Am I the only one to tend to forget to name of her Hawke?

Though I take some time to name them (Marion, Evangeline and Baptiste) I tend to refer to them as Hawke more than as their first name.

Edit: forgot my new male Hawke!

I completely forgot on my first playthrough, like a dork, but I have remembered since then. Of course, I name them extremely boring things like Alexander and Sarah and Matthew.

I agree. I usually feel closest with that first char. Like, with my second Hawke I'm constantly trying to do something, reading the wiki for hints and stuff. It's annoying, but I want to see all the content. The first one is you.

Usually my characters have consistent traits that reflect my personality.  But with DAII, I created a protagonist who's very, very different from me...and the creepy thing was that the opposite effect happened.  Her views ended up influencing mine.

i dont really pick what first name sounds good with the last name though, because it really doesn't matter for most females - there's a good chance it will be changing anyway ;)

The only reason Hawke would ever change her name would be if she was hiding from the authorities :P

I meant a first name to match the last name. :) Like I could marry a french/spanish/chinese man and my first name wouldn't match up with the last   So for females making a first name to match the last name and the context of the situation is slightly less important imo.

Oki... I have to make a Hawke to romance Anders sometime soon. I've been reading about that kiss on the forum for quite some time now =)

@Yukidama Manasses? eeech... Lenox is much better

I always choose mostly classic French names.... I could overthink it and think all my Wardens were Orlesian conspirators but oh well. They usually dont sound too bad with whatever the last name is.

Yeah, especially for a gay male Hawke? Being named Man asses isn't exactly.... it's a bit... wrong.

My canon Warden was named Odette, my canon Shepard is Adele. I like French names.

+25 <3 for those other names though

He's not kinky enough for that. He needed Zevran to guide him, but he was sadly not present for most of the game, and by the time he was Anders made a pissy face at him and he backed off :crying:

Lol, Kawamura, why would you name your dog Lenox? I don't even particularly like the name, but it's stuck now so D:

I was dead set on the name Sebastian for months, then that stupid so-and-so up and stole it.... mother****er.

Man, the Anders kiss ... I romanced him on my first playthrough, and was so not expecting it, so my reaction was basically:

:o

So I was all HOOKED on the CRAZY MAN who is a GOOD KISSER and then the end happened and I went:

:o  :pinched: :crying:

It seems to me that Hawke has the most ... established? ... family when compared to the LIs.  Not that it is in tact by the end of the game.  Nonetheless, it isn't entirely against tradition to join the woman's family if it is of higher rank.

It might be kind of awesome if Hawke asked Anders.  "It would be my deepest honor if you would be join my family."

Of course, he's the mission by then.  And as I joked several pages ago, it's not like they can go to the Chantry to have their union blessed. *ahem*

Oooh, ABC-naming bandwagon! :D
My first Hawke was Ariadne. Certain mind-bending movies on netflix may have played a tiny role. The alliteration with Anders was noticeable, but not too weird - but that may be only because my actual boyfriend and I have alliterative names.

A thought, not related to anything currently being discussed:
As lovely as some of gay!Anders' lines are, I'm glad he doesn't reference a past relationship with Karl during the f!Hawke romance. Two reasons: Carth. Kaidan. In retrospect, the refreshing thing about Alistair in DAO was FINALLY not having to coach someone through the loss of some other lover!

By the end of Mass Effect I seriously wanted a "shut up" mod that gave me lines like, "Please reconsider your decision to rave about your perfect teenage girlfriend to your next potential partner. Srsly. This is the least attractive thing you could do right now. If it keeps up much longer, even your woobie voice won't be able to save you." So, yeah, no thanks, Karl. I like my Anders with other kinds of damage. :P

My Hawke is a feminist to the max, she ain't changing no name of hers. Raar!

It's also why she will never say "lol ur Hawke now mom" in that conversation about the estate being in the family again.

Ooh! This would be awesome. Although, Anders is telling Hawke his real name before she marries him. If he wants to hide behind a nickname his whole life, fine, but I think she still should know what his name is.

And... *snerk* to the Chantry thing.

I know. Here I was, planned out my pro-Templar Hawke to be in a friendship romance with Fenris. Then I go to have a talk with Anders. And he goes 'I want to kill you but I love you but I hate you' and kisses her passionately. Whilst panting.

Fenris was abandoned.

Three guesses who you're talking about there :P  Go easy on the drell in ME2, then.

I'm ok with Anders' talk about Karl mostly because it takes up all of one conversation, then he never brings it up again.  And it's less about him and Karl, and more about the cruelty of the Rite of Tranquility to strip away someone's essential self.

...seriously, the more I play this game, the more I hate the templars.  Anders is rubbing off on me.

Heee! Good point.

However, my Atticus is about as far away from a mabari as a dog can get. And now I'm imagining those Dog Lords in Lowtown showing up with a bunch of fearsome basset hounds who are all tripping over their ears for a chance to get pet by Hawke and company. It's waaaay more amusing than it should be.

That would just be patriotically embarassing. Hawke would kill them out of principle.

Anders would stop Hawke, just so he could take a few home to study their genetically superior puppy dog eyes. He does have an act of terrorism to beg forgiveness for, after all. He'll need all the help he can get.

RE: Awakening Anders. I always thought that he could go either way (and not like that). With support from the Wardens and a WC who would stick their neck out for him, he'd probably settle in nicely (as his Happy! epilogue suggests). However, because he already had all that unmanaged anger from years of being in the Circle, having the Wardens start treating him like an animal to be leashed just set him down an unadviseable path to Justice-dom and brought out the Anders that he'd kept buried beneath his rather superficial charms.

Why not?  It's Hawke's name.  She bought it back.

And in order to change our Hawke's name... wouldn't Anders actually have to SAY what his was?

well mages cant get married anyway, but i think it's more of a mental thing than anything. leandra's marriage wasn't really a marriage persay, more so than two kiddos running off and living a life together. :) she still took her "husbands" last name.

of course it's not as if hawke even knows anders last name....or first.

:P For first, Hawke would never take her husband's name, it would be a bit silly, since she's known by the name Hawke. Second, no one else even has a lastname (except Sebastian and that's out of the question). Third, what was said above, It was a noble thing to have a family name. Peasants had the name of their houses. Now, even though Hawke used her father's name, she was the noble kid here and the title and name Amell is hers. Anyone marrying her would marry into the Amell family. Historically not all women took their husbands' names, at least here they didn't.

Also the feminism :innocent:

I actually like the name Friedrich... but then it makes me think of this guy: dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Friedrich

Honestly though, my Hawke would change her last name if it meant changing it to von Sparklefingers. The manhunt for the von Sparklefingers would be epic.

Edit: Or perhaps that would be the von Sparklefingerses.

Do we actually know that Leandra took the name Hawke? Aside from the optional line we get ("you're a Hawke now") does anyone refer to her as such?

I tend to like fantasy names. I have a pool of names I've been lugging around since my tabletop RPG days that I usually dip into, and then sometimes I just want something new. My first Hawke was Brynne (yes, I like odd spellings, sometimes), my second Hawke is Aeran (note weird spelling) which is really funny, because I tend to dislike "normal" sounding names for my characters, but for this character it just fit. I guess that also puts me in the ABC game, which is something I never thought about.
