Until they knock that off, until they show they themselves have little tolerance for people who do that, no one is ever going to believe them when they insist they're just being oppressed and would totally do nothing but conjure cute kittens for orphans if left to their own devices.
The worst part is that it also happens with people like Meredith's sister and Connor...well-meaning mages who are untrained and vulnerable.
Mages
do need training, and there will probably always be a need for templars to hunt down those that succumb to demonic possession. The hideous thing about the Circle is that it's so repressive, it leads mages to run from (and their families to shelter them from) the only place that most of them can learn to master their gifts.
I agree with the poster umpteen-pages-back who said that the Circle towers ought to be remade into a boarding school like Hogwarts. A place you can graduate from, eventually, and still get to go back and see your family on a regular basis. This is another reason I'm a little leery of Anders' "no compromise" tack--I do think there is still a role for the Circle, and for templars, in a reformed world.
But so long as the Chantry is taking babies away from their mamas, no, mofos, it's still on.
It's kind of hilarious because I started
this thread back before DA2 ever came out. Man did I get my wish
big time.
