I was listening to some oldies when an old favourite of mine started playing.

And, it just screamed Anders to me:  Rush - Free Will.

(go listen to it and see what you think).

There are those who think that life has nothing left to chance take,
A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance.

A planet of playthings,
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
"The stars aren't aligned,
Or the gods are malign..."
Blame is better to give than receive.

Chorus
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill;
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill.

There are those who think that they were dealt a losing hand,
The cards were stacked against them; they weren't born in Lotusland.

All preordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate.
Kicked in the face,
You can't pray for a place
In heaven's unearthly estate.

Chorus
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill;
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill.

Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete.
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt that's far too fleet.

Chorus
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill;
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill.

...seriously, the more I play this game, the more I hate the templars.  Anders is rubbing off on me.

Haha, funny how different people are different, I'm going in the complete opposite direction. I doubt I will ever side with the templars at the END (except for the achievement ... stupid achievement ...stupid me for liking to complete them), because that's just silly, murdering people who had exactly nothing to do with the Chantry exploding (say what you will about Sebastian, but he is totally right in his "seriously, wtf? Guilty man is RIGHT HERE." lines), but with the blood mages stabbing me in the back or murdering my family or kidnapping my other family even though I have clearly helped apostates before and what the hell, Thrask? Man, I thought we were buds!, I am just all out of love for mages.

They can't have nice things.

It's also why she will never say "lol ur Hawke now mom" in that conversation about the estate being in the family again.

I consider my Hawke to be a feminist as well. For the most part, I find DA empowering, but that quote also bothered me - I would never say that to my own mother, and my Hawke certainly wouldn't say it to hers!

We totally know Anders's real name.  It's Friedrich von Sparklefingers.

I kind of want Anders' real name to be Hansel.

Hansel. He's so hot right now. Hansel.

I was always thinking it was something dorky like Athony. That name cracks me up for some reason.

Hahaha my very first DA character EVA was called Nariadne - because I loved the name Ariadne at the time too but I added my first letter to it (creative skillz i know)

I have to say it was super refreshing to have two perfectly messed up broody lovers WITHOUT any daddy issues. Yay!

As for the whole marriage thing: They don't need to get married married - they dont need that to know they are bound to each other for life. It would be awesome for Anders to have a family again. Too bad basically 3/4 of the Hawke family had already died or left by the time he moved in

No, but then, no one except Varric says Carver's last name, either. He doesn't even say his full name when he learns about his namesake.

I think Nodice is correct. The eldest inherits the last name/title no matter the gender. Technically, Leandra never stopped being Amell, which means Hawke is Amell. And who's to say Hawke wasn't just the latest alias their father had to hide them under?

Well, I loved Friedrich before, but it's got to be Hansel now. He's got the long blond hair and everything!

And my Hawke would never take his name (or anyone's). I imagine if they do get married, they'll just make something up (being fugitives and everything). It's not like Thedas has an electronic database of names and requires government issue ID for anything.

So, yeah. They're totally going to be Hansel and Wilhelmina McAwesomeville

Go easy on the drell in ME2, then.

I left the drell alone. Odd how the Anders trainwreck sucked me in and that one scared me off. I think it had something to do with the weirdly narrated flashbacks. ;)
I'm in the Garrus camp (probably predictably).

I get what you are saying about the Rite of Tranquility... frankly, I think that part kept its poignancy even without the past romance: Anders was clearly distraught over losing friend-Karl.:crying: It was still touching, I think.

I just really liked not going down that particular path again with the straight human male romance - I needed a break!

Well, Kirkwall IS the Hellmouth, so everyone, mages included, is absolutely bats*** <_<

I guess the difference is that I attribute the mages' bats*** to desperation and the templars' to self-righteous cruelty and prejudice; I'm more forgiving of the former than I am of the latter.  Even Cullen, the most reasonable among the templars, says you can't treat mages like people.  That's a slippery slope argument if I ever heard one.  Add in people like Kerras, Meredith, and Alrik and...yeah.  No sympathy.

Lol, Kawamura, why would you name your dog Lenox? I don't even particularly like the name, but it's stuck now so D:

Daddy Hawke's name is from Macbeth, so I picked another name from Macbeth. It was that, or Donalbain or MACDUFF.

I wanted to name him MACRUFF but I chickened out.

Why not?  It's Hawke's name.  She bought it back.

And in order to change our Hawke's name... wouldn't Anders actually have to SAY what his was?

She wouldn't say it to her mom, because her mom clearly still thinks of herself as an Amell. And Hawke ain't down with telling other ladies what to do with their names or how to think of themselves!

I figure "Hawke loves her last name and isn't changing it, dammit" makes sense anyway. She moves into the Amell estate, she has the Amell family crest on everything that has space to have it painted on, is all I'M PART OF THE AMELL FAMILY BY THE WAY, WOO but she still goes by "Hawke." Probably because that sounds better on her Adventurer Resume.

Bahahahahaha, do pirates do gay marriage?

Though, to be honest, marriage is probably the lowest thing on my Hawke's priority list, all things considered. I figure "You blew up a building and forced a war to begin and I am still by your side" says INFINITELY more about their commitment than a wedding ever could, lmao.

This.

On the flip side, I can imagine a lesser man than Anders thinking, "Damn woman/man, what would it take to break up with you??" :innocent:

Anders would stop Hawke, just so he could take a few home to study their genetically superior puppy dog eyes. He does have an act of terrorism to beg forgiveness for, after all. He'll need all the help he can get.
.

For some reason, I think blowing up the chantry/old ladies gets you sleeping on the couch for some time, no matter how cute your puppy dog eyes are.

Maybe not a couch. More like a different patch of dirt. Hawke would claim the nice patch and Anders would have to go sleep in the mud. They'd calll truces for conjugal visits, though. Puppy dog eyes may work to increase the frequency of those.

It's ISABELA we're talking about here.  She'd probably ask if she could watch on their wedding night :D

But yeah, I think running away with Anders is pretty much tantamount to tying the knot commitment-wise.  There is no way my Hawke will abandon the man who taught her that the templars can be defied.

Of course pirates do gay marriage. What the hell kinda question is that?

And "running away so the Templars don't make you into meat puppets" doesn't have the same finality-ring of "getting married". My Hawke's thoughts would be "I'm just doing this so Carver doesn't get to stand over me in a gaol cell saying I TOLD YOU SO I TOLD YOU SO I TOLD YOU SO and we are totally not married."

Well, Gamlen mentions "that Hawke fellow" Leandra ran off with, so that's probably Malcolm' real surname, since I don't know how Gamlen would know otherwise.

Ha, I had this thought too! Though given how Isabela feels about marriage, I think they'd have to get her good and drunk before she'd agree to do it. It would be hilarious because instead of Anders and Hawke having pre-wedding jitters, it would totally be Isabela getting wiggy and needing to be talked down.

And then it would be all PIRATE WEDDING with lots of rum and all the sailors dancing on deck, and then probably a big swordfight when the templars try to crash the party, and Hawke can swing down from the rigging to swoop up Anders. What? Sometimes swooping is good.

I honestly hadn't thought much about my Hawke and Anders getting married. I figured they wouls stay together but didn't think of it beyond that. HOWEVER, I fully endorse crazy, drunken pirate wedding. I would be all over that.

That's it.  We need pirate marriage DLC.  NAO.

I'll think of that while I'm writing my super-depressing fic of Sebastian hunting down my Hawke and Anders.  I need something to cheer me up.

Haaah.

Hawke drunk off their ass going, "I'm my moooootheeeeer. Maker save me, I'm my moooootheeeer." Then possibly barfing on Anders at the end.

That would be the best thing.
