them this time is to hear the jealousy banter and that one in particular.

What's better just depends on who you want to see suffer more. The friend path is more torment for Hawke, and the rival path is more torment for Anders. So many different flavors of delicious tragedy porn!

That's the order I do it in! lol
First thing I do in Act 2 is get Fenris's gift. Then I show up in his mansion, give him his gift, catch up with him, and if I do things right, I can get his Questioning Beliefs quest in. Then I go to the Wounded Coast and start his personal quest, finish that, bed him, he leaves me.
Then I go to the Hanged Man, hit on Isabela, bed her, she leaves me.
Then I go straight to Anders, give him his gift, flirt hardcore, and then it's just a waiting game. :) You don't get Dissent until after Blackpowder Courtesy is finished...if you pick all the right options during the quest and during his Questioning Beliefs afterwards, you've got yourself an Anders.
^_^ Fenris won't romance you if you flirt with anyone else before you hit on him in Act 2.

The key is to the cellar right by Anders' clinic.
That way if the templars show up, he has a quick escape.

(Think Birthright quest...when you enter the cellar entrance right by the clinic, which leads to your estate? Basically, Hawke is giving him the key to THAT.)

or more likely just intermittently abandon his patients to sniff Hawke's laundry

...Wait, he doesn't have a chance to. He's ALWAYS in my party. :D :D

I'm afraid Anna Hawke will be giving him plenty of opportunity for sneaking off and obsessing over her underwear drawer.  She prefers the broody elf with the big sword.   What can I say, she's got issues.  Just... not the same ones as Margaret.

You know what I find oddly creepy (but intriguing as well)? ... That your Hawke's names are the same as mine and my sister's o____o

Margaret and Anna?  Really?  ROTFLMAO.  Margaret's sorta morphed from my Meghan Shepard and Anna's just so I wouldn't have yet ANOTHER Avery.

But doesn't it contradict his final words in the Gallows, if you spare him?

I don't think he wanted to die. He thought Hawke would never spare him, not matter how close they were. But once Hawke spares him, Anders wants to fight for this revolution with Hawke. He clearly says so ^_^

This is random, but... I would kill for a mod that changes Anders' facial hair to match the hair on his head. Nothing else; I love his face, his hairstyle is good as it is... well, maybe a mod to make him shirtless when he tries to seduce you would be nice. But the whole pale hair/dark facial hair thing DA2 has going on kinda leaves me cold.

Too bad every "sexy Anders" or "Anders improved!" or "handsome Anders" mod changes his face completely and, in my opinion, makes it quite unattractive. I prefer subtle changes on the whole, and with Anders I wouldn't want anything changed except the facial hair color.

I love Anders as a character, it's just when I look at that facial hair, it's a bit jarring. I don't like distractions, even minor ones, and I would really like to get rid of this one. Wish I was clever enough to mod it myself.

I'll just add my experience on the rivalmance, not giving any advice because really it is just a personal taste.
But to be honest, I'm getting rivalry points and I am discovering that sending mages to the Circle is actually not always some completely douche anti-mage choice. I just sent Feynriel to the Circle and the Blood Mages with Thrask for example, and Hawk lines are more of the "it is safer for you, believe me" - I thought they would be more "you are dangerous, die mages!". I'm finding that actually siding with *some* templar choices is not that bad.
With Anders I'm pretty friendly, no nneed to be douchy with him...he gets enough rivarly points if you take him to mage related quests. I can't resist that pout anyway xD

There's a conversation that crops up between Isabela and Anders that indicates Anders did want/expect to die for his actions. Not necessarily because he thought Hawke would never forgive him (though I'm sure that factors in, depending on how you played out the relationship) or because he 'just wanted to be a martyr (though once again, I'm sure that factors into it, if only to make the thought of 'death' more comforting) but because at the end of the day, Anders didn't want to blow up a chantry and subsequently harm/kill a bunch of innocent people. He just felt he had to in an 'ends justify the means' kind of way.

Isabela: You want to free the mages. Let's say you do, but to get there, you kill a bunch of innocent people. What about them? Don't they deserve justice?

Anders: Yes.
