Oh my god.

Did you avoid spoilers before the game?  If so, then yeah, definitely this.  "GODDAMNIT ANDERS" applies pretty strongly here; I think that's all I said out loud during the final battles.  That and "I really hope you're pleased with yourself, you bat-crazy wizard."

I spoiled myself before the game, though, so I already knew about dear Anders dabbling in terrorism.  ::sigh::  Still love him, though.  Other than that (like it's a small thing, lol), the romance wasn't as tragic as I feared.  Varric at least mentioned that Anders stayed with Hawke, which pleases me.

My biggest complaint is that I wanted more from the romance.  They were on the right track with spreading it across all 3 acts, so you didn't bang him in the beginning and then have no more development.  But there was just so little of it!  With lots of tantalizing hints about what was happening beyond what we saw in game (the Codex, the clickables in the Hawke estate, etc.).  I missed the massive amounts of dialogue we had with Alistair and the other Origins LIs.  :(

I really hope Bioware follows up on what happened to Hawke and the Warden.  It's been implied that their disappearances are connected, hasn't it?

And on an unrelated note, we need a Cullen fan thread.  I was surprised by how cool and reasonable he was.  (Plus he's Greg Ellis, so it's vaguely Anders-related.)

This ^

There really needs to be more dialogue both for romance and frienships, especially since they changed the system so you are unable to chat with your companions except in their homes. I'm just beginning act 2 but I don't think I came across any items that triggered conversations outside the home like there was in DAA. For me, it's been the conversations you have with companions that  has set Bioware apart, and it looks like that is being minimized Posted Image

I was seriously surprised by how attractive Cullen suddenly was this time around.  I was like "OH HAY TEMPLAR", lol.  Maybe it was the voice.

And I have been duly spoiled, but it's still hard not to hope for some idyllic, happy ending with Anders.  Maybe we will fly off on a griffon together to a magical land where mages are free and abomination free.     It could happen.

Me too.  I was a video game fan before Origins, but Bioware turned me in an obsessed fangirl.  I remember being utterly blown away by how much I could talk to companions.  I had no idea that some video games let you develop relationships like that.  I was probably halfway through the game before I realized you could actually romance people.  Minimizing the awesome dialogue and companion interactions has really made me sad.

Anders makes me sad, too.  I still absolutely adore him and think he's the woobiest thing ever, but he is so tragic.  What happens to him and Hawke after the game?!  Varric implies that they're together, wherever they are, but Justice is still there and Anders is still borderline insane.  :(

Is anyone else going to have a really hard time romancing Fenris or Sebastian now?  I had a Hawke planned for each of them, but now I'm not sure.  Anders may be crazy now, but he's so earnest and woobie-like.  (Plus Fenris turned on me and I had to kill him... ::grumble::)

Juuust finished the game. I- I have no words. Went in completely unspoilered so I'd have a lovely time doing everything wrong for all the right reasons, and DEAR MAKER. I'll say it again. DEAR. MAKER. Other than that I have no words. Sorta.

Ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.

That about sums up my first playthrough. My Hawke fell for Anders (I had so not been planning to romance him, and YET) and the ending just tore me right up. I'm going to be depressed about it for ages ... but man, I am glad I had no idea that was going to happen.

Yep, pretty much. Watched a video of his recruitment quest and that was it.

Of course I was thinking: "What the hell are you doing?" during that scene... But a big part of me felt almost like it was eerily awe inspiring. Like something that was awful, horrible, it was murder... But it was something that just had to happen. It was that final push that finally made everything shatter.
I always assumed Anders had to of played a bigger role in the game compared to the other companions, and it explains my puzzlement over why Cassandra spat his name out like it was venom closer to the beginning of the game.

Ohh Cullen, I was bawling(I did that a lot. Yep.) already at that time and was flipping out when I thought that I'd might have to kill him for siding with the mages and then when I thought Meredith was going to kill him. I'm glad he was a more major NPC this time around. I do suppose it does explain that "we changed his voice but why we did is a spoiler." statement a bit.

None the less, I wouldn't of guessed that ultimately Anders was the one who began that change Morrigan and Flemeth warned you about. Of course Hawke decides what comes after the fact, but after doing that it was unavoidable that the word was going to change, one way or another.

I actually think that Hawke was the catalyst in the game, kind of like the first domino to fall.  Anders was effected by his/her actions, and because Hawke seemed to help bring the Templar/Chantry issue to a head -- then Anders finished it.  If it hadn't been for Hawke, would Anders have moved forward?  It's hard to say.  All Hawke can do is continue to move foward, and blaze his/her path.

I agree with you it being eerily awe-inspiring.  ;) I guess it's just a matter of perspective.

So, to try and distract myself from sadness...

Are there any good quests for Anders dialogue?  I've heard the Fenris thread mention that Fenris gets jealous dialogue if you bring him to meet Zevran, for example.  I tried that with Anders and flirted desperately, but nothing.

Also, has anyone rivalmanced Anders yet?

He does make a comment about it and Zev says "Ahhhh I see." after he does.

I... Just killed him to see what happened and ... and... :crying:

Fenris turned on me too ;-; I think I had the option to get him to stay (I somehow managed to get him about 50-60% down the friendship path even with all my PRO-MAGE dealings) but I just couldn't make myself select the dialogue options to try and get him to stay. By that point I think my Hawke had gone a little loopy herself, though.

I still really do want to do a romance-Fenris BFF-Anders playthrough, though, so that Hawke can have a little more perspective (my mage Hawke went the route of blind-trust/love-will-get-us-through-anything-everyone-else-be-damned and I feel like she made her choices for the wrong reasons. I love that. XD)

As for a Sebastian romance though... The conditions under which you complete his romance just-- it might be too much for my poor heartstrings. I might if I ever do a pro-templar playthrough, which is not as unfathomable as I thought, because I actually became quite fond of Meredith. I don't agree with her methods(and, you know, the minor detail where she becomes bat-**** insane), but Andraste's bloody knickers I was tearing my hair out by the end of the game unable to understand why every time I turned around almost every mage and their mother went to blood magic (and my rage at Orsino just--- augh. That completely caught me off guard, and for what?)

ANYWAY TL;DR: Yes, I'll probably still try to romance Fenris and Sebastian. 8|

D:  Why didn't I get that?!  What dialogue options did you choose exactly?  I practically threw myself at Zevran without a peep from Anders.

That's how my rogue Hawke is.  I really like her; I think I'll be replaying her and declaring her my canon.  She has a smart mouth and a terribly corny sense of humor; she's selfish but also kind.  Worldly in a lot of ways, but pretty naive about some things.  She's fiercely loyal to her family, which is where her pro-mage views came from.  She will do nothing that may hurt Bethany, not ever, especially after losing everyone else. Anders became her family too and she loves him.  Her love for them 100% shaped her decisions, not any kind of strong innate opinions about mages.

I just started a mage Hawke.  I think she'll friend-path romance Anders as well, but she wants to bring the templars down for her own reasons, obviously.  She's a lot more willing to get her hands dirty than my rogue Hawke.

I got it after you help him kill those assassins that are after him on that beach.

I swore at my TV when Anders blew up the Chantry. I had a feeling something was up. Reading his codex, hi change in behavior, his different outfit. I sense something would happen and I could not believe what he did. He became the very thing he didn't want to become and triggered the war.

I won't say what I did, the fangirls might beat me up D:

I won't beat you up.  XD (You'd almost certainly be able to take me down, anyway.)  I'm as big of an Anders fangirl as they come, but if he existed in real life?  I couldn't condone that.  Thankfully he's a video game character and I can squee without guilt over a guy who blew up a church.

I still really love Anders, and it breaks my heart to see how his mental state deteriorates.

@Mr. House -- Doesn't everyone's outfit change?  :blink:

@leggywillow -- I know, right?  We don't live in a world where people born with powers against their will are thrown into prisons, all rights stripped from them without any pardon or parole.  And really, I think out of all the characters, Hawke should have been the insane one.  So much happening at once...

So when DOES Anders start hanging out at the house? Bodahn mentioned him being there but he's not. Isabela better not have stolen him...

But quite honestly, he *did* become what he wanted to be...a martyr for the cause.  Whether Hawke shivs him and/or supports the mages or not, the war has begun, and he was the catalyst.  He knew this was coming, and he warns Hawke.

Even when I support the templars next time around, I'm going to have a very hard time with killing him.  If there's any way around it, I'll try to take it.

Eventually he does.  I can't pinpoint it exactly, but he shows up, don't worry.  XD  Although Isabela may have already had her fun with him... ::grumble::

And that kiss is so sexy.  I love it.

Thanks! and yeah it is, I thought he was going to throw my Hawkette against a wall right then and there in front of his patients. :o

I'm not liking that we can't repeat (or so I understand), or kiss him whenever. Bad call bioware.

I am not liking that we never get to see Anders out of his clothes.  Yes, his outfit IS awesome, but after seeing how sexy the new male body model looked, I was really bummed not to see Anders shirtless.  :crying:

I wanted to murder that son of a mabari-**** when he went all al-quaeda on the chantry. Too bad with the lack of characters to choose from, i had to have him on the team as a healer.

I kept Anders (and became fugitives with him) simply because I was in a romance with him, from a RP perspective I just felt that if we are running together, I could maybe calm him down, stop any more terrorist acts, but still help the mages.

If I wasn't romancing him, I would have executed him.

I wouldn't beat you up. I stared at my screen a long time trying to decide if I would do just that. It's funny, going into the end I figured he would do SOMETHING bad, and was like "But whatever, I'll forgive him, it's fine." But then what he ACTUALLY did ... That was a lot more terrible than I expected, and I had a lot harder time not stabbing him for it than I would have thought.

It was awful, and it was great.

This sounds  like it may work out to be interesting. My F!Hawke is romancing Anders on what is my Amell import (Alistair's Chancellor girlfriend)....muahahaha
