He was the scariest blood mage. I was flippin' out over that man.

He was certainly the creepiest blood mage, that's for sure.  Seriously.  He skeezed me out big time.  The dude offered to give Lady Hawke a tongue bath.  ::shudders::

Where does he say that?
I just got a line about his stout lance, then I told him I was carting him off to the templars...but we made a deal. He got one night of pleasure with a waitress (or whatever) then off to the Gallows with him. In my pro-templar playthrough.

You should do that just to screw his parents over.

Mages ruling won't necessarily be the outcome. It'll be different from Tevinter; the magisters rebelled specifically because they wanted to be put back into power, and all the mages of southern Thedas are going to want are freedom and the chance to live. By forcing people who weren't previously wrapped up in the idea of revolution in the first place, the revolution may have a much more moderate outcome than it might otherwise.

But that depends on whoever ends up organizing and leading the revolution that was seeded in Kirkwall. If it's Anders, or someone going by his manifesto and using him as a martyr, freedom may by the perogative. If someone takes charge who does want to bring back the way of the Imperium, it could end differently.

The Tevinter mages didn't turn against the chantry, they changed it. That is a huge difference. The population followed along and fought with them when the other chantry led lands started exhalted marches. The country rebelled, not the mages.

What manifesto? The one that led him to start a war on behalf of all mages with no clear goal other than a vague sense of that freedom was needed? Meh, we'll see what happens with that in the next game probably.

That would certainly be a point against the revolution ending in mages ruling. Eventually there will have to be peace, and when the leaders are establishing the ground rules for whatever the new society will look like, the opposing parties will be much less likely to acquiesce to mage rule when you have years of bloody conflict leading up to it instead of a gradual change from within. There could be compromise again when the mages have fought their way into a position where they can realistically bargain.

Given we're never shown any of the contents of his manifesto, we aren't given anything for us to examine to nail down exactly what his political views are. The existence of a manifesto suggests his thoughts are considerably more extensive and organized than what we're shown in the game.

I like how you can ask Isabela if she'll go with him before you cart him back to the templars. But she won't. Girl has standards. Image IPB

Where does he say that?

If you pick the first aggressive dialogue, Hawke says something like "Ew, I need a bath" after he delivers his corny pick-up line.  Then he says "I could give you a bath... with my tongue."  (And then Merrill will chime in about how his tongue isn't nearly rough enough for that... I guess she was innocently thinking about how cats bathe, but it really upped the scary kinky factor for me.)  I really wanted an option to run screaming out of the bar.

I went Force Mage/Spirit Healer.

TBH I didn't really love any of the Mage specs this time around. Bring back Keeper/quality Blood Magic/non-hindering Spirit Healing.

I adore force spec, but I threw my other point in spirit healing only because it bothered me to see that point lying there unused. I was the damager, Anders was the support mage. Worked well, though I couldn't resist giving him fireball and chain lightning. Just because.

I am incapable of denying Anders the fireball spell. He clearly wants to know it so bad.

I didn't give my Anders any fire magic during my first playthrough, only vengeance, restoration, a bit of arcane and ice spells. And yet he was always going on about sucking on his fireball.

Maybe it had something to do with that Hawke being in a romance with him

You guys are bad people, and Anders is a bad influence.

I bought the Seb DLC today, and I can't have him in my party without staring at his bloody Andrastae crotch and going 'I CAN COUNT TO POTATO' and then laughing like a lunatic.

Oh, the looks I get from my boyfriend /D

Until they knock that off, until they show they themselves have little tolerance for people who do that, no one is ever going to believe them when they insist they're just being oppressed and would totally do nothing but conjure cute kittens for orphans if left to their own devices.

The worst part is that it also happens with people like Meredith's sister and Connor...well-meaning mages who are untrained and vulnerable.

Mages do need training, and there will probably always be a need for templars to hunt down those that succumb to demonic possession. The hideous thing about the Circle is that it's so repressive, it leads mages to run from (and their families to shelter them from) the only place that most of them can learn to master their gifts.

I agree with the poster umpteen-pages-back who said that the Circle towers ought to be remade into a boarding school like Hogwarts. A place you can graduate from, eventually, and still get to go back and see your family on a regular basis. This is another reason I'm a little leery of Anders' "no compromise" tack--I do think there is still a role for the Circle, and for templars, in a reformed world.

But so long as the Chantry is taking babies away from their mamas, no, mofos, it's still on.

It's kind of hilarious because I started this thread back before DA2 ever came out. Man did I get my wish big time.

Well, Andraste's face RIGHT THERE is kinda distracting.  It's another reason why I have a hard time bringing Seb around.  It's like having a 5th party member... always staring, watching, with her creepy eyes.  It's like Seb's penis is judging my every action.

I was surprised by the difference between the two threads. Is Fenris that much more popular? Or did the Anders thread get a restart or something?

So years of bloody struggle will make mages more respected (than they are now)? I don't see how that goes together. If anything, Tevinter proves that the system can be changed from within. Isn't that preferrable to open warfare? Or do you presuppose that mages will strive for Tevinter given the chance?

And this whole line of thought presupposes that they fight eachother to a standstill and then sign a peace. If the mages are victorious, and are too corrupt to be let change the system without warfare, wouldn't they create Tevinter? And if the templars win, won't they take it back to the old ways at best?
