There's no reason why mages can't be "assigned" a templar. Or every town can have a Templar outpost that you call if your local mage goes wacko. I actually like the idea that if Hawke is a warrior he or she is a Templar too, because it makes sense for Malcolm and Leandra to recognise that there is a danger to having an untrained mage around.

I wish that were the case, but the DA verse makes it very clear that Lyrium is what makes a Templar, and it is a rare and controlled substance.

It also drives people mad. So few people actually want to become a templar.

Templars are surprisingly rare, especially compared to the amount of mages.

Except in DAO Alistair can teach you (and even learned) templar talents without ever using lyrium.

Their talents are kept very hush hush (much like the Antivan crows assassin specialization).

The lyrium supposedly makes the abilities "work better"in quotes because I don't really believe it. (Neither does Alistair) frankly It looks like a measure of control. What better way to stop templars from rebelling than making them drug addicts and being their drug pusher?

Yes, but that doesn't work. Merrill, who had the best mage training known to anyone from an outstanding Keeper who warned and loved her over and over and over again still resorted to blood magic and making a deal with a demon despite all the warnings.

Demons tempt, and everyone gets tempted. Even Anders was tempted. The only two people I've seen in the game who have NOT been tempted were Wynne and Morrigan.

The former of whom already is an abomination, and the latter of whom already uses blood magic.

And then there is Marethari who is neither an abomination or a blood mage - the Dalish keeper. That's one person out of every single character in the entire game.

Did everyone really not pay any attention to what Leliana was saying about resolutionists and a whole bunch of mages coming in Kirkwall to incite **** and whatnots?

Hah, just had the meeting with Sister Nightingale the other day again, so yes, the Resolutionists are in my memory banks atm. It did sound to me as if they were the ones who sort of set things in motion in Kirkwall or at least helped pushed them along. I assumed that Anders somehow hooked up with the Resolutionists at some point and/or was partially inspired by them.

I highly doubt it.  They are often blood mages and Anders has a seething hate for blood mages as see in the fact that despite Merrill being so cute and like a kicked dog, he still persists on being angry and mean to her.
He would not work with blood mages.
And he also says, if he's with you... "cause mages on their own couldn't possibly come to the desire for freedom" or something along those lines.

Ah, but she described their activiities, and they all sounded suspiciously like they stuff that Anders was getting involved with (helping mages escape, etc. etc.). Since not all of Resolutionists are blood mages, I was of the opiniton that he was working with the non-blood mages in that particular fraternity.

You do have to make a deal with the demon, but demons are incredibly manipulative. Just look at what happens to everyone in the Fade.

Good lord I hated that part. I felt like I had a bunch of weakwilled companions. At least in Origins Morrigan and Sten had my back. Bah.

And when Fenris was all like "really? I can get power to defeat the Magisters?" My Hawke facepalmed so hard.

Oh god I was so pissed. I figured, "If anyone has my back it's good ol' demon/mage hating Fenris.....Fenris?"

gaaawd. I know. I was running around in circles like a mad woman casting Petrify on him going "OMG YOU FICKIN' HYPOCRITE! I am gonna slaughter you after this SO HAAARD.'

I wish Anders had a post-fade comment towards Fenris, like "LOLZ. YOU GOT PUNK'D!"

Thanks to his AOE he killed all my party with that hit.

My jaw just dropped. Thankfully I was playing a rogue so I just reloaded and backstabbed + twinfanged him. :wizard: Needless to say Hawke was not pleased.

@Ryzaki I don't want to quote a wall of text :P.
But really, I see the Imperium's problem that the mages are from powerful families, filled with the usual desire for power and such. Those people have no qualms enslaving their own. It's an issue with THEM as individuals, as entitled dickwad slavers... who just happen to fight with magic rather than throwing armies and assassins at eachother. *shrug*

I've brought all the companiosn with me into Feynriel's dream to see their dialogue, but honestly I think my mage Hawke wouldn't bring anyone other than herself and Anders.  She'd just look at the rest of them and go..."Yeah...not so much on the whole Fade ritual thing."

I haven't taken Fenris on that part yet. I did get a huge laugh out of Isabella's "I like big boats I cannot lie."  It took me a sec to realize she was attacking me.

It's the issue with humans with power in general. The average person when given power over someone else will abuse that power. It's a sad thing but it's true.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely

It's not true for everyone but for most? Sadly yes.

Well... she does sort of become an abomination at the end, too, so it's basically just Bethany.

I quickly learned to unequip his gear. Seriously, I don't know why people complain about the supposed rival ending for Anders. What's one more hypocrite to add to the fold. Every one of your "friends" betrays you to demons.

We need some sort of middle ground. I would like a Hogwarts for mages. If you're a kid you get sent there for 9 months out of the year, your parents can visit but it's a long drive. Then you can go home for the summer months before being booted back to school. Until you reach a certain age and prove yourself able to fight of demonic possession. (both surprise demon possession and normal demon possession).

Oh my, wait! We have already seen Flemeth's Horcrux...you may have just guessed the end of the mage/templar conflict :°D

First Enchanter Irving also did not become an abomination. He's a bit of an ass though but still. There are mages who don't resort to blood magic and demons, we just don't meet them that often.

Yea, I knew Isabella would betray be in the Fade, because hey, she wanted to walk through dreams. Fenris though I thought would have more control, but even that hot mess was seduced by the very thing mages have to guard themselves against ALL THE TIME. And all I got was "Sorreey, kthanxbai!" I mean a little acknowledge meant in what mages have to go throught would have been fine.

I do gotta say Anders' line about being spirit-possessed to keep him on the straight and narrow, was a great snub to the two who failed, total "Posted Image" right there.

Made me miss my origins crew. They may have been stuck in the Fade and stood there twiddling their thumbs. But at least they didn't fight me!

Not to mention it was possible to get them to see reason! I miss my Warden's silver tongue. :(

I love the snarky response "Should I turn around so you can stab me in the back?" (even funnier is that itgives you friendship points.

LOL. I'm gonna solo that with my 2HD warrior sometime. Shouldn't be too difficult. 2HDs are beasts.

Hawke's gonna use pommel bash and she's gonna die from it?

Sorry ignore my irritation at the fact that somehow a defensive spell killed Voldermort *mumbles irritatibly about Harry becoming massively insane to cast a torture spell but not a killing curse*

Bah. :pinched: The sheer URGH of the 7th book. BAH BAH BAH *rants about character railroading, stupidity, idiots and Voldermort dropping 70 IQ points*

Yeah it does seem a little over the top that becoming exactly like the Imperium is a forgone conclusion. Even considering how powerful mages can potentialy be you have to consider they have a different history, culture, belief system, etc.  It's too simple to just say that it must be one extreme or the other.

I only took Fenris with me once and he was pissed.  Afterall, he had warned me that he did not really want to go there.  It was my stupidity to force him to come with.  I deserved his ire.  But seriously... I found it easy to kill them, even as a rogue.  Probably because I brought Justice with me o.O  He or I would freeze the demon, and then we'd kill whoever turned against us.
Winning team!

I think people like Anders, Wynne and Marethari shouldn't be lumped with the out of control murder rage abominations you meet in combat. I mean yes they're "abominations" in the sense that they're tied to spirits/demons, but in reality they're absolutely different.
