All this discussion really proves is that Anders was right. The status quo couldn't continue.

This thread moves so fast. I try to type up a quick reply and new pages pop up in the meantime, haha.

I have no doubt in my mind that mages do need a form of control or a check, but you give either the mages or templars an inch, and the bad eggs will take a mile. So there's really no black and white when it comes to this issue.

I personally hope one of the games/expansions/DLC will give us some choice in shaping the mage revolution. I would love some sort of magic school to teach mages how to deal with their powers and such. They could still go home at the end of the day and wouldn't be trapped outside of society for their entire lives. And I figure Templars could still be around, but as a sort of regulated police system instead of how they are now. Plus, I think mages should be able to help police other mages. From what I could tell in the game, mages seemed adept at stopping mind control used by blood mages and they could tell if someone was possessed, unlike the Templars. It would be nice to have something like the Dalish do, where the community all sort of pitch in to prevent disaster.

I know Anders admired Tevinter in some aspects but he also seemed opposed to having another Tevinter pop up. So I really want to do away with the Circles but not have absolute, completely unrestricted freedom.

I never really liked the Chantry to begin with, even in DA:O. Then there's the whole symbolism of the "White" Divine and the "Black" Divine, and the whole theme of the story seems to be THERE IS NO BLACK AND WHITE so...

Though... no compromise = Chantry go boom.... not a tactically sound action.

I think the problem with the Tevinter is that the people who were in power were the mages coming from rich family, full of entitlement, greed and desire for power. No wonder the mess that it's become.

*sigh* Off topic... I saw King Alistair this playthrough (generated save because I made him a GW), and I really really REALLY wanted him to just give me the taint and take me away. Staying out of power struggles and politics as part of GreyWardens sounds so much better than this hopeless mess.

Please, Alistair, take Anders and I with you, okay? This place is NUTSO! And Meredith has stupid plot armor.

I hated the Chantry in DA:O; so uppity and pious ><
DA2 Chantry people just solidifed my opinion (especially Petrice, arg).

When it came to Anders jenga-ing the Chantry, though, I was literally struck dumb. I'd avoided spoilers to the ending, so when I watched that cutscene, my mouth was hanging open.

Then I started laughing like mad person, thinking 'WHERE'S YOUR MAKER NOW?!'

And then I felt like a bad person.

Yeah, my Hawke was like "Oh okay, bb, I understand where you're coming from, but perhaps we might have had another solution to this ... you know what, **** it. Let's go."

@ekurian -- LOL. I admit I had kind of the same feeling. I felt horrible but thrilled at the same time.

*feels warm and fuzzy*

Admittedly, I wanted to smack Anders so hard for it, but that was more of a 'WHY DIDN'T YOU LET ME HELP' reaction than an 'You're an evil person' reaction.

Maker, I'm terrible.

*giggles* Oh, you're not the only one.  The more playthroughs I do, the more I get that way.  Last time I was like THAT'S WHAT YOU GET!  Since I tried to warn pretty much everyone.  This time I'm telling everyone they're being an ass and they need to do something (aggressive Hawke is starting to feel so natural in act 3, o.O)... and I will be like "HAHAHAHA, that's what you get for letting the Qunari mess go on until Petrice ****ed everything up and we ended with no viscount and you STILL would not listen.  I guess your maker doesn't care much for you since he doesn't give you enough common sense to save yourself."

This totally reminds me of all the times Seb is telling Fenris that the maker helped him, LOLz.  So where's the maker in all this?  Why he allowed Anders to do this, hmmm?  Since he helps his flock and all that.  I guess even the maker is disappoint with Elthina?

Yes, I'm evil.  This aggressive Hawkette business is rubbing off on me.
I think Hawkette will be might pissed by the end that she didn't get to blow it up.  She really is a very very bad mage.

I love being all 'the Maker doesn't care' at everyone xD

Such as when Elthina says something along the lines of  'We nearly had a Blight but the Maker stopped it', my Hawkette replied with 'That wasn't the Maker, that was the Hero of Ferelden. Who happened to be a mage. A blood mage too (in my imported playthrough she was, anyway xD)'.

I can't have been the only one to think 'Yeah, actually, this is better.' during the final battle? It just seemed more fair that the mages had an opportunity to defend themselves, rather than trapping them in the Gallows and slaughtering them all regardless.

Also, just to totally ruin the serious discussion, I have a question.
Has anyone one here heard Anders make the comment 'In my experience, all Dalish women are crazy.' when going to Sundermount? My import was a Dalish warden. I heard it and was kinda like 'Thanks Anders!'

The whole mages-templars dynamic can be amazingly interesting, even romantic, theoretically. If the templars could exist as a separate entity from the Chantry - something like grey wardens who keep an eye on both the mages and the Chantry and only interfere when there is actual need. Maybe that could be their whole purpose - to serve as peacekeepers who never interfere with any politics supporting one side or the other but sort of work to maintain a just relationship between the two.

Also I would not mind the whole Chantry thing at all if they were all peaceful and loving people. But there is just too much bull**** in their chants for my liking.

I think this is a fabulous idea. I would also add that I think they should take mages among their ranks. I think you need both mages and non-mages to ensure that neither side starts taking too much control again. Just mages regulating themselves--you might get another Tevinter. Just Templars, and you run the risk of another Circle.

She really said that?!  What a load of ****.  Even if not a Mage, horrible and tragic events lead up to the rise of the Hero of Ferelden, not to mention that he/she had to take part of an ungodly blood ritual in order to fight and kill the Archdemon.  The Maker had nothing to do with it aaaaugh ELTHINA I LIKE YOU LESS ALL THE TIME.

@Equila: He said that on my Cousie import, too, so don't worry.  He was talking about Velanna.

Sadly I didn't hear that convo, but didn't need to.  This time around after talking to Petrice I went to talk anyway with Elthina and told her Petrice was going to do some **** and was not going to be good.  She said she'd intervene at the right time.
Which *ahem* was after Qunari were killed, after the Viscount's son was killed... and she just handed her over, not even punished her herself or nothing.  Thanx for nothing, Elthina.  Thanx!  Between Elthina and Isabela, the poor viscount had no hope in hell.

She does indeed; I saw her standing in the Chantry during act 1 and thought 'OH HAI LETS BE FRENDZ'.

Then she went all 'the Maker saved us! PRAISE THE MAKER'. Needless to say, I didn't want to be friends anymore ><

If I had Seb, I'd drag him along every time I spoke to her, just so he could see my opinion p:

I wonder if there will be a war between the blood mages and the reg. mages.
