Uh-oh. I may have just fallen in love with you a little. Arcade is the best.

Yeah. Trust me, it would be great if I got the good parts. I only got the bad parts: the insufferable know-it-all thing, the switching languages to prove a point thing, the self pity thing and the snarky-but-not-funny thing.

Oh, well. Make do with my talents: declension, maths and dick jokes.

One of the devs commented on that issue before, on how the most fun video game romances are NEVER people you would recommend pursuing in real life.  And it's true!  A lot of the best fictional romances are only compelling due to the sheer craziness of the people in them.  XD

I remember that quote. xD It is true. I never play myself in videogames - I always create a character that I would find interesting if they were in some game/movie/book, which means that at least a little crazy is required. And crazy loves its company. They wouldn't go for someone who's "normal." It's out of character.

Since the idea of anyone finding me more than an insufferable bore is weird, I'm going to just leave this.

Re: class preferences: I don't really have one. I just pick my character first and let the chips fall where they may around them. It usually ends up that the class I like playing the most ends up being the class of my favorite party member, so there's always some overlap (aside from like, Alistair). For Anders? I don't really have a preference. I like playing mages so I played a mage, but I like non-magic classes just as fine. It has more to do with the personality of the character I am playing than their weapon of choice. Like, I wouldn't pair all my hypothetical mages with Anders just because they're mages (nor all my hypothetical warriors or hypothetical rogues, etc). Character dynamic is more important to me, so I'm just like "Ehhhh, whatever." when people start with the whole "X BELONGS WITH Y BECAUSE IT IS BETTER", like the whole "only renegades should be with Garrus" or "only Couslands belong with Alistair" BS from the before times xD

I hated playing a warrior in Origins. You were so FREAKING SLOW.
Rogue was my preferred class in Origins, Warrior in DA2...though it's a tough choice.

Only women belong with Leliana. Only Paragons should be with Kaidan. Only douchebags belong with Anders.

There's also a whole "only mages belong with Fenris, rivalmance is sew hawttttt" thing that I've seen around the boards, which is super amusing to me.

I started a rogue.. did not like her and scrapped her before creating a mage who surprisingly fell for Anders. I had not planned going for him on my specific mage run or anything. It was nice to be in a character that could be "understanding the mage plight" but I feel that with your family and the situation of Kirkwall there is always way that someone could roleplay that.

Also I dont think the dialogue is that different between classes so it really goes with how you roll.

LOL See, I could hear Arcade saying all of that!

As for mage v. non-mage...

I'm one of the few fic writers who writes Anders with a non-mage Warden and I've become addicted to the dynamic from that. I was actually afraid that in DA2, with its emphasis on MAGEMAGEMAGE, I would be difficult to romance him as a warrior or rogue. Fortunately (or unfortunately, if you're one of the THREE mages I have languishing in Lothering), it was not an issue at all. I still love the dynamic of a warrior and a mage, especially since my particular warrior is always in the thick of things and depends on Anders to keep her from getting in over her head. Deathwise.

And I've said it before, but Bethany really helps me roleplay a Hawke who is fiercely protective of the ones she loves and who honestly believes that mages that are shown kindness are less likely to turn to abominations. It's why, even though she's not irrational, she thinks the Circle doesn't work as is because mages are imprisoned rather than...gathered? She wouldn't be so opposed to the system if it was more like a university or commune, where mages could have their families with them and live relatively normal lives.

Ultimately, though, I think that playing a mage that romances Anders in this game would feel too on the nose. Also, I really take Anders' insistence that Hawke could have a normal life without him to heart. A non-mage, I think, would have more options, so taking that leap with him in the end seems like a sacrifice of the power Hawke held as Champion and the things she could have had if she'd just let him fall on his own.

Atton...most simultaneously adorable and creepy romance ever.

Atton was just a big jealous jerk, and I loved him for it.  ^__^

<3 I pretty much fangirled so hard for Atton that I wrote fanfics about him and I hadn't written fanfics since I was twelve.  It was a pretty insane crush.  I think I like my love interests with a dash of tortured past and a generous helping of awesome jealousy.  Seriously, Atton's conversations with everyone about the Exile were great.

Was anyone else confused when Anders tells you that Vengeance only comes out when "he's lost all control over himself" and he canot bring him out at will, but in the very next conversation you have with him he can start glowing and still has his own voice. Seems very much in control of himself, just.... angry.

He makes my brain hurt.

Are you sure you didn't encounter the very frequent Isabela Thumbs Up bug?
Because seriously, before you start moving in bullet time matrix style (and believe me it is fun for 2 minutes...), you think you are simply slow...

I agree that rivalmance is generally hotter but .. we can be warrior and still be pro-mage 8D hahahaha so there is no preference on class, I think. There can be preference on Hawke's belief (Templar or Mage) though.

I'm pretty sure that every single thing Anders tells you about his and Justice's relationship stands in stark contradiction to every other thing he tells you about his and Justice's relationship. I never know if he's lying or if he just doesn't know himself.

Hey, with dual wielding + momentum + that warden's keep ability, you could get the highest attack speed in the game without running into the haste bug as a warrior!

But 2H, lol. yeah noty

Ok, Kawamura, you may have just made me fall in love with you too. Monty Python links, Terry Pratchett signatures, declension and maths? Not to mention dick jokes.... You've pretty much pushed all my buttons.

(Don't worry, I'm happily married with two kids and almost certainly living on the other side of the world from you. As far as stalkers go, I'm pretty safe).

D: No, because Arcade is neato.

I rather like Hawke and his brother. I imagine playing a mage knocking stylish boots with Anders does feel a bit spot on, but it's -- nice. It's nice to have Hawke as a foil (especially snarky Hawke). It's nice to play the one that managed to get away.

And it's nice to set **** on fire with your mind. And to have Meredith look at you and go "I'll overlook your use of magic. For now."

Random thought, and if this has already been discussed to death, feel free to tell me to go get a nice, big cup of STFU...

But I'm curious, out of all us Anders-mancers, how many prefer a mage Hawke vs non-mage Hawke?

Count me in as a non-mage Andermancer.

My canon Hawke is a rogue who's fiercely protective of Bethany after spending most of her life keeping her kid sister safe. Losing Bethany to the Wardens and their subsequent estrangement broke her heart, especially coming so soon after the death of her father and little brother, so she's protective of the loved ones she has left. Anders, of course, but also Merrill, as neither of them seem to be the best at looking after themselves. She might disapprove of Merrill, but she still sees the elf as an innocent who needs protecting, even if it's from herself.

She is definitely biased towards mages in general, having grown up with two wonderful apostates, so she's soft on them even when it would be safer or more politic to be neutral. For all their awesome power, she still thinks of them as being mostly good and gentle, if a bit mischievous, just like her sister. They are lost little lambs and she must guide them to safety.

You can imagine how the massive number of maleficarum in Kirkwall has affected that particular illusion.

I don't believe what he said after blowing up the chantry ... "he ceased to be". No, Anders is wrong. Justice is still there, eating up Anders from inside.

Which is so weird for me, because Disciple is the one video game character I just want to shove down a flight of stairs.  Never liked him.  The game was better for having his character in it, though, which is the important thing.  Atton snarking at him out of jealousy was the best thing ever.
