‘"I used to have a lot of fights with Martin about his theory about disobeying the law. I didn’t believe in that. I  thought you did have a right to disobey a law, and you also had a right to go to jail for it. He kept talking about Thoreau, and I told him … ‘If I understand it, Thoreau wrote his book in jail. If you want to write a book, you go to jail and write it’’’

Heh. But, black guy reporting in (well. Half. So half opinion,  I guess), but I can honestly say the mages did not remind me of black folks. You want to talk about black folks, look to elves. Even Fenris' devotion reminds me of that.

Since I can't find the correct thread - are there any updates on the whole "getting Anders to side with the templars if you get full rivalry and convince him he was wrong" deal?

There doesn't seem to be a way to get it through normal play. It was either bugged or removed.

We can't even compare the elf situation to that, either, because Andraste DID start a war that lead to their freedom ... or their treatment as second-class citizens at best.

Thedas is an ugly world, just sayin'.

Lame. I wanted to do that on my current playthrough.

From a gameplay point of view it really sucks. Basically you have to go against the 2 final bosses without healing, unless you happen to have Bethany.

It's really a testament to the writers that this one character stirs up SO MUCH DEBATE. There's really just no way of knowing how he should have acted. But he was correct -- if Elthina remained alive, the Circle likely would have stayed, and the stalemate between the mages and the templars would have continued on indefinitely, as well as the abuses on both sides.

(Also, I find it interesting that the mages are pretty much the one reason the qunari have been pushed back so successfully by the Chantry. I have a feeling that if not for the fact the Chantry can basically use them as a weapon, the mages would be hunted and tranquil'd to begin with. But then again, I sided with the mages; the templars also have their arguments.

Also, what's this people have said about Andraste being a mage? Haven't heard of that, but it's intriguing! If so, I wonder if the Maker may have been some kind of spirit himself.)

Anyway, I <3 him. And all of his contradictions. I loved him in Awakenings, and I wish there'd been an easier transition between Awakenings Anders and DA2 Anders -- but his story arc totally surprised me with how heartwrenching and difficult it is. I really didn't expect that.

You know you have DA on the brain when you have a fit model right in front of you to draw and end up with an Anders doodle.

I think it's safe to say that the inspiration for Anders' story, and the plight of the mages, and the plight of the elves for that matter was drawn from real life examples, but parallels always fall down somewhere and we can't simply box this whole situation into "It was right because of this" or "it was wrong because of that."

Yup, and that's why DA2 is so brilliant, it far exceeded my expectations and I had extremely high expectations!

To change the subject I want a DLC of the Hawke/Anders honeymoon period - you know the year after their first night together? When Anders turns his back on his cause for a time and is all hopefull that Ethina and Meredith are not that hprrible after all

Since the turn this thread has taken is partly my fault (IHU SEBASTIAN), I shall make amends:

You resume it simply and perfectly for me.  Its why they strike a chord.. its because those stories have been seen before and will be seen again too.

I am wondering though what the prophecy of Sandal will affect in the world that Anders has nudged into a no compromise way.  Sandal prophecy here www.youtube.com/watch

For that and Flemeth advice of jumping to embrace the change... makes me glad to have chosen the mages plight

So comparing Anders to Zoolander's Hansel made me think of this possible Anders/Warden reunion

Anders: So I'm climbing to the top of the Chantry to plant a bomb when suddenly I slip, and I start to fall. Just falling, ahh ahh, I'll never forget the terror. When suddenly I realize "Holy ****, Anders, haven't you been drinking lyrium for six straight days, and couldn't some of this maybe be in your head?"
Warden: And?
Anders: And it was. I was totally fine.  I've never even been to Kirkwall.

This seriously needs to be on the OP, I am typing from the floor as we speak, and I can't get up.

I think someone needs to write an entire Dragon Age 2/Zoolander parody.  That would greatly improve my life.  Hawke can suggest Fenris and Anders work out their differences in a broody walk-off.  And later they can have a freak-fest.

I'm guessing he put the bomb in the Chantry basement because the reaction starts at the center of the building. Either there was a basement or the sisters were not that curious about an oddly shaped box in the center of the Chantry.

Something like this and holy balls is this NWS so be warned:

Yes, there is a lot to it. It's just a shame some people seem to be simplifying it as "crazy guy randomly bombs church due to being crazy".

I really need to get a camera. My two cats (Constantine, the cinnamon tabby, and Victor, the tortoiseshell) are curled up together on the other office chair, cuddling in their sleep, and it is ridiculously adorable.

Because peaceful marches, sit-ins, and hunger-strikes wouldn't work in a medieval society where might makes right.

Except in Thedas there's at least has been one documented success of peaceful sit-in, ironically concerning the founding of the Circle itself. A bunch of mages sat in the rafters of some building and refused to come down until the Chantry threw up their hands and let them stay isolated from the rest of the society. Someone with more codex-fu can expand on this more XD

Lol. You're right. I remember reading that one.

I remember that.  I also don't think it applies on a hellmouth.

As I said, Meredith would have looked up, gone "I am not amused." and rained a hail of arrows into the rafters.
