Hehehe. Awesome to read about everyone's desires for Vengeance/Justice, etc.
I, and as a result my Hawkettes - particularly Lorelei, the main canon, totally fell for the Anders/Vengeance blend.
The only one with issues with the whole blend was my rogue who was all for the middle road and moderation (eep), so she admired Anders' great works and dedication but she couldn't embrace the extremes.
Me, as a person, totally love the combination of Anders and Justice/Vengeance. I think Justice would have totally been curious about this love thing, but I think Vengeance is far too single minded about the mission. My mage doesn't mind, she's pretty gung ho as well, but unlike Vengeance, she's only fleshy bits so she has emotions and urges... and this new Anders is totally her match and her style of crazy. Passionate, sometimes irrational, and Maker help you if you ****** them off or hurt their loved ones.
I can't possibly see my canon mage able to love Anders "except for this Vengeance dude"... it's all one package for her.
Hence the friendship. Hence the support. Hence the understanding.
And my mages just love it when a man gets all GRR and ARGG and protective. Other people hate that about Anders and Fenris, I love it!

You raise some good points.  DA:II Anders is so much hotter than Awakening Anders because of that passion and determination.  My main Hawke loves that he has a calling and a purpose.  She has always just focused on protecting her own family and (especially as her family slowly dies off) is grateful to become part of something bigger.  He may be scary intense at times, but she loves every moment of it.  She is actually most upset with him for making up the whole potion lie in Act 3.  It should be clear by then that she is commited to the cause.

:) Yeah, the mages are all sorts of miffed he made up that stuff, but totally understand why.
It's on his hands.  And only his hands.  Hawke didn't have to make the hard choice, he did it for her.

Besidesssssssss... if Bioware left it up to the player, we'd mess up their pretty story :P

Off topic, but I couldn't have timed it better for a screen shot.  Varric is a pimp

Aww. It's like she's sitting on the Thedan equivalent of Santa's knee.

Varric: So Daisy what do you want for Christmas?
Merrill: Fenris to frolic with me in the field
Varric: Sweetie not even Santa Varric can pull that one off.

:D LOL :D  I love it!  I can totally hear them saying that.

I know.  Bioware gives us the illusion of control, but eventually we see the walls of our cell.

However, since a player can say "no" and not help Anders at all, I wanted something more extreme on the pro-Anders side.  I really wanted an option to say "I'll help you gather your ingredients for whatever you are actually doing, but do not ever lie to me again."  Luckily there is an option to call him out on his lie when he is asking for Hawke to distract the Grand Cleric.  By that point, he has the decency to just honestly say that he can't tell Hawke what he's doing.  Apparently, I like withholding information far more than lies.  It hints at just a wee bit more trust from Anders.

I don't mind lack of control for narrative reasons.

It's like, it's like kinky sex. Yes, you could have freedom, but imagine how good it'll go if you just let 'em tie your hands. They might even pull out the sparkle fingers.

Bioware just doesn't give us safewords, though.

Okay, I'm convinced that the rival romance scene was supposed to go differently.  For one thing, he mentions the "aching for you for 3 years" thing twice: during the kiss scene and later during the romance scene.  I can't help but think that he was only supposed to bring it up once (kiss scene for rivals, romance scene for friends).

Has anyone found anything to indicate a different rival scene in the magical "talk tables" (or wherever they've been finding lost dialogue, I don't know).

Oh dear. I am suitably impressed by how you managed to turn the topic into something so dirty. Ninja corrupter.

LOL magical talk tables.  Sadly no I haven't myself.  The romances themselves need a patch all to themselves.

Ahmmm, my blood mage (sadly, not romancing) was all sorts of AGGRESSIVE GRRR to all but Anders, but then they started giving me options to say templars shall DIE DIE DIE... and I took them and Anders said he won't disappoint! o.O
I totally took that to be Hawke telling Anders "I am with you 110%. And it better involve dead templars, that's all I'm saying". I guess that's about as involved as one can get, eh?

I love the feeling that things are spiraling out of control, that our Hawke can sometimes be powerless and is just being swept along. Our characters don't always have the last word, there are no brakes to stomp on, there's no way out. The loss of control really adds to the intensity of the last Act. It might make us rage at Elthina, Anders, Meredith or Orsino, but that they don't listen or we are unable to change things makes it all a little more stomach churning and realistic.

Oh my.  So Bioware is a really cocky Dom.  That makes them still a little douchey.

Oh, you know Anders pulls out all sorts of "surprises".  I am never going to argue against hands tied and kinky sex, nuh huh.  But sometimes, when I want to kill some NPC, I grumble.
But then Bioware makes it soooooo good, I put up with the small moments of "WTF are you doing to me?!?! *terrified face*.

My Hawke doesn't know who to rage at.
Orsino for causing some conflict over searching the tower.
Meredith for being a ****ing psychopath.
Anders for obvious reasons.
Himself for not realizing what Anders was up to before helping him scrape crystals off of a pile of poo.

So he just stands there going, "ARGHHHHH" at nobody in particular.
Meanwhile, Varric is like, "Well. I'm glad everyone around me are psychopaths."

Purposeof-Flight I just noticed your sig. I would have to agree. That Anders scared the crap out of me, and I just hate the rest. I don't mind the default Anders. The Isabela thing is just dumb as hell.

I just don't understand why anyone would want to change the companions. They're all great to me. And Isabela comes from RIVAINI. THEY ARE DARK SKINNED.
I'm horrified at the fact that someone actually made a white Isabela mod. Blech.

That's why I like it, to tell the truth. Nothing quite says "this story is big, and it's bigger than you" than elements that are out of your control.

It is like the jihad that Paul Muad'dib tries to avoid the whole time. It is inevitable. It is the thing that cannot be run from. And both stories have had that feeling to them. I like the idea that these people are heros, but heros are also those who cannot escape what they are in.
