So I have to ask this question, because it seems to go largely ignored:

How do you justify the pro-templar ending with a romanced Anders considering that Hawke becomes Viscount? This bothers me almost as much as Anders killing mages, just because he gets to walk away free (which most of the pro-templar folk seem to thing is a bad thing) AND be partners with the most powerful person in Kirkwall.

It makes no sense for anyone to let that stand. Knight-Captain Cullen is still alive and knows what Anders did, as does Aveline. Never mind the fact that, no matter what path you choose, the Circles always rebel, so Anders still has that hanging over his head. If siding with the templars is done to help minimize casualties, a lot of that goodwill will be undone by the Viscount harboring the man who killed the Grand Cleric.

Like I've said before, part of me hates seeing Anders subjugated the way I feel he is in the rivalmance/templar ending. The rest of me just really hates things happening that would not be feasible under any circumstances in order to accommodate players who just want the most power and the most love, story sense be damned. Origins was pretty awesome in that it was willing to ****** players off and commit to it (Alistair leaving if Loghain is spared, Alistair refusing to marry a non-HN because true love doesn't placate the nobility if true love is an elf, a dwarf or a mage, Morrigan always leaving, but especially if you refuse to give her what she wants). DA2 swings a bit too far in the other direction for my liking.

Oh god I was so pissed. I figured, "If anyone has my back it's good ol' demon/mage hating Fenris.....Fenris?"
*gets koed in one hit*

Thanks to his AOE he killed all my party with that hit.

My jaw just dropped. Thankfully I was playing a rogue so I just reloaded and backstabbed + twinfanged him. :wizard: Needless to say Hawke was not pleased.

I've brought all the companiosn with me into Feynriel's dream to see their dialogue, but honestly I think my mage Hawke wouldn't bring anyone other than herself and Anders.  She'd just look at the rest of them and go..."Yeah...not so much on the whole Fade ritual thing."

I probably should do that, but Isabela and Merrill give me friendship points if I'm being sarcastic/snarky Hawke and then they have to apologize to me.
I bring them every time.  Isabela cause she's HILARIOUS "I like big boats and I cannot lie" and Merrill because it's a wake up call that demons cannot be trusted OMG, girlfriend, you are not impervious!

More von Sparklefingers, please! :)

Ask and ye shall receive. Hansel von Sparklefingers lounges with his brooding rival, Fenris. Oh, and Twix. Can't forget the twix.

AHAHAHA! SO awesome! The Twix just makes it perfect. <3<3<3

I aim to please. Or scar. Either way, really.

Do you even become vicount in the pro templars ending if you spare Anders? Wasn't it suggested in the Templar ending that Anders was facing either execution or the two of you were going to run away afterwards?

Must you become vicount in the pro-templars ending (without Anders)? Because if so that feels like needless railroading.

I usually pick the options that say I want to become vicount (but that's not romancing Anders). So...huh.

I wish the ending wasn't bugged so I could see how much sense it does/doesn't make.

Patch needs to hurry up.

And I wish there was a toolset. :(

That and Meredith's speech about she could not stay her hand b/c the people want vengeance... made me feel just a smidgen LESS dirty during my templar siding playthrough.

I can't help thinking that the only response to the people wanting vengeance is "Hey, Vengeance is standing RIGHT HERE. Say hi."

Samn way I can justify being an apostate while no one cares, or the same way I'm the only smart person in Kirkwall. It just is.

I can't imagine Anders would get any ending other than execution or suicide. I mean, I can see him breaking down and going along with Hawke for the initial conflict, but it's hard to believe he'd be able to stick around after it'd stabilized. Even if Hawke used his/her political power to keep Anders above the law, he'd basically have to be locked up in the house all day as some sort of sex slave to avoid being assassinated the moment he sets foot onto the street. Between the complete isolation and the fact he would have to live with participating and facilitating something completely morally repulsive to him, he'd have to either go nuts or already be completely nuts not to.

If he really does end up that broken, I don't know if you could even call that a romance.

The reason they took away our silver tongue is because the game would have been even more uneventful.

Qunari: "We're not leaving without the book."
Hawke: "Ok Izzy, you 'eard 'em."
Isabella: "You're right Hawke. How could I have been so foolish?"
Hawke: "There you go Arishok. 'Ave a safe voyage."
Qunari: "Thank you."

Anders: "I need you to gather supplies for me. It's for a potion."
Hawke: "Come now Anders. No one likes pork pies. You building a bomb."
Anders: "You're right Hawke. I'm building a bomb. Please help me."
Hawke: "No can do my boy. Let's take a tumble shall we?"
Anders: "Yes Hawke. You're right. Sex is a much better alternative to blowing up a church."

Meredith/Orsino: "I hate mages!/I hate Templars!"
Hawke: "Calm down now chaps. We can talk this out."
Meredith/Orsino: "You're right Hawke. We were too quick to start a war!/Now I won't have to turn into an abomination and betray you!"
Hawke: "Let's go out for a drink!"

That explains why they're looking for the Warden so desperately. They need him/her to tell everyone to chillax.

Ah Warden I miss you and your ability to tell people to see sense. :crying:

I really do.

You who could end centuries worth of bitterness by using simple logic. You who could tell your companions that they were in the Fade and were being held by demons, you who could use a weapon (if not very well) regardless of class. You who could wear heavy platemail while being a BA mage. You who was just epic.

Ah. Warden. How I miss thee. :(

Not the water though. There's lyrium in it. That's the only explaination why every in the city is such a nob head.

I can stop right there and answer very simply; I don't. The idea of breaking Anders to that point... killing him would be kinder. I think it goes against everything in his character for him to do that. If he sides with the Templars, to me that says he is shattered irreparably.

I agree that DAO stood by their stories. I don't know if they tried to cater here, or simply give people a variation of each siding (rivalmace/friendmance & mages/templars) outcome. Since they changed the system to include rivalmancing, it does seem right that there should be a different ending for those. I just don't happen to agree with Anders'.

I can't remember who made that picture of all of them at the Hanged Man playing strip poker... but they all needed more of that.  And lots of drinks.
I betcha Meredith and Orsino would have ended up drunk and making out.

(I bet someone has written THAT fanfic already)

Though Meredith and Orsino have enough rivalry points for a romance.

I wish Anders had a post-fade comment towards Fenris, like "LOLZ. YOU GOT PUNK'D!"

Anders does get pretty smug after the Fade, actually.  If the other 2 companions betray you, he has his line about "nothing like being possessed to keep you on the straight and narrow".  It always makes me smile.  It's not really funny given the circumstances, but I swear I can hear Awakening Anders in there with a big smug grin.  ^__^

Everyone in DA2 needs to get laid, seriously. Those poor mages weren't allowed to have relations. I'd be pretty freaking sad and desperate too.
