If he hadn't done what he did, the whole situation could possibly have been dealt with in a more peaceful way.

There would've been no peaceful resolution while Meredith lived.  She held most of the power in the city and was absolutely insane.  The only other influential person in Kirkwall happened to be Hawke, but it's made very, very clear in Act 3 that even the Champion doesn't have the clout to openly declare war on Meredith, especially if Hawke is an apostate.

I don't think there could've been a peaceful solution to Kirkwall.  It's very telling that there's a peaceful resolution to DA:O's Circle quest, and no peaceful resolution for DA2.  But I'm sure the mage/templar issue could've been solved peacefully elsewhere in Thedas...a possibility that Anders shattered.

Jeez Anders. I know they don't like each other, but that's just as bad as his comment to Merrill after her quest.
I would suppose if the exact opposite would happen (Anders given to templars) the reaction would be all the same. Just in reverse.

Which is why I tend to just stick to a single character thread due to how awful posters get to each other because "THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE." :P I loved Fenris too. Will make a Hawke for him next time.

They're dislike of each other was mutual anyways.

Damn it, Bioware writers! You always break my heart on my first playthroughs! First time with DAO and Alistair dumps me when he becomes King, first time with DA2 and my Anders blows up the chantry?? You sure know how to manipulate your poor romantic players :P

This can only mean one thing. ANDERS FANART TIME! *gets busy sketching*

Yes, my first play-through was ridden with emotions. Man.Had to play through the mother quest during my second play-through last night. Ugh...I figure if I want to romance everyone at least once, I'll need 12 play-throughs or something. Since I can't seem to resist our resident revolutionary.

I've converted 5 non-gamers today just by showing them the kiss scene.

"Wait...what? This stuff is in video games?"

I have no problem calling Anders out or for that matter Orsino, they were both driven mad by their ideals that they both became monsters, Merrideth on the other hand is a bit harder since the whole evil artifact thing, but Orsino just became the physical being of his ideal, whereas Anders remained pretty much the same looking yet he was every bit as grotesque as Orisino was

To be fair, Meredith wasn't exactly puppies and rainbows before the artifact, either.

LOL. Yeah really, when the Chantry exploded I should have felt flattered. He put up such a show to let me know it was over between the two.

Hey, it's not over between him and my Hawke!  XD  Hawke is a very stubborn woman; it takes more than massive acts of terrorism to get her to give up on a relationship.  LOL.

Oh god. I stayed with him too and I can imagine my Hawke shaking her head telling him, "If you wanted to end it you could've just buy me dinner?..."

I'm on my second playthrough and Hawke has had sex with Isabela and Fenris. She told Isabela it was for fun (and didn't flirt with her in the follow-up) and, of course, Fenris left. When Anders came over for loving, he stopped to ask about Fenris and my Hawke responded with "She meant nothing to me!" which made me laugh waaaaaay too hard. And she thought Aveline was bad at relationships!

Speaking of Aveline, I love Anders' comments during her quest. He's actually nice to her and Donnic, in a vaguely bemused way.

Tough love.  VERY tough love.  I imagine my mage!Hawke, having been thoroughly mind-raped by everything in the course of the game, being like "Okay, you.  I've made plenty of mistakes.  You made one really big one.  And now, we're going to keep fighting for freedom, protecting the mages, and existing in this world that we have created, and justice will be served to everyone when all is said and done, got it?"  And I'm sure he'll know to trust her better in the future, considering she just spared his life when she could have very well ended him right there.

The world he describes to Hawke at the end is something my mage!Hawke would die to fight for, no matter how crazy his ideas on achieving it might have been.  The prejudice against magic has screwed her family over, and she was an idiot for ever buying that mansion in Kirkwall and thinking she could somehow live a normal life.  Her purpose was a little clearer in the end.  Taking Flemeth's advice, she fell, because that's the only way she'd ever know if she could fly.  And she became a dragon!

I wonder if some of the versions of the story that get told after that do involve her turning into a dragon after she had defeated Meredith, with the mage revolutionary held securely in her talons as she flew away...

But this was all in my head, don't mind me.

I got a similar reaction from my husband.

Me: "Look hun, I'm gonna kiss Anders!"

Him: "Okay dear." Usual laughing remark to my pixel romances in DA.

Me: ":O:O:O:O:blink:" Silence, with jaw drop.

Him: "Uh, wow. That's much better than the Isabella one..." (He's romancing pirate queen)

He has now been chasing me around, kissing me like that

I do the same thing, except I had to start my replay close to the beginning of the game (totally missed Fenris' recruit mission the first time around). My FemHawke met and began the romance with Anders twice. xD I've also replayed a few side quests three times just to make sure Hawke was in-character. And this is why I'm still in Act 1...

I do sort of a "rough draft" playthrough, then go back and do another full playthrough.

Also, DA2 is the only game since Baldur's Gate where I've picked it right back up immediately upon finishing it to play through it again.  I love this game.  And I think Anders may have made me see why you love your well-intentioned extremists so :P

Saren... Loghain... now Anders.

And I've gotten another plot bunny.  Dammit.

So now that I think about it, if we kill Anders, Justice runs free with the body at least for a time. How long was the time frame of Awakening? Justice will have plenty of time to blow up other Chantries or kill anybody that doesn't do or think like he does...

And if we keep Anders alive, he already gave in completely to Justice's whim.....so there is no chance to turn him around. I really wished I had the option of killing Justice in the Fade. Grr....

I wonder why this game never gave you the "Connor" option for Anders. Maybe it's too late...

My Lady Hawke loves him and throughout all of his crazy she's willing to give him one more chance to try and help him reach a just resolution with both mages and templars. But she doesn't agree with what he did and if he attempts to try and kill more innocents, I think she's gonna have to kill him.

Tough love indeed.

That's something that has been bothering me...if you kill Anders, would he actually "die"???  I mean, he falls down, but Justice isn't bound by the normal rules of "stab=dead".  I would feel even worse if Anders' body is used by Justice, and we have to see that in DLC or the next game.  :crying:

Also, has anyone imported a game where Anders died in Awakening's epilogue, or seen any footage of that?  I want to know if he ever acknowledges it.  Maybe during Finding Nathaniel?

No yeah I think everybody killing Anders is just making everything worse. Justice is capable of staying in the world with a dead body. Hence if you kill Anders, Justice is not dead. Has free run of killing whoever he wants. Anders was trying really hard to control him, and although he lost it at the end and claims Justice didn't make him blow up the chantry, Justice is obviously in control at this point. Scary. You'll have to burn the body or something so he can't use it.

I'll take my chance with a possessed alive Anders. I wonder if Lady Hawke can still attempt to talk some sense into him? I doubt it. I really want a DLC so I can kill Justice. Then at least if we kill Anders we know his body is not running around commiting acts of "justice".

It might be very dysfunctional, but Hawke might even feel some responsibility him/herself. Perhaps keeping Anders alive would be doing a justice not only for him, but for those who have and will die. I think Hawke had a very big part to play in his downward spiral. So much inaction for 7 years, being torn from one side to the other... Buying a giant mansion in Kirkwall for what? Just to make his/her mother happy?  To reclaim family honor that was already tarnished because of magic prejudice?  That didn't turn out well at all in the end... And the mages were suffering more and more while he/she was comfortable and living the good life (well, relatively). There's a lot of guilt there in my mind.

There isn't a part of this game that isn't dysfunctional, lawl.

I think that at the point where you can kill Anders, he and Justice are so resolutely combined that if Anders's dies and the spirit leaves his body, Justice is pulled out as well. It's not two souls sharing a set of limbs, they've merged.

Did anyone else sit back and think about how it was possible to save Connor in DA:O? Because when Anders started really getting depressed, I had a few moments that made me wish I could write my cousin in Denerim and ask for advice.

I agree. When you fight other possessed creatures, they die once you've killed them. You don't have to show up again a few weeks later to find out zombie!them is killing people. Sure, he possessed Kristoff but that was after he was forced into the mortal world and bound to Kristoff's corpse. Spirits have been known to possess corpses and living people but I don't think we've seen any examples of killing someone possessed and then having to deal with their reanimated corpse. They just die.

And I'm kind of surprised to find buying the mansion is sort-of controversial. You were living in the slums and all of a sudden you have a ton of money. Why NOT buy a mansion? Why is this a problem?
