FWIW, I agree with Batteries- I'd put him around 24/25 in Awakening.

The only thing we know for sure is that he's older than Alistair. I always pegged him at around 28 in Awakening, so around 30 when Hawke first meets him. He does look older than he did in Awakening, but I put that down to the change in face design than them deliberately trying to adjust his age.
Remember that he had time to escape from the circle "dozens of times" and spend a year in solitary, and that's after being sent there later than his peers.
And, hell, now I have to find sources to make sure I've got the info right. Give me a sec.

He only escaped 7 times, one time being when he was still a boy according to the codex.
EDIT
But the codex does say "dozens"
Either he's lying or that's over exaggerating.

How do we know Anders is older than Alistair? I figured Alistair is in his early twneties in Origins, probably the same age as the warden. I always assumed Anders was in his early twenties in Awakening - like 22 or something, so 23 when he meets Hawke, and around 30 or 31 when he blows up the chantry. We know that Carver and Bethany are 18 years old when the family is fleeing Lothering. Hawke is what, maybe 2 or 3 years older than them?

Someone asked if he was Duncan's son with that random Circle mage he slept with at the beginning of The Calling and David Gaider responded that Anders was too old to be Duncan's child from that encounter.
Which, since that happens well before Maric/Fiona, means Anders is not their baby.Alistair totally is.

How many years apart from Duncan getting frisky and Maric getting it own with Fiona, if you know?
I can totally see him trying to smuggle himself out in a crate and templar armor.Sprinting as fast as he can but being tackled by templars at the docks sounds funny too even if it's also sad.

Okay, let's hear ideas for how Anders escaped. The sillier the better!
* Stealing the clothes of a visiting dignitary, and breezing past the guards, declaring that there's an emergency back home.
* Building a raft that comes apart halfway across the lake, leaving him sitting forlornly on a single log.
* Setting a fire in the First Enchanter's bedroom, and using it as a distraction to steal a rowboat that turns out to not have any oars.
* Seducing the son or daughter of Kester, the ferryman, and convincing them to pick him up from the tower shore.
* Lost in the basements for four days, trying to find rumoured secret passages out.

Speaking of being hunted, the templars should still have his phylactery in back Ferelden. I'm sure it won't take long for word to get aroud of what he did. I'm rather surprised he wasn't found within those years in Kirkwall, actually. I wish he would of made some sort of comment about being away from the circle for so many years in a row, even if he still is hiding.
I suppose being possessed and seeing mages treated like animals kinda puts a damper on that.
Well, I assume in Ferelden after the Blight and the Uldred incident the templars had already enough work and couldn't be bothered to travel to Kirkwall. Even though, now that you mention it, we met Anders just when he was being captured again, with the Blight still going on. But he wasn't being exactly subtle, running a clinic for refugees...he even met Strout (I doubt Alistair or Nate would say his whereabouts to the templars)
To be honest, the Wardens seems to have something big going on (I'm still wondering if these allies Nate mentions are intelligent darkspawn), and in the Ferelden they are worried about Orlais. Kirkwall to me seems a place abandoned to itself, Hellhole left alone, maybe they really don't want to get near that mess.

*Realizes secret passages are a hoax, and spreads romours to templars so that he can laugh at their efforts to find them.
*Disguises himself as Irving, is caught when he accidentally calls Knight-Commander Gregoire "Beardo."
*Just tries to walk out, hoping they'll be so impressed by his boldness that they let him go.
*Pretends to be tranquil and tries to leave with the merchandise shipment to Denerim, is caught when he tells Ser Bran, the door templar, that he's looking handsome as always.

Oh, definitely. He must have been such a torment. Sending them anonymous love notes from each other, enchanting their weapons to go all flamey when they least expected, recommending rashweed as an astringent...
And this is just in the tower. I hate to see what he'd do when he would get caught out and about. I bet it involved just massive amounts of flirting, nothing that could be used against him when he got taken back but definitely something that would annoy his captors.

I'd like to think that one of the times he got captured was because he ended up spending a bit too much time at the Pearl. Some Templar happened to be visiting and walked in on crazy electrical, magic fun times. Awkwardness ensues.

I agree with you. I pegged him at about the same age as Zevran, actually. My Warden (FemSurana) would have been about 24, Alistair 22. And Zev's about 27.
