Yep.

When I persist in romancing Anders time and again, despite the game, the writers, Anders himself, and my own previous goddamn playthroughs telling me that he'll shatter my heart to little pieces...yeah.  I have issues.  Maybe having a healthy, emotionally stable relationship IRL allows me to pursue crazy guys in video games or something.

Because in the real world no one judges you poorly if you're videogame boyfriend is a fruitloop.

That part is when he's given Varric his pillow, I think. It confused me so much, because on my first - completely unspoiled - run I was all "...are you breaking up with me? Oh my god, you are, aren't you?" But, no, he still hangs around the mansion, but then refuses to say anything but focusing on the task at hand. Conflicting signals, what. I figured that, yes, he had broken up with Hawke, he just didn't move out. So I was all different kinds of surprised when he talks about love and running away together in the Circle before the end. Just... what? What? What?
Still, telling Hawke that and then hanging around being all Broody McBlackfeathers leaves my girl feeling a bit
...:huh::? ... *edges away*

I realized the other day... as much as Anders really needs a lot of hugs and love cause he's such a tortured man... I never feel like he needs protecting.  I always see him as older than Hawke, wiser than Hawke, and a much more badass mage than Hawke.  He needs no saving!

Gamlen says that Grandpa Amell died when Hawke was in pinafores.  And Leandra says the twins were a week old at the time of the funeral.  It makes me think Hawke is at most three years older than Bethany and Carver.  Bethany was 18 at the time of the Blight (Leandra mentions her age if she dies).  So I imagined my Hawke to be about 21 at the time of the Blight, and 31 by the end of DA2.  Anders is probably a few years older than she is.

See, the thing is that even though I see him older than Hawke, I see my Hawke as a much more stable person and a far more powerful mage.  So there's some mutual protecting there.

My real life boyfriend laughs at me and shakes his head.  I tell him it's his own damn fault for getting me stuck on adorable scruffy blonde dudes :P

Hehe.  I see them as two badass mages complimenting eachother's talent and kicking SERIOUS ass on the road.
I know Anders has saved my Hawkette's life a few times, and she's done the same, but she never worries much about him on the battlefield.  She also worries more for the templars that'd be stupid enough to try to come arrest Anders than she is worried for Anders himself.  Nonetheless, she tries to keep his place safe, for everyone's sake.  There's children and such coming to his clinic afterall, they don't need to be exposed to carta and templars.  Ick.
Edit: typed in the wrong area, LOL

You only get the manic dialogue post-"Justice" if you're not yet eligible for the end-stage approval dialogue. So, you need to not be at 100% friend or rival and talk to him after "Justice," to get to see him go crazy-manic.

I know this is like 100 pages back, but does anyone have a youtube link to post-justice mania?

There, here it is:

Thanks! I always have Anders at 100% friendship or rivalry by about 1/2 through act 2, so I never seen that scene.

One of the devs commented on that issue before, on how the most fun video game romances are NEVER people you would recommend pursuing in real life.  And it's true!  A lot of the best fictional romances are only compelling due to the sheer craziness of the people in them.  XD

It makes me appreciate my comparatively sane husband.

I'm having a hard time with the friendmance vs rivalmance thing. On one hand, it felt really good to be there for Anders, to be able to go "yeah, those Templars massively SUCK!"

On the other, during act 2, I started to see how unstable he was getting, and how much mages need *something* to keep them in check. I started to feel like I was enabling him by encouraging him all the time.

It's lose-lose.

In short, no idea if I want to finish this playthrough as friend or rival. ;) I know what's going to happen, and I just hate that. Hate!

Yeah I would not touch my fake boyfriends with a ten foot pole except probably Kaidan (who it feels like almost everyone hates because SNOOZEVILLE MAN, and ALSO YOU SOUND EXACTLY LIKE CARTH) and definitely Alistair, because oh my god you guys just listen to him. I'd be a lot more receptive to Jacob in real life than I am in ME2, too, I think. Probably because I would not sound like a cougar on the prowl like LadyShep does every time she talks to him, which creeps me out almost as much as the LeerCam that kicks in when you talk to Miranda.

@KealaFerret Mayhaps romancing Anders is not for you? :D
Or do both? Two different saves?
Give up on romance altogether?

Or maybe you just need some time at the Rose or with Isabela to escape the DRAMUH that Anders is. (Not that Fenris is lacking in dramuh, please understand).

Agreed.  My two favorite video game romances are KOTOR 2's Atton Rand (who is a former murderer) and Anders, who is an abomination terrorist.  I deal with Anders for a few hours, and I really appreciate my very stable, sweet, non-terrorist boyfriend ^_^

I wouldn't go around calling my boyfriend perfectly sane and safe because he'd snark at that, lol.
I have dated the crazyyyyyyyyyyyyyy a few times, passion = awesome, but eventually I wanted to stop feeling like the earth was always shaking under my feet, lol.
Anders is just enough enthusiasm, idealism and crazy to keep me interested. Real life got nothing on him. But then again I only need to spend 40 hours with Anders... not a real lifetime. Easier to digest.

My husband was totally all, "So does this mean if I blow up a church, you won't stab me?" when he asked me how I dealt with the Anders Problem, knowing I had romanced him. I said I wouldn't, but for entirely different reasons, one of those being I doubt I could personally stab anyone for any reason.

Not that my husband should cast stones, he spared Anders and wasn't even sleeping with him.

::fans self:: Oh, Atton Rand!  It may have only been half a romance if that, but I LOOOOOOVE Atton.

Atton and Anders are definitely my two favorite video game romances as well.

Ahmmm, my boyfriend exclaimed that he'd have been right along with Anders blowing up the chantry.
I think he needs to cut it out with reading all those atheist blogs and reading about religious abuse... the man is getting more and more adamant.

Hah yeah except I've played a bit of it both ways and actually like the direction they both have gone! For me, it's hard to choose because I want to follow *both* through to their conclusion. I guess I have to just have another playthrough! ;)

Edited to add: and two biscuits dipped in caramel and chocolate is KILLING me here. DARNIT. I guess on the upside, I'd kind of been eating too many Twix the last couple of weeks anyway, and now I can't eat them because I'm too busy laughing and will choke, most likely!

Haha, my husband is an atheist too (I am not, omg rivalry points!) but he was still pretty "Dude! We do not blow up Chantries for our cause!" at the end. And then hemmed and hawed and was finally like, "Aw man, I can't stab you, just get the hell out of here." And then was all "Dammit, now I don't have a HEALER" as Bethany ate it in the Deep Roads. Imagine his surprise when he sided with the mages and Anders showed back up!

I was all "He wants to heeeeeeeelp because you're his paaaaaaaaal! And also probably has a crush on you. Just a head's up."

I'm not sure if he's going more or less pro-mage as he makes his way through subsequent playthroughs, I should ask!

I got this at 100% rivalry so have a few others so not sure if it's bugged, and I was definitely on 100% near the beginning of act 2. But if you've been at 100% and not seen it, it sounds like it is bugged.

P much.

That relationship was the most boring thing ever. He's gotten to his thirties, he's mellowed out, and he's right ready to become a boring DILF.

And I'm more than ready to let him.
