He never said he wanted mages to rule the world. In fact, he said the very opposite.

He never said he wanted mages to rule the world. In fact, he said the very opposite.
He said he wanted them to have the chance to live a normal life, IIRC. And have children that aren't taken away from them at birth.
I don't agree with his tactic. I can't, however, think of a way to remove compromise as effectively as he did. I don't feel any pity for Elthina. My Hawke warned her repeatedly.
Sebastian can bring his army to avenge her all he wants. My Hawke and Anders won't be there. But make no mistake, what Sebastian wants is vengeance, not justice. Justice would be for him to take the decision out of Hawke's hands and kill Anders himself. Or join the side of the Templars, not run off with his tail between his legs and futilely attempt to gather his army.

She asks Sebastian what the Chantry does...and he says that they do many charitable works for the poor.
And then she's like, "Which would be a part of everyone else in my clan. I don't understand...."
And of course, Seb has nothing to say to that.
Plus, that's a good question. What DOES the Chantry do?

What struck me funny was that when Anders did blow up the chantry, no one was lamenting the fact that there may have been a lot of people in there. Mainly just "GRAND CLERIC ELTHINA NOOO."
Well I thought about the conversation about the orphans two of the sisters had. I mean if there were a group getting food at the time that's ice cold Anders. Ice cold.

That's a good question. You should post that as a separate topic imo.
I for one wish that Inon Zur would have written some music for the Chantry. I want to know what the Chant of Light sounds like! It's the Chantry, so their priests are supposed to be singing all the time, right? But I never hear any...- _ -

Feed orphaned children is one thing they do. They mention it.

This.
Characters talk about attending the Chantry or listening to the Chant. We've also seen lots of Chantry use by ordinary people in DAO. It's very clearly a place of worship for ordinary people, not Elthina's personal hangout nor a closed monastery cloister.
edit:
What about the templars we saw die in the explosion? Were any of them like Ser Thrask? Not all templars are Ser Alrik. Even knight-captain Cullen considers Alrik an extremist. Yes, I know Vengeance/Anders hates templars beyond reason. However, people who aren't possessed by a twisted spirit should have a more nuanced view than "all templars bad die die templars gnarg".

We enter two, and both times it is extraordinary circumstances. Ie, they are homeless or hiding. I doubt it'll be as full in peacetime, but people will frequent.

But it's a place of worship that's open to the public. It's not like people only go there when there are darkspawn.

But it's mentioned that Meredith had already requested the Right from the Divine prior to the whole *boom* goes the Chantry moment....and that Elthina mentions in a conversation that she knows Meredith has requested the Right.
I'm just getting into Act 3, and playing an anti-blood mage mage....and will be doing a ton of saves and talking to Elthina a lot this game to verify that myself or not.
Becuase if that's true....Anders was SO right in what he did.

Of course he wants vengance at that time. His whole world was blown up by that character. He will probably calm down though.

That's more reason to abhor the Chantry then. How can this be considered less pernicious than Anders blowing up the chantry? Genocide is far, far worse than that.
I think the Chantry's influence is convoluting the minds of many other people; including Anders' **** dad. He apparently believed that the Maker cast down a baby boy to him and his wife as punishment for his petty sins. Is it a wonder why Anders is so passionate about defending a group of people who have been subject to this kind of callousness.

He never said he wanted mages to rule the world. In fact, he said the very opposite.
At one point he says he's never met a mage that wanted to rule the world. And I swear ten minutes later, I did a quest where a mage states that mages should, in fact, rule the world. It cracked me up.
The thing about Anders is he gets more and more "I have to rationalize the hell out of all these stupid blood mages," which of course he does, but I think an awful lot of people actually buy into it, which I think is unfortunate. Yes, the way mages get treated, especially in Kirkwall, is crappy, but that doesn't excuse blood magic and demons and turning templars into abominations for the lulz and blowing up public buildings to start a holy war. "The templars are meeeeean" is not going to fly with ordinary people when you pull crap like that. But who cares about them, right?

He just wants them to fight. He doesn't seem to have any contingency plans in plans in place. He was fully expecting to die when he destroyed the chantry, I don't think he had any visions of leading a mage rebellion to dominate Thedas.Herr Uhl wrote...

At any rate, he never seems to indicate that he wants mages to rule, he just wants them to be free. He never talks about any sort of reform or new system, just that he thinks the current one is horrid.

Earlier in the game he saw no excuse for blood magic, and later on he justified it as something brought on by the templars. I was like whoa Anders we need to talk.
