Scaling Parthalan here, which I just saw has a lightning damage version too :D My mage doesn't use fire spells so having an electricity version makes me stupidly happy lol.

OOO!  Shiny!  Thanks so much!

My mage is a lightning mage--the cold fire and all that.  Doesn't help that I based large parts of her later personality off of Princess Azula :P

Pretty sure it's meant to happen, what with Templars nullifying magic. And Meredith is the Templar to end all Templars. I'm surprised she doesn't open the fight by yanking their staves out of their hands, breaking them over her knee, and then kicking them in the nads for a 30 second stun.

Aand...that's why you play a blood mage.  Suck on that, Meredith!  It's also hilarious if you give one of your party members the ring that makes them immune to stun--they just wail on her during her "I'ma stun you all" villain speech.

But I want more Anders!  Gah, this is just embarrassing.  For all its many problems, I just can't seem to put DA2 down.  It's weird, because I've generally reached the consensus that Origins was a better game overall, but I certainly didn't play Origins six times in a row with barely a breath between playthroughs.  It can't just be because I'm a fangirl... can it?  Surely not.  That is just too sad.

DA2 has the advantage of not being exhausting in length, in terms of both playthrough time and individual quest time.

Each quest is the perfect size IMO. And its easy enough to jump around. Unlike Origins where even if you weren't, it felt like you were trapped in the Deep Roads for example.

Speaking of Deep Roads/Orzammar, I absolutely do not miss having to trek across a few areas to get to a place where I can jump to a new location on the world map.

I plan to.  Spare Grace, snuggle Anders, get betrayed by Grace, rescue Anders from Grace, then see if he tries to somehow justify Grace's actions.  "The templars totally made her do it, I swear!  Oooooh, I hate them sooooo much!  What, you don't think so?  Distracting ninja kiss!"  Is that anything like what actually happens in that situation?

He didn't try to justify it at all. He did say that they'd managed to kidnap him because he hadn't expected mages to come after him, though.

You're better off letting someone else get kidnapped and take Anders with you to rescue them.
He tells Grace something like "How could you do this after we helped you escape".  It's awesome.
It's like a bulb goes up in his head "Hey, not everyone is worth saving.  Not everyone can be saved, some people are just angry monsters".

Seriously. How long do we have to wait for some meaty DLC? I mean, the game's been out for almost a month, right? They are planning on giving us more content every thirty days, right? :?

Ah, well, just think the kind of evil bat**** crazy Hawke would have to be in that circumstance to even do this.
*shrug* I just know those two HATE eachother so any sort of pain they can inflict, they goes for it.  I don't think Fenris sees much wrong with making mages tranquil either, and that's torture too.
It's only +5 though, so it's not like Anders is ENTHUSIASTIC about it.  Just a little high-fiving douchebag Hawke.
Now if he gave something like +20, you'd know he was REALLY happy about it.  Too happy even :P.

He gave me +15 for "breaking it off" with him in my Fenris PT, because I am a total goob and didn't want to take the rivalry hit in Act 1.

As much as I hate Grace, I do feel bad for the Starkhaven mages. I clicked on Alain in Act 2 and he said something about the Templars just choosing 3 of them at random to make Tranquil. Then Grace says she wishes she would have died fighting instead of ending up in the Gallows.

I think it's worth it for his comment that they knew not to send templars after him, but it all depends on what you want out of a certain scene. I liked getting a sign that even people who might otherwise work with Anders realize that you need to be pretty careful about triggering a Vengeance fit.

Excellent point.  What I should have said more clearly is I, the player, want to punch Anders out, not that Hawk wants to punch him out.  I've never had a Hawk who sold Fenris.  My evil selfish Hawk might have, if she weren't using him as "thing on the side, when Anders is busy".  Bad Hawk got sick satisfaction out of getting what she wanted from someone of Fenris' background and worldview.  Yes, I feel unclean.

---------------------------------------

Thanks so much for the link to the romance flag fix too.  Since that aspect of the story was very enjoyable and "imporant" to me, I want proper references to it in DA2.  I loved King Alistair's visit, where he tells Teagan "She has a name, you know".  I still wub DAO Alistair, even though he broke the hearts of many a femWarden when she wasn't a human noble and didn't want to pimp him to Morrigan (UGH!) for some demony blood magic ritual.  Good thing my Sallah Amell was a blood mage who was BFF with Morrigan!  She got a very happy ending with Alistair, though I'm sure some demon will eat her later.

How do people get themselves into these situations?
I've written this a million times by now :P I swear.

If you are nice to Anders, he will flirt with you and then you flirt with him unless you go for the heartbreak icon.  Fine, go on with the top-right choice until the end of the conversation, don't say he's making you uneasy.  Then in the second convo, again, be nice, always top-right choice until he says that the two of you are a bad idea.  Then you agree with him (heartbreak icon).  Then he NEVER kisses you, you never have to break up with him... you just get +35 friendship from those two conversations and he is actually super cool about you saying you two are a bad idea.
Alternatively, be joke/sarcastic Hawke first convo and never have any issues with breaking off and hearbreak icons or rivalry points.

I'm pretty sure it was him. I usually only click on him because clicking on Grace just annoys me (so don't need her b****ing at me for not saving her well enough or whatever). At any rate, I'm certain one of them mentions it. It made me furious.

Oh I know, I was just surprised he gave friendship for it. I didn't really either expect rivalry or friendship points, since it was "If you tie yourself to me" conversation.  I said I was a goob:D. LOL, Sorry for exasperating you my dear.

Grace et al manage to get themselves to the circle no matter what you do. And then she blamed the champion either way.
It's like the Arishok business. Even if you give Isa to him, she escapes with the damn book all over again.
BIOWARE is totally like an angry dungeon master yelling "You're ruining my story, here, another wave of enemies attack you, YOU BASTARD"

LMAO.

Wow.  As though I needed more reasons to despise the templars.  I am finding it harder and harder to blame Anders for going all Vengeance on their sorry metal behinds.

Yeah but I think my canon is going to be turning them in anyway since they all get caught in the end and Grace is actually LESS hateful if you turn her in than if you let her escape. Well...possibly. That isn't the single quest that determines whether people know you as a mage or templar lover in Act 2, is it?

I don't think Fenris sees much wrong with making mages tranquil either, and that's torture too.

I'll agree that making someone Tranquil is a horrible, horrible thing to do and it would be kinder to simply kill them and also that Fenris outright states something or other about approving of mages being made Tranquil (or not disapproving at any rate). Still, I don't think that fits the bill for torture.

any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him, or a third person, information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity. It does not include pain or suffering arising only from, inherent in, or incidental to, lawful sanctions.

There is no pain or suffering involved in being Tranquil. Maybe the process of being made Tranquil hurts but aside from that...horrorifying fates are not always torture.

Sparrow Hawke would have brought him Meredith's head personally if he all but asked. She's protective of her mages like that.

Yeah, lightning spells are the first ones I pick up. They make me happy. My play style basically amounts to "which spells have the coolest effects?" So I end up with pretty much all damaging spells. At least this time I have a healer/support mage I actually like so I don't have to pick up the slack there.

LOLz.  You didn't exasperate me, it amused me.  The men whining about Anders throwing himself at them and poor souls cannot take the rivalry *boohoo*... they exasparate me!

Anders knows he's bad news.  If you're gentle with him, he takes rejection well.  I think that's pretty cool of him.
Of course, if you reject him after he kissed you and he trotted his way across town to Hightown for sexy times... he's going to be angry.  Duh.
Especially AFTER you sex him up.  The man gives it up to you after 3 years of Hawke torturing him with flirtation and sexyness... and then when he says "I love you", dumps him?  The man is not pleased, LOLz.

You are correct, my apologies for using the word incorrectly.
Let's just say at least Anders sees being tranquil as WORSE than death.  So in Anders case, tranquil is about as bad as Fenris going back to being a slave to a magister.  So... well, what I'm trying to say is...

Those two boys can't have anything nice!

That's probably it, to be honest.  I'm a fan of having lots of shorter quests.  That's probably the same reason why I've played ME2 more than ME1, even though I prefer ME1's story and the flow of their romances.
